The Wal Mart closing 269 stores caught my attention. As the article says, Wally World does not retreat, it crushes everyone in their way. This shows the economy is really in trouble to the max. Hussein Obama's lies at the Sorry State of the Union speech certainly shows his continual lies. Nothing like over 93 million Americans out of work and not looking for work anymore because all the burger flipping jobs are being held by unemployed college professors.

People are realizing the soviet-style Federal Reserve manipulation of the money supply for political reasons has completely failed.

They are closing the Express stores which were a really bad idea.

Baloney. The economy may be in the dumps, but the Wal-Mart situation has nothing to do with it. Wal-Mart would have been closing stores anyway, as e-commerce displaces more and more traditional retailing from the market.

If you used Amazon as the barometer of this country's economic performance over the last few years, you'd get a very different story.

Do you have a feeling that something really bad is about to happen?...
Not for me as I have no stake in the Market. Personally I hope for the best and PREPARE for the worst:-)

“Did you know that 15 trillion dollars of global stock market wealth has been wiped out since last June?”

Really, factories, office buildings, and electrical generating plants have vanished into thin air? Nope, they’re still there. They are just selling for a slightly different price on the stock market. If you wait a while, you might get a better price....or maybe not.

It’s just Obama working to flesh out his “legacy.” We need to be praying that our country gets through the next 12 months and one day!

Where will the money go when the global ecomomy fails?

USA - the "safe haven."

Didn't they blame the weather for last years decline also?

But on the bright side it makes the snail crawl "recovery" look a lot better.

The WalMart in my neighborhood that is closing is one of the grocery-store only ones (do they call them Neighborhood WalMart?).

It used to be a standard WalMart. They closed it when they opened a Giant WalMart across town. Then they tore down the original one and planted this grocery store one there.

We have wondered for the last two years how they have stayed in business. I love shopping there at times. There are only two or three customers in the store. Any time you drive by you can see never more than 10 cars in the lot.

Nobody around here is surprised this one is on the list.

I see oil as an indicator. Oil is down because world demand is going to crater as the world’s restart the global recession.

One of the questions in the OP is, why are they closing so many strores?

I dunno but I’ve been watching their stock fall for a lot of years. The employee attitudes are horrible in many cases, and they’ve pretty much priced ME out of the market. I can do much better shopping elsewhere, and do.

One of the stores closing is just a few blocks from where I live, and it does a thriving business! There are a couple of strip malls in the same area which depended on the busy customer base coming and going from that store so I’m sure that this closing will greatly impact them as well. A new building JUST went up, and I don’t think they’ve even opened the doors to the new stores that have rented space there, yet. OUCH!

ANd nobody here is earning $15/hr at any of these walmarts. And even if they did, walmart needs to be selling MORE goods, not closing stores.

They must be in financial hawk that’s not gone public yet. They went down hill after ole Sam died.

Walmart is closing 154 domestic stores.
They are also opening an almost equal number domestically.
They will ultimately open more stores than they are closing.

"Walmart plans to open stores worldwide in the coming fiscal year. Domestically, Walmart intends to open 50 to 60 Supercenters and 85 to 95 Neighborhood Markets in Fiscal 2017, which begins February 1. In the same period, Sam's Club plans to open in seven to 10 new locations. Internationally, Walmart intends to open between 200 and 240 stores during the coming year."
