Against Trump [National Review's Manifesto]
National Review ^ | 1/22/16 | The Editors

Posted on 01/21/2016 7:27:45 PM PST by TBBT

Donald Trump leads the polls nationally and in most states in the race for the Republican presidential nomination. There are understandable reasons for his eminence, and he has shown impressive gut-level skill as a campaigner. But he is not deserving of conservative support in the caucuses and primaries. Trump is a philosophically unmoored political opportunist who would trash the broad conservative ideological consensus within the GOP in favor of a free-floating populism with strong-man overtones. Trump's political opinions have wobbled all over the lot. The real-estate mogul and reality-TV star has supported abortion, gun control, single-payer health care à la Canada, and punitive taxes on the wealthy. (He and Bernie Sanders have shared more than funky outer-borough accents.) Since declaring his candidacy he has taken a more conservative line, yet there are great gaping holes in it.

I never said you not being a Texas had anything to do with who you vote for. You’re projecting again!

I busted you out for not being a true Texan because you’re a LIAR and a COWARD and act like a childish retard so unlike a Texan. Your obvious lies and total ignorance also made it clear that you are no born and bred Texan.

You’re just mad because you keep getting busted for lying. Maybe you should just stop making yourself look so stupid!

You have not been able to argue your points so you keep resorting to name calling, but like most cowards, you hide behind the keyboard, which is why you’re probably a 12 year old typing from mommies basement. Don’t worry, you’re free to continue being a liberal commie and supporting a liberal democrat like Trump if you want. Hopefully, you’re just not old enough to vote!

Be thankful you’re not a Texan or I may have to challenge you to meet me and call me those names in person, but then you would no longer be capable of voting...or walking for that matter. Of course, you being the COWARD that you are, you would just run scared.

I busted you

No you didn't. You even ignored the quotations just to make a lame personal attack. Let's face it, you're mad because I busted you for being a liar, and also because you support a candidate whose face looks like it's made of play dough.

I am a native born Texan, but don't worry, if I see some guy with down syndrome knocking on my door, I'll know it's you and won't hurt you or anything.

Isn’t Trump supposed to make the Downs Syndrome jokes?

Or did he delegate that to you?

“because you support a candidate whose face looks like it’s made of play dough.”

HAHAHAHAHA...you’re such a retard. LOL

Sure...you just vote for the orange haired troll doll then. LOL

“You even ignored the quotations”

I didn’t ignore anything. I just used your quote to PROVE that you are a LIAR and severely lack in reading comprehension skills. Please show me in your quotes anywhere that Cruz says that he supports legalization or amnesty. Problem is, you CAN’T because he never said that. Again, you are busted for lying! A little hint...if you’re going to lie about something then don’t provide the quote that counters your own lie.

You are becoming a HUGE JOKE now!!

First of all, that quote proved the statement I made, that Cruz wanted it both ways and wouldn't take legalization off the table. You had dismissed that as the opinion of a liberal website. But as to legalization support specifically:

"And I'd like to make a final point to those advocacy groups that are very engaged in this issue and rightly concerned about addressing our immigration system, and in particular about addressing the situation for the 11 million who are currently in the shadows. If this amendment is adopted to the current bill the effect would be that those 11 million under this current bill would still be eligible for RPI status. [Registered Provisional Immigrant] They would still be eligible for legal status and indeed under the terms of the bill they would be eligible for LPR status as well [Lawful Permanent Resident], so that they are out of the shadows, which the proponents of this bill repeatedly point to as their principle objective -- to provide a legal status for those who are here illlegally to be out of the shadows. This amendment would allow that to happen.

And a second point to those advocacy groups that are so passionately engaged. In my view if this committee rejects this amendment, and I think everyone here views it as quite likely this committee will choose to reject this amendment, in my view that decision will make it much, much more likely that this entire bill will fail in the House of Representantives. I don't want immigration reform to fail. I want immigration reform to pass, and so I would urge people of good faith on both sides of the aisle, if the objective is to pass common sense immigration reform that secures the borders, that improves legal immigration, and that allows those who are here illegally to come in out of the shadows, then we should look for areas of bipartisan agreement and compromise to come together and this amendment --I believe if this amendment were to pass the chances of this bill passing into law would increase dramatically, and so I would urge the committee to give it full consideration and to adopt the amendment."

