Field & Stream: Q&A: Donald Trump on Guns, Hunting, and Conservation https://t.co/RFR63RSq38 pic.twitter.com/WkvIrTSSGy— Field & Stream (@FieldandStream) January 22, 2016

Some news to report out of Las Vegas where Donald Trump sat down with Field & Stream magazine for an interview during the National Shooting Sports Foundation’s annual SHOT Show.

First up, the GOP front-runner came out against letting states control public lands now run by the federal government saying, “I don’t like the idea because I want to keep the lands great, and you don’t know what the state is going to do”:lands

lands

This is what they’re talking about, with the land in red owned by the federal government:

publicland

Rand Paul has already spoken about this, saying in 2015 that federal lands should be handed over to state or local governments:

“I’d either sell or turn over all the land management to the states,” Paul, a Republican presidential candidate and senator from Kentucky, said, landing him big applause at a campaign event. “I don’t think the federal government needs to be involved.”

Later in the interview, Trump seemed to signal that we shouldn’t allow oil and gas companies to drill any new wells on federally-controlled lands because there’s already “so much energy”:

I see Trump as the first shot over the bow. I hope he brings Cruz along as VP. What Trump doesn’t get in his eight years, Cruz could finish in the subsequent eighth years. Sixteen years of recovery.

Trump will clean Hillary’s clock while I think Hillary will beat Cruz. That’s not good for anyone.

I believe Trump genuinely cares about America and wants to do right by her. I’m not troubled by a citizen-statesman-type guy who doesn’t know everything but is teachable. We’ve had too many lawyers doing this stuff which is why we’re in the mess we are in. I don’t buy the “ruling elite” paradigm. I’m much more wary of a know-it-all who’s heart is more about his political future than America’s.

So in short the constitution is dangerous because we just might not like what the states do with their constitutionally given authority. So more big government, more top down management of everything by our betters... We can’t handle our rights...

This is why I keep saying Trump has no real interest in the constitution and/or containing the federal government within its limits.

And all I get is he’ll make America Great! Rah!, Rah!, Rah! in return.

You cannot make it great without the constitution.

It is like the socialist who demands that all who failed before him did it wrong and he’s smarter than the rest and will make it work as advertised - for the first time...

Either you start with the principles that will make America Great again or you don’t. And if you don’t you won’t succeed.

Because we don’t want another Bush 41 or GW!

If you actually want the change you say you do. You have to start by accepting the limits set forth in the constitution placed on the federal government.

The federal government has to be reined in. The only way to do that is one by one pruning each overreach as you come across it.

2nd term fight as far as priorities. Trump shall remain laser focused on Wall, Immigration, intl trade/economy, defense. That’s enough for me. The question is winding through the courts now anyway.

Hunting and Fishing Liscences are issued by each.

Fees from them go to conservation programs for that state.

Hunters and Fishers contribute to conservation via the state, not the Fed.

Are you frigging Trumpers still thinking he's a conservative?
Really?

I am so disgusted with so many on this board and the Trump supporters in general. All you people have NO idea the liberal you are supporting. Talk about "talking the political talk". Bill Clinton did the same thing.

Trump is a bombastic, clueless, narcissistic, loose cannon that has no idea what the Constitution of the United States says nor its original intent. He doesn't even understand the differences between the 3 branches of Fegov - witnessed by how he's going to supposedly restore America on his own,. He reminds me of loud-mouth punks in my school days who would over-talk others to sound important.

Trump is our new Perot. "Well, I'm just going to fix things", said Perot, and handed the election BillyBoy. You people are being sucked in by his simple rhetoric. If Hillary gets the nomination she will destroy Trump in debates because she is an experienced liar, parser, spinner, denier, and knows how to avoid a question by changing the subject. Trump can only interject so many times before Hillary starts spouting back. Trump will just stand there with his pouty little mouth and wonder why he's not back on Celebrity Apprentice.

WTF is wrong with you people? Trump is now showing his liberal roots as he has had through his life. I swear if he's the nominee, I would sooner not vote and let Hillary take us further down the road to absolute socialism and possibly cause a revolt. You people are giving another liberal the Oval Office if he wins. Pfft, glad I'm heading towards end days. I've had enough of dumbass voters both left and right.

Donald Trump supports an “assault weapons” ban...
That’s not “supporting the 2nd Amendment”.

It doesn’t matter what Trump says, the trumpansies (notice I didnt’ write trumpanzees) will blindly follow along. Like he said, he could stand in the street and shoot people and they’d still follow him off a cliff like lemmings.

This is the 1st time we have the chance to actually vote a Conservative into office since the 80’s and we have all of these CINOs belching over a wall. I’m sure he’s going to build a wall, well if he can make a Deal, but it’s going to have a great big DOOR in the middle of it. My only consolation in this is getting to point out what a bunch of hypocrites they are when they’re crying on here after he turns out to be another GHWB or worse. But I’m sure they’ll all slink away or, at worst, change their user id’s and pretend they always hated Trump.

You wouldn’t vote to try to block the commies? Now that is disappointing. I can remember when we fought the commies with real bullets. Now we have one sitting in the WH and two more competing for the democrat primary.

I just posted this to someone else:

Trump may not be a star conservative and is not my first choice, but neither was Bush, Dole, McCain, Romney, et al.

But I crawled over broken glass to vote for them against the commies.

Defeatism sickens me.

You raise issues of specific sites, but in the interview Trump was talking Federal Land in general (most being Forrest, Mountan, Desert, Etc..)’

Cruz is a 10th Amenemt guy. The standoff has only an indirect connction to the use of Federal lands, and the reason why opposed was tactical.

"Those lands would probably be sold to large investors."

So what's the problem? Large investors create industry, jobs, income, taxes, et al. Trump is a myopic commercial real estate mogul who hasn't the least clue on the best use of public land. In fact, I've recently learned that he forced some old lady out her house by pressuring the local government to claim "eminent domain" to build a f*cking parking lot for a casino.

And no, I don't care how much she was offered for the property, it was hers and she wanted live her life there. A good example of another obscene USSC decision to allow municipalities to confiscate under the "eminent domain" clause for the good of private builders. That has to be one of the most unConstitutional decisions I've ever seen in my lifetime. Sorry, forgot the name of the suit but believe it was some beach front property in Florida or New Jersey.
