JANUARY 22, 2016 ~ CONSISTENTCONSERVATIVES
This is an emergency means for us to keep in touch with our FRiends, who are real Conservatives, in case of purging. Or, if there is no purging, do we really want to continue our discussions in the forum where the owner despises us for not supporting his non-Conservative candidate?
My purpose is to figure out what to do to continue our discussions to advance Conservatism.

I’m not surprised at all. They are not treating Mr. Robinson any different than they have been treating Trump supporters all along. Just the idea that someone might be a Trump supporter gives them the ‘right’ to attack venomously, they think.

First of all, thank you Jim Robinson for Free Republic. I appreciate your providing me with a place where I can air my views and find out what others are thinking and saying. I also appreciate the opportunity to engage in the spirited back and forth that we FReepers love.
I too have been sometimes taken aback by the personal attacks and have said so. All things considered though, I still believe that allowing the spewers and frothers to be among us is what makes the site live up to its name. Those who don’t know any better than to personally attack posters, who use vulgar language, or are tasteless in general are a stark contrast to the majority of articulate and competent defenders of their view that FR has come to be known for hosting. To my mind, they perform a function. They are, for that reason, easily identified and just as easily ignored if one chooses. I, myself, have been guilty of engaging them, not to accomplish any victory but simply for entertainment. I’ll admit, that’s stooping to their level and I intend try to do better.
I fully appreciate your banning those whose vulgarity and hatred go over the top. But to me, Free Republic, it’s wonderful, diligent truth seekers and sayers, along with the not so graceful and even the frothers and spewers, are a model of a free nation whose bedrock is free speech.
If some members are upset because they can’t brand those they consider “not real Conservatives” and “not real Christians” with a scarlett letter of shame, then they absolutely should start their own site. It won’t be long until they find out that each individual of them has just a little different perspective on what being “real Christian” or a “real Conservative” consists of. They will then begin to eat their own exactly as they have tried to do here.
What I need to do and believe to be a “real Christian” is between me and My Maker. What I need to do to be a “real” political anything is entirely up to me and no one else.

Cruz supporters had a terrible weekend. It’s understandable — he seemed so rock-solid, so perfect. Difficult to imagine the Trump tool chest crashing down the stairs to dominate this primary.
Most people are slow to change their opinions.

Within reason, a little snarkiness is spicy. But this is a VERY unusual situation. I do hope an amnesty is worked out if there is any purging over Cruz/Trump ....
“Conservative” is really not such a great term because it implies preserving the status quo. We need to blow up the status quo. The issue in our country is FREEDOM. The great threat to our freedom is the mostly unconstitutional $4 trillion federal government and the greatest protector of our political and economic freedom is the U.S. Constitution which must be reinstated as the Supreme Law of the Land, Ruler over the feds, and over-rider of unconstitutional federal laws of which there are many.
Personal, spiritual freedom is really a root cause issue of our troubles because we’ve turned from trusting in God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, to confidence in man and his government. But spiritual freedom is absolutely an individual choice and the feds are constitutionally barred from meddling in our personal lives and beliefs.
The enemy is the federal government and the prize is freedom.
Many so-called “conservatives” express a basic distrust in freedom. But freedom is what makes life worthwhile and it is worth dying for. It is individual FREEDOM that made America great, not government - individuals free to live their lives as they saw fit. Adam Smith’s “invisible hand” is what coalesced individual freedom into the greatest, wealthiest, and most powerful country in the world.
If “conservatism” is about anything other than freedom, individual, political, and economic, I’m not interested.
I think that we Trump supporters should be the ‘real men’ here. We’re doing well. We’re fortified with so much going for us. Cruz supporters have had a terrible weekend.

LOL. I concur, there is not reason to instigate/initiate a fight or flame war. Insults will only further the divide. Don’t start it and don’t continue it by firing one back.

But...
I have given serious consideration to giving FR a break these past few weeks. I just can’t believe many on this forum have gone all-in for the (D)onald, up to the point of attacking - RELENTLESSLY! - a man like Ted Cruz. I’ve never been more disgusted with so-called conservatives in my life.
This forum is doing more and more on a daily basis to convince me to NEVER vote for the (D)onald. I’m at the point where, if he is the nominee, I may just stay home.
And - yes - if that means Hillary gets elected, so be it. At least our boogeyman will be plainly visible. At least we can continue to try and fight her directly, instead of being scammed by a self-serving political windsock who will “cut deals” that ultimately are worse for our country than just blatant socialism. I’d rather have the country go down the poop-chute with a Democrat at the helm than someone professing to be a Republican.
(Hell, I don’t even consider myself a (R) anymore anyway. I’m a (C).)

Are you really purging people for espousing concerns about Trump? That would be really concerning if true. But I would be surprised if so.

Did the SC overrule itself? If not, then it is the law.
I don’t think anyone has been banned - but I could be wrong. If they were, it was for attacking Trump supporters, insulting them for having differing opinions and calling in their friends to attack in a mob. They also tried to get Trump threads removed and solely conjure here - probably tried to get Trump supporters banned.
