Against Trump [National Review's Manifesto]
National Review ^ | 1/22/16 | The Editors

Posted on 01/21/2016 7:27:45 PM PST by TBBT

Donald Trump leads the polls nationally and in most states in the race for the Republican presidential nomination. There are understandable reasons for his eminence, and he has shown impressive gut-level skill as a campaigner. But he is not deserving of conservative support in the caucuses and primaries. Trump is a philosophically unmoored political opportunist who would trash the broad conservative ideological consensus within the GOP in favor of a free-floating populism with strong-man overtones. Trump's political opinions have wobbled all over the lot. The real-estate mogul and reality-TV star has supported abortion, gun control, single-payer health care à la Canada, and punitive taxes on the wealthy. (He and Bernie Sanders have shared more than funky outer-borough accents.) Since declaring his candidacy he has taken a more conservative line, yet there are great gaping holes in it.

HAHAHAHAHA...stop it...LOL!!! Trump is about as conservative as Bernie Sanders.

FROM TRUMP’S BOOK ‘The America We Deserve’. TRUMP WROTE: “The Republicans walk the NRA line and refuse to even limited restrictions. I generally oppose gun control, but I support the ban on assault weapons and I also support a slightly longer waiting period to purchase a gun.”

When asked by Ammoland if Trump still supports this position, Trump artfully dodged the question and only claimed (THIS IS ANOTHER DIRECT QUOTE) that he “still generally opposes gun control”.

ANOTHER DIRECT QUOTE FROM A TRUMP INTERVIEW: Trump recently claimed that ‘assault’ weapons should be banned by stating, “who needs them except criminals and police?”

HERE IS TRUMP’s 2012 Presidential position:

• Trump believes that assault weapons should be banned, “who needs them except criminals and police?”

• He wants a longer waiting period for hand guns, rifles and shotguns. We should be able to tell within 72 hours if a person has a record or mental issues that would prohibit ownership.
http://2012.presidential-candidates.org/Trump/Gun-Control.php

BELOW IS TRUMP’S 2012/2013 PRO-AMNESTY DOCUMENTED STATEMENTS:

“Romney’s “crazy policy of self deportation” cost him the Latino vote and the Republican party in general needs to “take care of this incredible problem that we have with respect to immigration, with respect to people wanting to be wonderful productive citizens of this country.”

“Whether intended or not, comments and policies of Mitt Romney and other Republican candidates during this election were seen by Hispanics and Asians as hostile to them, Trump says.

“Republicans didn’t have anything going for them with respect to Latinos and with respect to Asians,” the billionaire developer says.

“The Democrats didn’t have a policy for dealing with illegal immigrants, but what they did have going for them is they weren’t mean-spirited about it,” Trump says. “They didn’t know what the policy was, but what they were is they were kind.”

So you’re saying that you “know” Trump has changed his position in last 2 years on just about every topic except

BELOW IS TRUMP’S PRO-SOCIALIZED SINGLE PAYER POSITION FROM 09/27/2015:

Pelley: How do you fix it?

Trump: There’s many different ways, by the way. Everybody’s got to be covered. This is an un-Republican thing for me to say because a lot of times they say, “No, no, the lower 25 percent that can’t afford private. But–”

Pelley: Universal health care.

Trump: I am going to take care of everybody. I don’t care if it costs me votes or not. Everybody’s going to be taken care of much better than they’re taken care of now.

Pelley: The uninsured person is going to be taken care of. How? How?

Trump: They’re going to be taken care of. I would make a deal with existing hospitals to take care of people. And, you know what, if this is probably—

Pelley: Make a deal? Who pays for it?

Trump: —the government’s gonna pay for it. But we’re going to save so much money on the other side. But for the most it’s going to be a private plan and people are going to be able to go out and negotiate great plans with lots of different competition with lots of competitors with great companies and they can have their doctors, they can have plans, they can have everything.

HERE ARE SOME MORE PRO-SOCIALIZED SINGLE-PAYER QUOTES FROM TRUMP:

• “If you can’t take care of your sick in the country, forget it, it’s all over. ... I believe in universal healthcare,” Trump told CNN’s Larry King in October 1999.

• “I would put forth a comprehensive health care program and fund it with an increase in corporate taxes, “ Trump told The Advocate right before he dropped out of the race in February 2000.

• “The Canadian plan also helps Canadians live longer and healthier than America. … We need, as a nation, to reexamine the single-payer plan, as many individual states are doing,” Trump writes in his 2000 book The America We Deserve.

While bantering with David Letterman on Jan. 8, 2015, Trump voiced admiration for Scotland’s publically funded health care system and suggested that the problem with the Affordable Care Act is its implementation.

TRUMP SUPPORTED SINGLE-PAYER SOCIALIZED MEDICINE EVEN IN TEH 2016 DEBATES:
Trump responded: “As far as single payer, it works in Canada, it works incredibly well in Scotland.”

So please forgive us if we don’t all drink the Trump koolaid, but it is very hard to believe that Trump has changed nearly EVERY SINGLE LIBERAL position that he has held for the last 30 years, including positions that he has held ON RECORD as recently as 2012, 2013, 2015, AND 2016. Trump is a fraud, but I know facts are irrelevant to Trumpsters because they “feel” and “know” and “believe” that Trump has changed. Trump is applying for a job and telling the gullible what they want to hear. He is a LIAR and a SHAM!

