Former Texas Gov. Rick Perry is endorsing Ted Cruz in the Republican presidential primary, Perry told POLITICO in an interview Sunday night.
Perry, who also sought the GOP nomination before dropping out in September, said he now sees the race as one that is between Cruz, a fellow Texan, and Donald Trump. Through phone calls and during a December day spent driving around his Round Top, Texas, home in his truck with Cruz, Perry said he found the senator to be a good listener who respects the Tenth Amendment, "knows what he does not know" and is more conservative than Trump.
"Of those individuals who have a chance to win the Republican primary, at this juncture, from my perspective, Ted Cruz is by far the most consistent conservative in that crowd," Perry said. "And that appears to be down to two people."
Perry, who is famously skilled at retail politics, will campaign with Cruz Tuesday across Iowa, and will join Iowa GOP Rep. Steve King to stump for Cruz again Wednesday. Perry and King will both join Cruz at a Des Moines rally Wednesday night.
The endorsement gives Cruz the blessing of the longest-serving governor in Texas history, just as the senator faces intensifying heat from other veteran politicians, including from his colleagues in Washington, Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad and former Senate Majority Leader Bob Dole.

Rick Perry is OK...but I really wish he would dump Beck.
Trump is not mocking God. Christians do, on the other hand, appear to be mocking God, and speaking for God as well. Take heed. Bears repeating.
Christians are mocking Trump...not Mocking God...even if they are, so I’m right again, lol. Time for more coffee.

Fake Tweeter account or compromised account. Beck knows the tweets are BS and so does Cruz. Katrina Pierson has been around conservative circles for years. Find me one person that knows her that says she a lefty. They don’t exist. Beck is a nutcase and Tweeter accounts are easy as to fake. Beck knows this. A fake tweet that he fell for about Trump voting for Obama came back to bite in square in the ass. That’s the biggest problem with Tweeter. It’s too easy to pretend to be someone you’re not.
Is that you Elmer (Fudd).
Great news for Cruz first Beck now Perry. Now he just needs Jeb to quit and throw his 1% behind him.
Trump will love the RINO Republican Senate and House or Representatives....to press forward with his
One payer, Universal Health Care... another name for Obamacare
Funding Planned Parenthood
Supporting Gay Marriage and
affirming his sister to the US Supreme Court. ( he has said she would make a fine Justice of the Supremes and she is as liberal as they get)
Watch this all happen in 2017 !!!
We won’t watch it happen.
Perry, who is famously skilled at retail politics ....... ha ha ha
First Beck, now Perry. Cruz is toast. He’s being endorsed by losers.
Very frightening to think this is Donald Trump’s press secretary. Mercy me...
Yep, Perry is a conservative all right. But he can be bought. And he has a memory problem.
Is it his memory? I always thought he was somewhat dim.
He endorses amnesty. Hardly a conservative.
Could just as easily have been bandwagoning when Beck accepted Cruz's endorsement last week...
Walker - Pribus - Ryan - Rove...all on the same RINO team.
Glad Perry endorsed Cruz over Jeb and Marco. I’m fine with as many people lining up behind Trump and Cruz as possible. Makes the possibility of nominating ONE of them that much better.
Although I personally think the Beck endorsement hurts more than it helps and appearances with him are probably a mistake. But an endorsement from Perry is a pretty good get imho.
I’m not going to rip into Perry. I think he’s a good guy. And fortunately he’s right where he should be right now: on the sidelines.
Mostly, the electorate will not care who lines up behind whom now.
It’s up to Cruz and Trump to make their cases directly to voters.
I’m thrilled. Either of them spells the end of the Uniparty monopoly.
I think Cruz will more effectively reduce the GOPe to rubble.
Romney would not have been better the Obama, at best he would have been as bad.
It isn’t so called conservatives that are the problem, it’s the hard core liberals who support Romney, Bush, McCain and Dole, liberals RINO’S every one.
