Senate Confirms Obama Court Nominee Who Called Reagan a Bigot

Minnesota jurist Wilhelmina Marie Wright's written accusation that President Reagan tolerated racism did not hinder her ascent to the federal bench. The Senate voted 58-36 on Tuesday evening to confirm President Barack Obama's nominee to U.S. District Court in Minnesota.

While a student at Harvard Law School in 1989, Wright wrote an article published in the prestigious UCLA Law Review that accused Reagan and his administration of "bigotry" and implied that property rights undergird American racism.

Testifying before the Senate Judiciary Committee in July, Wright, an associate justice on the Minnesota Supreme Court, renounced the style but not the substance of her remarks 26 years ago.

Same goobers that deride conservatives who vote 3rd party or not at all based on principle. Can’t have it both ways.

I'll have to disagree with you that the 2nd Amendment would be in jeopardy; it would lead to much more bloodshed than anyone could tolerate.

The 2nd Amendment has already been effectively abolished in Democrat controlled states (such as California and New York) and in Democrat controlled cities (such as Chicago and D.C.) It will be a simple matter to incrementally abolish the 2nd Amendment in the rest of the U.S. once there is at least one more far left-wing Justice on the Court.

Scalia and Kennedy are two of the Justices that will be 80 next year and both were on the majority side in the 5 to 4 Heller decision. The next President will very likely replace one or both.

Sure they can. They say a thing and a unicorn craps it into being. We know these people as liberals. They may be in the closet about it, but they are liberals. Actions are what they are.

There is no reason that any more of Obama's radical lefty appointments should have been confirmed since the Republicans took back control of the Senate.

I agree but I also note that the process has been drug out to a crawl and I don't think any Appeals Court judges have been confirmed. I'm not saying they're 100% but it's not like they're rubber stamping every judge Obama sends them.

Cruz missed votes:

https://www.govtrack.us/congress/members/ted_cruz/412573

“From Jan 2013 to Jan 2016, Cruz missed 127 of 999 roll call votes, which is 12.7%. This is much worse than the median of 1.7% among the lifetime records of senators currently serving.”

Well, to stop the nominations, all Mitch McConnell has to do is not schedule a vote. They don’t need a filibuster - just no scheduling of votes. Really though, what’s happening here is the Senate Republicans have slowed judicial confirmations to a crawl with the only real confirmations coming for District Court rather than Appeals Court judges. I would prefer that they held NO VOTES but I suppose that’s not realistic.
*************************************************************
I don’t see why NO VOTES for Obama’s nominees is not realistic. We need to stop, or at least slow, the Obama monstrosity & its packing of the courts.

Of course, we mustn’t be mean to McConnell or TRUMP (BLESSED IS HIS NAME) will be angry like he is at Cruz for being mean to McConnell.

That is despicable. At least they should be docked a days wage for not showing up. I hate that they barely work at all and can't seem to show up on the minimum work days. Sad and he wants to be President? How on Earth will he handle working 365, 24/7 when he barely can work 50 days a year now. Cruz does not have the drive to be President......50 days a year he is working. Yikes.

“...and implied that property rights undergird American racism.”

Now who would want Americans to not have property rights anymore? It’s those wacky collectivists again!
