Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz says if rival Donald Trump won't face the entire GOP field in Thursday's Fox News debate, then he wants to go one-on-one.
"If Donald is afraid of Megyn Kelly, I would like to invite him on your show to participate in a one-on-one debate between me and Donald, mano y mano," Cruz said during an interview on "The Mark Levin Show," adding that Trump could choose the moderator.
"And the fact that Donald is now afraid to appear on the debate stage, that he doesn't want his record questioned, I think that reflects a lack of respect for the men and women of Iowa, that he's unwilling to go to Des Moines and be questioned."
Cruz also argued that Trump dropping out of the debate shows that the front-runner isn't qualified to be president.
"This is a job interview, you need to be willing to answer the questions of the American people, and if Donald is afraid to defend his record, that speaks volumes," he said.
"And if he thinks Megyn Kelly is so scary, what exactly does he think he'd do with Vladimir Putin? I promise you Putin is a lot scarier than Megyn Kelly."
Cruz added that Trump needs to explain to voters "how he is prepared to be commander-in-chief if he's terrified of a television host."
The comments came shortly after the Trump campaign announced Tuesday that he would not participate in the Fox News debate on Thursday.
In a press conference on Tuesday, Trump referred to Kelly as "lightweight" and said that she's "not a reporter."
After every debate during presidential cycles, Republicans and conservatives come on FR and say, rightfully, "WHY does the Republican leadership allow our candidates to participate in these debates moderated by liberals and haters whose questions are totally designed in prejudice and bias to GET the Republican? Why do we do it every year? The Republicans need to refuse to do it with these main stream media/Government controlled media asking the questions with their extreme leftist/Democrat party bias."
EVERY debate season preceding every presidential election. Why doesn't the GOP chairman stop this, why AGREE to it, why not DEMAND to be treated fairly? Why do we need "moderators" asking questions anyway?
NOW we finally have a candidate with the cajones, the only one in this bunch, only one in living memory, to refuse to participate unless the debate host network removes the HIGHLY PARTISAN, unqualified, proven Trump hater, transparently seeking to curry favor with her left wing friends and colleagues.
And NOW the Cruzers on FR who weren't even around for all these previous debates in history, knew or cared nothing about politics or were simply Democrats---NOW these people, to support their Establishment candidate, call Trump a COWARD, he's too afraid to face Megyn Kelly. Even Ted Goldman Sachs Cruz is saying it. That's pitiful, because THIS is EXACTLY what conservatives and republicans have wanted for years and years: to NOT let the host network get away with using moderators who are leftists intent upon embarrassing and trying to ruin our candidates, in this case Trump.
So Trump is THE one to set the precedent, to DO what everyone before just TALKED about, and the idiots who should be over on Commitment2Establishment so childishly say, Trump is afraid of Megyn Kelly! LOL!!!!!!!!!!
PS---Trump kicked ass in SIX DEBATES and no one laid a glove on him, and now the losers want another shot at the heavy weight champion. But they aren't in his class. So no rematch.
Do it Donald it would be Yuge, Ted is desperate!
When some one asks a question like “what has Trump achieved except condemned a lot of property”, it clearly shows,
1. They have never run a major construction business in NY
2. They have never enjoyed staying at any of the golf resorts built by Trump
3. They can not afford to buy a condo in a Trump building
4. They do not understand the magnitude of growing money inherited by Trump to a net worth 600 times bigger.
+1
Did you or did you not cheer when Cruz took to the floor to oppose obamacare and led the fight that resulted in the government shutdown?
Great post gg188! Didn’t Rand Paul skip last debate, and nobody said boo! Just goes to show how important Trump is to this cycle.
Yo Trump: Run the clock out on cruz.
Without Trump, what we will have is TWO KIDDIE table debates, with kiddie like ratings, and nothing more.
More people will watch Trump raising money for wounded vets than watch the TWO KIDDIE debates.
Yep and Kelly doesn’t know her ### from a hole in the ground. Complete idiot.
Is there a smart news gal on the air- anywhere? Radio or TV.
Is there a smart man casting news, anywhere?
I would love to watch or listen to a Cruz/Trump one on one debate. Cruz would mop the floor with Trump.
So what, we’re picking the best man for President, not the Chief Justice.
Funny, Trump fans considers this an act of desperation on the part of Cruz...
Yes they do. As I said before, on a one on one, Cruz would mop the floor with Trump.
Nice.
all 5.7” of him lol...he small talks...
Mark Levin should stay totally out of this. Otherwise the debate sounds like a good idea.
Not sure what it would prove though since its likely Cruz would win in this format being that he is a lawyer and noted orator.
Trumps style is different and he is not a lawyer. But i don’t think that should put him at a disadvantage for being president. As long as he has good sense and leadership qualities he should be a viable candidate.
Just some random thoughts. .
Yeah.. I agree with you.
Mr. Cruz get your own show and see if you can draw an audience of any consequence.
The tell-tale sign of Cruz NOT being a strong contender is that there are 99 other Senators in the Senate and NOT one of those fellow Senators have endorsed Cruz. WHY???
Please spare us all. How many cases have you or the Donald argued before the Supreme Court — all before the age of 45? I believe that Cruz has prepared 80 SC briefs and has argued 30 cases before the Court, including winning the critical Heller Second Amendment case. He also clerked for Chief Justice Rehnquist.
So what do we get with Mr. Trump — a man who has been a Democrat much of his life, who has given large amounts of money to Democrats, has supported infanticide or partial birth abortion for much of his life — and you want to denigrate Cruz. It’s all a bit much.
It has to do with the fact the Rupert Murdoch turned the Fox Network over to his two sons back in July 2015.
His two sons are very strong LIBERALS and their ideas are a reflection of what Fox is becoming.
It won't be too much longer and I believe you'll see Roger Ailes either resigning or being thrown under the bus.
