Some folks, including Don Trump, think Senator Cruz is not entitled to run for president because he is not a "natural born" citizen. This matter was debated when John McCain ran for the office, yet it seems that the correct answers are still not generally appreciated. So...
...is Senator Ted Cruz qualified to be president? Yes, because the 1790 Immigration Act declares flatly that people in his circumstances are "natural-born" citizens. That law followed the adoption of the constitution by about two years, and some of the founding fathers of the nation were in the Congress at the time. One knows, therefore, exactly what the constitution means by "natural-born".
John McCain's case is extraordinary. He is not a "natural-born" citizen because he was naturalized by act of Congress [snip]
So McCain, who should and could have been legally declared "natural-born", was naturalized instead. Congress never subsequently addressed the clumsy situation, though it could have laid the issues to eternal rest with a federal law precisely defining "natural-born"--as the 1790 act did.

So, you believe that the children fathered by American contractors in Iraq are natural born citizens of the USA.
Thank you Lady. Seems darn simple to me too. I said he was either an anchor baby to Canada or a natural born Canadian citizen, at birth. No wonder.
Mom had to apply for papers to instate Ted as an American citizen, I read that. Mom and Dad were Canadian citizens, with voting privileges.
Thank you!
Now, how do you convince libbylu? LOL!
A couple of years ago, 2010? 2011? he said he was not eligible. Then this year he insists he is. He isn’t the smartest guy in the room. It’s all hype. He’s won 5 cases and lost 4 in the Supreme Court. How about if a quarterback won 5 games and lost 4, would he be considered a Tom Brady?
You’re using your head and thinking. Good! Something a lot of people here are not doing. They just take Cruz’s word for it and think it’s the gospel truth.
Look up E. Vattel, Swiss authority on International law. He published The Law of Nations in 1758. John Jay, the future First Chief Justice of the Supreme Court sent a letter to George Washingtin, Chair of the constitutional Committee, advising the use of th term Natural Born Citizen as is found in Vattel. There is a tremendous amount of evidence that the Founders nd Framers were extremely familiar with Vattel’s work. Originally publishd in French, it was translated into English very quickly. You can find info. under Law of Nations as well as Vattel on the net.
.
Everything is cuz you said so, huh?
You truly are dense.
BORN in the U.S. of TWO Citizens Parents. Notice the S. It means both parents must be citizens.
John McCain was born out of country (Panama) to ‘two’ American parents.
Your scenario implies that the contractor is American and the mother is foreign, right?
If only one parent is American, the children would not be a Natural Born Citizen, but could be Naturalized.
I believe that was the way it was written in the naturalization guide.
.
Vattel was no authority. He lived in a monarchy.
The founders were the authority on the constitution, and when they convened as the congress they clarified the meaning: A natural born is one who is a citizen regardless of where he is born.
LoL Not too bad an idea considering what is in the W.H. now. We might even get someone with his head screwed on his shoulders from time to time. Wouldn’t that be something new?
If Rubio jumps in the lead, will he be put under the same scrutiny as Cruz?
Neither of his Parents were Citizens at the time of his Birth. He was a Legal Anchor Baby, not an NBC. Jindal was in the same situation.
“If only one parent is American, the children would not be a Natural Born Citizen, but could be Naturalized.”
Well then that would include Ted Cruz.
.
Denser than basalt.
And half as smart.
Cruz could not be naturalized because he was born a citizen.
Only aliens can be naturalized.
Meaning: they're not, but will be treated as such.
Just like a $1.00 coupon for ice cream will be treated as a dollar for the purpose of purchasing said ice cream.
However, it will never be truly a dollar, able to buy anything.
Correct.
Did you see that study guide too? I found it on googling “US naturalization study guide” and searched in the guide for “citizensip” and it came up for me.
Thanks.
Lillylu is just a lost cause. We’ve been trying to explain it to her for two or three dsys. There comes a time one must accept that nothing penetrates that rock. No brain cells there. the lights may be on, but nobody’s home.
Do you think that children born to American contractors and Iraqi women in Iraq are natural born citizens of the United States?
Everything i say I can back up with mountains of documentation. What do you have besides your blathering on about whatever you know nothing about.
If the children are born to US citizens and are raised in the US they are natural US citizens.
