Dear Northeast Freepers:
Please check-in to let us know that you're safe. If you want to share your blizzard experiences- whether funny or scary - we're listening. If you need something, please say so. Maybe we can help or get word to someone who can.
~Signed, Your Friends at Free Republic.
0509 hrs, still nothing here at exit 5 route 84 in New York.
All snow seems to be southward from here.
Don’t know exactly where snowline falls.
Radar shows snow on top of me at moment.
5:15AM in Carroll County, MD and we have a foot now. It’s powdery - blowing everywhere. I’ll wait until it is light out to go down to the barns. It’s so light that it has piled up on the shrubs but the branches are not bent.
We strung ropes from the house to the fence, and between fence lines, so if there is a whiteout while we are in the barns we have a guide back to the house. I hope that was done with an overabundance of caution, but better to have it and not need it...
Looks like we’ll miss the blizzard here in Tampa, but there’s plenty of severe weather warnings. Here’s one we should all take note of:
IF YOU BECOME CAUGHT IN A RIP CURRENT...DO NOT PANIC. REMAIN CALM
AND BEGIN TO SWIM PARALLEL TO SHORE. ONCE YOU ARE AWAY FROM THE
FORCE OF THE RIP CURRENT...BEGIN TO SWIM BACK TO THE BEACH. DO
NOT ATTEMPT TO SWIM DIRECTLY AGAINST A RIP CURRENT. EVEN A STRONG
SWIMMER CAN BECOME EXHAUSTED QUICKLY.
Love it ! Yes, I want my safe space w/o snow !!
Food is running out. Won’t last muc
Icing here in south central NC. Pine Trees got weighted down with ice Friday and in the late afternoon when the wind picked up the branches started breaking off.
Got two 10 footers down in our yard. Neighbor has one blocking his double drive. Many more all over town.
Smart folks move their cars out from under pines during an ice storm. Our are all in the garage or street.
Annapolis Maryland here at 5:20 AM. We are catching all get out here. There is a good 2 plus feet on the ground and very strong snowfall. Winds about 20 mph or so. This is going to go on all day if the current forecast holds. Problem is that we don’t deal well with this. No sense shoveling the drive as no place to go. Plows won’t get to my street until Monday most likely. Hope the electricity holds up.
Hey good luck with your new starts! Safe shoveling and traveling !!
They were saying the air up north was so dry the snow was evaporating before it got to ground. That is why they had low forecast for central PA. Those forecasts have been doubled now. Means more moisture than expected. Has a outside chance to be number one storm in New York city history. At least since the 1700’s.
Grateful to get 4 inches of snow and NO ICE, which was what we feared, in southern TN. Now it’s just cold and quite windy. It’s an inconvenience for a couple of days.
I feel bad for all who are getting hammered up north tonight. Watching coverage on tv and it’s looking ugly. Now they’re saying it might be worse than originally forecast. I hope everyone in its path weathers the storm well. It’s definitely more than an inconvenience.
We left the March early yesterday but didn’t get far before traffic was a standstill. Stuck in East Providence Pennsylvania. Doubtful we will get home (Michigan) any time soon! Ugh! The radar looks exactly like it did when I went to bed!
thanks, that was nice :)
damn, that’s a hell of a shift in forecast !!
from my earlier post:
my better half has been laid off for a month and said it figures that there is no snow while sheâs laid off and doesnât have to commute to NYC.
she just got a contract job that starts monday!! she found out today.
but the moneyâs very good so sheâs going if i have to shovel all the way there for her :0
So you will be over 3 feet. In one storm. That is nasty. Sustained winds near the ocean in Maryland were 40 mph.
We’re safe, so far, in northwest Delaware (up in the hump). Got all the essentials for an extended stay (beer, wine, liquor, water, food, etc.) Good that we have this storm; forced me to check again emergency lighting, radio, batteries, etc.
Surprised you didn’t go to more of a mix. I have about 16 inches out in rural Virginia and still coming down strong. I think the trowal (tropopause fold) will rotate west and keep the snow going for a while out here, 2 feet easily, maybe 30 inches if we get lucky (I like snow and shoveling snow).
0530 charles county md.
mixed snow and ice with winds causing drifting.
forecast is 30 inches by the time it’s over sat. evening with winds to 50 mph.
still have electricity, but when the high winds start, will be lucky if it stays on.
very thankful our electric provider is not pepco, but smeco.
In Annapolis myself. Snow/sleet just now let up. Still expecting 6-10 more inches today before it’s all over.
