Houston is incredibly liberal, no doubt. I think Cruz would equally make a point against those values as well.

It sure is. All states have their good or bad points. Don’t condemn the whole state for the actions of a few. When I read about that earlier, I realized just how true that belief is.

but doubling down on insulting one of the largest states?

Most of the ad is actually featuring Trump not identifying with Iowa, and later suggesting that Iowans are stupid. He mentions Iowa in the ad much more than he mentions New York. As the New York primary is not until April 19, and the early primaries in general (except maybe New Hampshire) look a lot more like Iowa than New York.

Trump might have been better offer being less specific, saying Midwest, or rural America, or picking a less important state (primary wise) like South Dakota. He chose Iowa, and he'll have to live with it.

With all the energy jobs, I would have thought Houston would not be so liberal.

I think the mayor of Houston tried to make pastors turn over their sermons for approval, if that gives you any idea the sort of people in charge there.

Forgot about that.

I recall either Abbott or Cruz (or both) making an issue about that.

Sheesh..is that city that far gone?

That works in Houston, Austin, and the metro areas but think for a minute; what kind of values elected Como vs the values that elected Abbot. The last time a Democrat won a statewide office in Texas was 1994. Not one state office In 22 years. How has NY done over the last 20+ years? You think Texas values are the same as NY?

If Cruz is trying to make a point of liberal New York values, he may want to take a look at Houston with the lesbian mayor and Austin which is liberal la-la land.

It is a bit confusing because some take Trump to mean "New York State" values, and others "New York City" values. Trump actually takes it one step further in describing his values, "I've lived in New York City and Manhattan all my life," Trump said (Washington Post, 1/16/2016).

Those of us who grew up and lived near NYC know that the folks in Queens, Brooklyn, the Bronx and Staten Island get a little bit piqued when Manhattan is used to represent the city as a whole. The worst of the Manhattanites (including serious conservatives) consider you not to be "in the game" if you are not in Manhattan. I know some of these folks first hand. Peggy Noonan would be a good representative of the mindset.

What you say about Houston is absolutely true, and ostrich leather boots notwithstanding, no one is going to confuse Ted Cruz with a real cowboy, and he doesn't pretend to be one any more than Gerry Spence did. It has to do with identifying with a culture that is identified with Texas in a way that the Niagara wine country is not identified with New York, because NYC suck all the air out of the room.

When Trump talks about New York values, we know he is talking Manhattan, and a general urban outlook. When Cruz talks Texas values, we think of land rights, gun ownership, "Home on the Range", the Alamo and no shame in being an open Christian.

I'd like to not paint an entire state with a single brush.

Texas has some folks to NOT be proud of including the likes of Wendy Davis and Ann Richards among others. Texas has obviously been struggling to avoid going purple. I know here in Idaho we had a good influx of Texans moving here. I think Texas was #2 behind California moving into our state.

Hopefully, we are taking in the 'right' kind of folks so our state doesn't start to go purple.

Here in Idaho we have one bastion of liberalism in Sun Valley with all the celebs having homes there.

And, here is a prime example of another lie from Ted Cruz. He just said in IA the other day that he wasn’t going to attack Trump - then comes out with attack ads. Geesh, one can’t believe a word he says any more.

Hmm, an ad that uses Trump's own words from his own mouth is an attack ad....

And just how damn hard is it to understand that freaking principle ?

And the follow up, if you can't understand that freaking principle, what the hell damn business do you have running for the President of the USA ?

If I'm outa line, please give me a tune up

Nah, you're fine.

When I heard Cruz use the line, my first reaction was wondering why he would dump on an entire state?

Trump had referred to Iowa voters as stupid and Cruz's remark sounded similar IMO.

But, like I'll keep on saying...Trump is my #1, Cruz is my #2.

Liberals are everywhere. I don’t like to paint with a broad brush but it is what it is. I honestly believe New York is gone, California is gone. We are not there yet in Idaho or Texas, but the nature of humanity is toward bondage and totalitarianism even if it is pink warm and fuzzy. If we do not distinguish, we too will melt into the same culture. So break out the broad brush.

"Trump had referred to Iowa voters as stupid and Cruz's remark sounded similar IMO."

Trump had asked a rhetorical question expressing disbelief in response to Cruz's temporary lead in the Iowa polls.

Cruz on the other hand slammed the whole state of New York's values.

That's a big difference.

And Trump borrowed from GS and Citi Bank and went BK on some of the loans. And of course you know Trump is in bed with George Soros on a project in Chicago; of did you conveniently forget about that?
