After Trump Drops Out of Debate, Cruz Challenges Him to a ‘Mano a Mano‘

As news spread of Donald Trump's intention to boycott the Republican debate this Thursday, Ted Cruz's national press secretary tweeted out that the Texas senator wished to challenge the GOP frontrunner to a "mano a mano."

Cruz made the remarks to Mark Levin on his radio show Tuesday night. "If Donald is afraid of Megyn Kelly," Cruz said, "I would like to invite him... to participate in a one-on-one debate, between me and Donald, mano a mano."

Cruz made the remarks to Mark Levin on his radio show Tuesday night. "If Donald is afraid of Megyn Kelly," Cruz said, "I would like to invite him... to participate in a one-on-one debate, between me and Donald, mano a mano."

Cruz floated Sean Hannity and Rush Limbaugh as possible moderators -- but he also said he'd be willing to take him on with no moderator at all, should Trump prove to be afraid of all those people too.

He pondered how Trump could be commander-in-chief if he was "terrified of a TV host."

It amazes me how none of my fellow FReepers get why Trump did this. His intention is to de-legitimize FoxNews, and take power away from Roger Ailes and Rupert Murdoch. This is about the candidate controlling the message...becoming the pure message, unfiltered. the power of this move will become more apparent in time, and it will change everything.

Agree, both Cruz and Trump should skip debate.

What are you basing that 70% figure on?

I think it's Trump's unfavorables, though 70 seems a little high.

Looking for latest but have been in the upper 50's low sixties

“All those nasty, lying things I said about you last week...that was just humor.....everyone knew that.”

Laugh if you want. You really sure it’s impossible for DT to walk out with Cruz, both of them smiling and DT saying “I need to let you know about a little deal I just made with Ted Cruz here”.

He could do it and have fun doing it. This is going to be a very entertaining election.

Agreed. I don’t trust Cruz any farther than I could throw him, but if this situation was reversed and they sent out that press release about Cruz, I’d support it if he did what Trump is doing.

Of course, Cruz wouldn’t do that, because he’s a pathetic wuss, which is one of the reasons why I don’t trust or support him in the first place. But IF he did, I would support it.

That won’t win this election ... Cruz had his chance and blew it ... bringing Trump’s mom into the debate sealed Cruz’s fate ...Trump is old school , you don’t pull crap like that on someone like Trump .. I cringed when Ted did it

I think I know how some of the Obama folks felt when we wouldn’t let his true mystery birth die.

Cruz is enough of an American for me. He has my vote.

The more I hear the crap from Trump’s supporters attacking Cruz, the more I think I will just stay home next fall. He should have enough support to win without me.

I can’t argue with the fact that Trump is a fighter, but Ted Cruz is one of the very few in Congress and the only one in the Senate who has actually been in the trenches fighting McConnell, Boehner (now Ryan) and Obama.

"they will have an open lectern"

It's against RNC rules to have an open lectern.

Besides, the total joke is the guy who got pantsed in the main hall of high school and didn't get laid until he was 27.

How could a beta's beta think he could ever be POTUS?

“Cruz doesn’t seem like a likeable guy to me and lots of other people.”

Believe me, there are lots of people who don’t think Trump is likeable either.

Cruz is conservative, that means lots of people aren’t going to like him. I haven’t seen anything objectionable. Maybe he would go home to his family, rather than stay for some beers. Skin-crawling stuff like that.

Trump is not PC, so some people don’t like him, and many love him. He’s found a winning formula. I don’t know how long it will last.

I wish people would realize mano a mano means hand to hand. People think it means man to man. Maybe even the Hispanic Cruz thinks that’s what it means.

No one believes Trump is afraid of anything, not even Cruz. It is spin.

That’s a prediction of course. I thought Cruz would win Iowa anyway but if Trump really doesn’t show up, he has no chance. Iowans and New Hampshireites take their choice seriously and expect the candidates to show up and communicate with them. Trump blowing off the Iowa debate will be a disaster for him.