It’s difficult not to refute some of the ridiculous charges but I think we would be well advised to ignore some of the most outrageous posters like Greetings PH

“native born Texan”

No, you are NOT! I don’t believe it for a second. You’re just too STUPID to be a Texan and too much of a COWARD! If you even live here now, you must be from Austin, right??

Even you’re insults are pretty lame, but nice attempt at deflection. Are you really 12 years old??

What do you have to do to be classified as “these people?”

And then lied about?

Cruz would do far better against either of the Democrats than Trump.

Too many people hate Trump and there’s too much stuff in his trunk.

Ok...here is a little lesson on reading comprehension since you’re clearly too stupid to understand it yourself.

There is a huge difference between refusing to discuss legalization and Politico inferring from that refusal that Cruz refuses to take it off of the table. Political is making an OPINION that Cruz refuses to take it off of the table, but the only FACT is that Cruz refuses to talk about it at all until AFTER the border is secure.

“so that they are out of the shadows, which the proponents of this bill repeatedly point to as their principle objective”

OMG...are you really that dense. Cruz is not supporting any legislation to get illegals “out of the shadows”. Cruz is only directly quoting the stated objective of those people that drafted the original Gang of 8 bill.

Cruz was NOT supporting the bill. Cruz was supporting his amendment, which was a poison pill to the bill. What did you expect Cruz to say? Oh, I’m submitting an amendment that I hope kills the whole bill? Even Jeff Sessions states that the amendment was meant to kill the bill from the start. Cruz just had to sell the amendment and get the votes. You really need to stop taking quotes out of context and include the entire context, which clearly shows that Cruz used this amendment to STOP the bill and amnesty.

You are really making yourself look dumber and dumber. You might want to stop while you’re ahead.

Now you’re just getting juvenile. I guess the truth hurts. LOL!!! A 12 year old yankee living in Austin...you’re busted again!!!

Besides my wife would never give the time of day to a coward, gutter rat like you! Of course, that would be why you are single!

There is a huge difference between refusing to discuss legalization and Politico inferring from that refusal

Look how stupid you are. The first link was from Bloomberg, the second one was an interview with Chuck Todd. There was no Politico. But yes, Cruz was asked point blank about legalization and refused to take it off the table. Yes, that is a proper inference when Cruz refuses to say no in response to a direct question on that very subject.

Cruz is only directly quoting the stated objective of those people that drafted the original Gang of 8 bill.

Cruz is calling legalization part of "common sense" immigration reform. He isn't quoting any thing. He is challenging the Democrats to work with him to pass common sense reform, which brings illegals "out of the shadows."

Cruz was NOT supporting the bill. Cruz was supporting his amendment, which was a poison pill to the bill

Cruz opposed the pathway to citizenship. He supported legalization even after the gang of eight fight was over, and even offered the Democrats a doubling of green cards and a 500 percent increase in H1B visas as part of his compromise. Cruz long held that his compromise position was the way forward for the country, even after the gang of eight fight was over, like in this example:

"What Mr. Cruz has tried to articulate in both word and deed is a middle ground. It got no support from Democrats in Washington, but it goes further than many on the far right want to go by offering leniency to undocumented immigrants here already...

Asked about what to do with the people here illegally, however, he stressed that he had never tried to undo the goal of allowing them to stay.

"The amendment that I introduced removed the path to citizenship, but it did not change the underlying work permit from the Gang of Eight," he said during a recent visit to El Paso. Mr. Cruz also noted that he had not called for deportation or, as Mitt Romney famously advocated, self-deportation."

Cruz likes to lie and claim that the Gang of Eight fight was about legalization. It wasn't. Cruz's fight was about citizenship. Sessions, Lee, Cruz, even Rush Limbaugh, had already accepted the premise that illegals couldn't be deported.
