I like him personally. I've been to his office. I've observed him privately dealing with his staff and people coming inside his building. He is personally, when the cameras are turned off, an incredibly gracious person. I know many people who do not believe that because all they see is the public Trump, but when the lights are down, the cameras are turned off, and Donald Trump, not "The Donald", is present, he's a good guy.
Not only that, but as I've mentioned before, Trump Hotels are some of the best I've ever stayed in. I try never to miss an opportunity to stay in the Trump Chicago and the Trump Hotel on Central Park has generated fond memories for my family.
Donald Trump is not my cup of tea as a candidate. I'm more into candidates who try to lift us to the better angels of ourselves and I do not think his campaign is doing that right now. Before I started writing about politics, I worked in politics. As a rule of thumb, I think anger burns out and it is tough to sustain over time. If Donald Trump really has become a conservative, I take St. Paul to heart that we should not put new converts in charge. He needs some time helping the movement before he leads the movement.
At the same time, so many of us, myself included, have been wrong about Trump's appeal. I have tried to steer clear of the rank condescension towards Trump supporters because a lot of people have legitimate grievances against the government and Trump resonates with them.

Love it.
Doesn’t matter. The guy is a minor league political hoe who will do anything for a buck.
I had to double check the writer of this article. :)
There are good consultants and bad consultants. The good ones by and large remain invisible. The bad ones make themselves part of the story, as advertising for their next gig.
Now I have come full circle!!!!!!!
Thank-you, yes I am being churlish!!!!!
I will take your exhortation and be positive and rejoice in good news.
Thanks again!!!!
What did Donald Trump buy when he paid the Clinton Foundation $250,000?
Does this Erick Erickson guy publish a Trump hit piece EVERY day?
What a serious case of DTS.
Ah good old Erikk who hates Ted., doesn’t like Trump, can it stand anything that doesn’t look like the establishment and Paul Ryan
I agree, on balance it is a positive article and very good points concerning the good things that Trump caused to happen. I think the author was being sincere and objective. He should have left out the Rubio part, he is a traitor to conservatives.
I have been a Trump supporter from the beginning, but over time I’ve come to think that I would like to see his rise be due more to more substantive policy material and clarity of vision. Just clubbing and trashing good people simply because they are in your way is a turn off and it is why people have reservations about him. I mean that is really “NY values” on display.
He has been so nasty and vicious to Cruz, who until Trump came along was about the only person calling out the GOPe and political leaders. Compare what he has said about Cruz compared to what he said about Nikki Haley. She really broadsided a lot of people beyond Trump. So why did he go easy on Nikki and just totally go so ugly on Cruz.?
Y’all need to simmer down. This is a fair look at the Trump campaign and the good things about it. Please, please, please, Trump fans, stop berating everyone who speaks. This is starting to deteriorate quickly. The goal is to win in November. You can’t do that if you incessantly insult everyone else.
It is NOT a fair look because this article was written by Erick Erikson. I am NOT for Trump as a first choice. I’ve always been for Cruz first - you can check that if you care - I’ve never said anything different.
Erick is STILL a name dropping opportunist and he realizes he’s on the outs and he’s making noise anywhere he can to get back to the slimelight. I AM NOT buying it. I am not going to ‘go-along, get-along’ and suffer through another loser like Bush or Rubio or Christie or Kasich again in the mold of McCain or Romney. Just not gonna do it.
Was he getting to much flack at REDSTATE, so he is changing his identity?
Simple. SWOT analysis. Something you learn very early in business school. Ted is a threat to the goal, and Nikki is just plain insignificant and is nowhere on the decision matrix.
S trengths

That bears repeating.
The gap between the parties has widened into a chasm. I would vote for any of the Republicans against any of the Democrats. I would do so with more enthusiasm for some than others, but in the end, we will need to rally to defeat the socialist-gimmedat coalition. I am appalled at the fratricide. That goes for Trump's Don Rickles routine as well as for the cheap shots now being taken by some of the collapsing candidates. I understand that too many consultants will play dirty down to their clients' last dollar, but candidates who keep their fire focused on the Democrats win points in my book.
Righteous Anger burns FOREVER.
Excellent! At least Doberman was a nice guy.
That was directed at all the loud voices. I just happened to pick you since you were the first on the page. I have some issues with Erickson, and I was furious at him during the whole Redstate/Trump disinvited fiasco.
In all he’s a strong opponent to the corrupt political consultant class and I still read many of his articles. This one and a few recently are quite fair to Trump. Most of the Redstate crew are over the top wacko in their Trump hate. I’ve all but ignored them at this stage. Erickson is still a voice I pay attention to because he generally has a pretty good instinct on the political environment.
I understand and apologize if I’ve said anything untoward to you but I still maintain there is absolutely nothing in the words by Erick (even conciliatory at this state now that he’s seen his stock go down) worth consideration IMO. I’ve already formed my opinion of him and it isn’t good, frankly.
If that is the case I would like to see that level of intelligence put into Trump elaborating on his plan and policies. And less on vicious attacks on people that are on his side.
His true enemies are the Dems and GOPe, not conservatives and tea party people.
