“Read the article and you will see that Cruz cannot cut Beck loose because his money bag donors are partners with Beck. “

and more than that Glenn Beck is sure to turn on Ted Cruz if Cruz tries to distance himself from Beck. Cruz would replace Trump as Beck’s villain of choice.

“I will certainly agree with that but David Barton’s claim that Jefferson did not father Sally Hemmings’ children is not reasonable.”

Yeah it is. There were what, more than 20 Jefferson males living in the vicinity of Monticello and of the proper age to impregnate Sally Hemmings, if I recall the details correctly. Jefferson’s nephews Peter and Sam Carr liked to fraternize with the Monticello slaves and are the most likely suspects for having fathered Heming’s children. Jefferson’s daughter thought that was the case and said so to her children Ellen Coolidge and Thos Randolph.

The only thing the DNA reveals to us is that some Jefferson male was responsible, but not which one. And as a side note I think Barton’s histories are ridiculous. Barbara Tuchman taught us that someone doesn’t need a degree in history to be a first rate historian. But David Barton is no Barbara Tuchman.

Crus is toast. He has been ineligible since birth. I give him great credit in grandstanding against Reid and Obama. Lots of Guts. Just not born on USA soil. He’s finished . If he will shut his damned mouth on Trump he might make a Supreme court Justice but he is fast becoming a “nothing”. He needs to SHUT UP!!

I had friends who worked in the Christian apologetics field some twenty five years ago and through them I became acquainted with David Barton’s writing.

I’ve read a few books on the founding era- books by Forrest McDonald, Bernard Bailyn’s Ideological Origins of the American Revolution, Mel Bradford’s A Worthy Company, that sort of thing. Books by conservative friendly scholars that provide a look at the ideas that the founders held.

If someone wants to learn about the founding era and how the Christian religion fits in with it they would be much better off sticking with McDonald and Bailyn and Bradford and giving the dubious claims of David Barton a very wide berth.

I agree that Thomas Jefferson may not have been the father of Sally Hemings’ children according to the DNA evidence, , but as the original 1998 study indicated:

“The DNA testing found no genetic link between the Hemings and Carr descendants, refuting Jefferson's grandchildren"s assertion that his Carr nephews fathered Sally Hemings" children.” “The results of the study established that an individual carrying the male Jefferson Y chromosome fathered Eston Hemings (born 1808), the last known child born to Sally Hemings. There were approximately 25 adult male Jeffersons who carried this chromosome living in Virginia at that time, and a few of them are known to have visited Monticello. The study’s authors, however, said “the simplest and most probable” conclusion was that Thomas Jefferson had fathered Eston Hemings.” “Thomas Jefferson was at Monticello at the likely conception times of Sally Hemings" six known children. There are no records suggesting that she was elsewhere at these times, or records of any births at times that would exclude Jefferson paternity.” Occam’s razor must be applied. https://www.monticello.org/site/plantation-and-slavery/thomas-jefferson-and-sally-hemings-brief-account

It might help to recall why a controversy that had been ginned up by James Callender in 1800 was back in the news. And that was because the Clinton gang was trying to use it to diminish Bill Clinton’s sleazy sexual behavior.

With this statement that you quote the study’s authors reveal that their conclusion isn’t based on definitive evidence, it’s simply their preferred explanation:

“There were approximately 25 adult male Jeffersons who carried this chromosome living in Virginia at that time, and a few of them are known to have visited Monticello. The study’s authors, however, said “the simplest and most probable” conclusion was that Thomas Jefferson had fathered Eston Hemings

Occam’s Razor, of which I’m very fond, is a problem solving tool and not a law of logic. It gives a probable answer and not a definitive one.

In order to apply it in this case you have to know that none of the 25 other possible Jefferson males were at Monticello at the same times. Seeing as Jefferson was sociable and not a hermit, and that these 25 Jefferson males were family, Occam’s Razor argues that this is not so.

As nothing will be definitive we can just disagree.

On that we do agree.

The DNA “test” determined that some one in the Jefferson line was the father. TJ’s brother was in charge of the plantation while TJ was doing government service. When he got back to Monticello, he discovered his brother was raping slaves and sent him off. He also discovered that this brother had bankrupted him. This is another urban myth about TJ.

The South is how it is mostly because of who settled it and that we were never overrun with immigrants like the northeast was

But now we are being invaded no question by non southerners

Some are good folks wanted to be with us

I know plenty Michigan and Kali and Jersey folks in metro Nashville who came here to be with kinsmen

And I welcome them

But we get libs too

It’s a mixed bag

The cooler rhetorically the destination the more likely you get the wrong outsiders

Austin

Asheville

No— Only that “A” Jefferson (several kinships shared the same genetic markers measured, in fact) was present when Hemings conceived. There is NO way to definitively say Thomas committed miscegination with 1/8th blood Hemings. ALL the DNA showed was that “A” Jefferson did as far as ONE of her children. The known history of Jefferson’s younger brother Randolph speaks the loudest, inasmuch as he definitely produced mixed babies with LOTS of slaves, with a profligate ruinous life he also lead, and failed. This is the difference between agenda driven groups of PC libs and clinical biochemical facts.

Exactly. Thank You, from the descendants of Thomas— through his daughter as he never had a son. Deo Vindice.

Agree with you on Southrons and Trump. And as for Beck— once he started that “we are all ONE” Dr. Bronner’s Castile soap label, Ghandi crap, he lost me. He did one great thing— the exposure of the truth of communism, in particular the Holodomor in the Ukraine and the fact that marxist/socialism/communism is theft of property and most importantly of human nature and spirit. Deo Vindice.

Also don’t trust Barton’s “scholarship”. But I do trust the experts on Jefferson (not the agenda driven ones who definitely got into it with the Thomas J. descendants). Patrick Henry would never have said the US is a Christian nation— from both practical and personal reasons he would not say this. His devoted caring for his insane wife Sarah Shelton, as a devoted loving husband, for better or worse- speaks to his personal belief. But as regards Revolution against Tyranny— it was a close run thing and did not need to winnow out willing participants.

Would be interested, if not on this forum- to learn your thoughts on Andrew Breitbart- who had a permanent falling out with Beck over Shirley Sherrod episode where Beck was caught live on the air having stolen and re-edited the tapes of Sherrod’s presentation to black farmers (when Breitbart was making the point that the TEA Party was not racist, but that the NAACP actually was/is), and caught in the lie about Sherrod’s epiphany, which Breitbart’s piece made quite clear. From that point Breitbart had nothing good to say about Beck, calling him an auto-didact and a user and liar, and that he had “tripped into the conservative movement” as an opportunity in his headlong pursuit of media stardom. It is pretty revealing, and I’m very sorry still for the loss of Breitbart, because he had NAILED hollywood’s cultural marxism (needing to separate the US from our religious and culturally conservative beliefs and to do it in the universities- to destroy us), and with them, obamaumao. Breitbart had a real handle on the central good that is the United States, and the threat to that good.

As our Founder’s conceived of it— immigrants should be allowed into the US for what they can ADD, to contribute. We do not owe them the freedom of a citizen, simply because they WANT to come here. That has been the twisted BS logic of the liberal Tammany vote buyers— from the grateful unwashed and uniformed new grateful handout democrat constituents.

“Their preferred explanation”— Exactly, and very much agenda driven by the lib-leftist opposition to the FFV and Thomas Jefferson in particular, engima that he was, and a giant intellect/polymath they cannot envision from the facts.