You trumpets are the ones that made that claim when the issue was brought up.

I asked you to provide proof that Donald Trump has "deflected", i.e. "like Cruz" questions about being a Hillary Clinton plant.

So, instead, you claim that this is a "claim" that Trump supporters make and then you spam me with a whole page of barely legible text over entirely irrelevant subjects?

Hey moron, yes I did, but apparently you can’t read because your article was a OPINION and was NOT a direct quote f

Nope, they were direct quotes. But then you are barely even rational so how would you be able to tell?

I ask my students, “Who is most hurt if we eradicate poverty?”

Answer: Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton.

“Who is badly hurt by a Trump presidency” (in addition to illegals, Dems, and Islamic radicals)

Among others, the GOP #Smartset like National Review, the consultant class like the perverted toad Rick Wilson, the lobbyists who have dumped pollibly a billion dollars in donor money. Jonah Golberg got all irate on Twitter when I suggested that his position was at least partly mercenary, but it is. While these guys would always have some audience, they are worse off with a Trump win than if Hillary wins-—because then they can say “see, we were right!”

“When Trump brings back jobs from China maybe they can find work at an Apple plant assembling iPhones.”

When DT brings jobs assembling & manufacturing devise components back to the US will be:
1) right after someone in the US invests in building mega-billion dollar plants to have the jobs in and;
2) just before that when the US educational system actually educates and;
3) just before that when blue collar jobs are pushed ahead of white collar ones.

As a person who donates to Cruz and who defends either of them from stupid attacks - because they're ........ stupid, I couldn't help notice they also didn't say they support Cruz.

The question is, who do they support and why don't you care?

Absolutely never ever under any circumstances whatsoever never post anything about Russia and g-d help you if that post is in anyway possible construed favorable to Putin or Russia - your post will be spammed with multiple posts ... may the Lord have mercy on your eyes ...

I think he sits around off the site compiling long list of links, stuff, quotes at varying sizes to copy and paste into various threads.

Correct. Anyone who dares differ in the slightest from slavish praise of DJT will suffer and boil in their pot of toil until hell freezes over and that just for starters ... did I mention the viscous personal attacks? No? Well, slap on the adamantine armor ... it may hold.

You must understand - this is a revolution and those who once were believed to be conservatives are now the enemy, and those who were believed to be enemies are now friends ... all this is determined by the sagacious commentators here on FR whose long and illustrious careers and spread across many pages of comments ... well, other than the host of newbies who are without a personal page - but they are working on it.

Hear hear! You are not alone there are many who are getting slammed with personal attacks by the Trumpeters. I wonder how many of them are actually conservative/Republicans and how many are Democrat operatives attempting to manipulate support for DJT.

There seem to be two categories: those with personal pages on FR and those without. The most viscous attacks always come from those without ... draw your own conclusions as to which is which.

‘Conservatives’ without the backbone to stand up to obama created Trump.
Remember when McCain would not allow obamas middle name to be used?
We need to coin the phrase, “useless conservative” for all the gutless, go along to get along beltway scribes who seek to tell us what to think while displaying the intestinal fortitude of an earthworm.

“I asked you to provide proof that Donald Trump has “deflected”

No, I didn’t deflect I all. I got tired of arguing with your stupidity and went to bed.

Read post 58 and I dare you to take that challenge.

“Nope, they were direct quotes.”

Nope, those were direct quotes in DIRECT relation to the gang of 8 bill. The rest of your “quotes” were from the article and not Cruz.

“being a Hillary Clinton plant”

That is too precious coming from a noobie. You know, you’ve been on FR almost as long as Trump has been a republican...at least this time. So how much is Trump paying you?

“I asked you to provide proof...”

BTW...I’m still waiting for you Trumpies to provide a quote stating from Cruz that says “I support legalization”. Yet you two are not willing to provide that quote so instead, you misdirect and deflect and continue LYING about Cruz. Since you never provided that quote then I guess you have to stop LYING about it, but I know you won’t because your Obama and Trump liberals. That is just too funny. LOL

That is too precious coming from a noobie.

I'm going to invent a new FR term:

"donationsn00bie"

I notice that you're a "donationsn00bie", TXDuke.

I've been doing some checking around, and it's beginning to appear to me that a lot of the "Cruzers" (and I mean A LOT) that are making the other posters miserable with their obnoxious CruzEvangelizing don't seem to be ponying up to replace FR donations from the people that they're chasing away.

From this point on, when some loudmouth "Cruzer" starts in with the zealous spiel, I'm going to look, and if they're a donationsn00bie, like YOU, TXDuke, I'm going to slap them down as a dn.

Consider yourself the first.

As far as your "opinions", Talk To The Hand, until you get on the Board.

I'm beginning to think you "Cruzers" might be trying to disrupt FR's operating revenue ON PURPOSE, considering the CLEAR EVIDENCE (and lack thereof) on the Board.

Trump hasn't been part of the eGOP "scene" in DC and those that have spent their entire lives climbing the social ladder in the eGOP are scared they won't retain their positions if Trump wins. Period. THAT is why they oppose Trump.
