~The FReeper Canteen Presents~

Road Trip: Naval Support Activity Panama City, Florida

The United States Naval Support Activity Panama City (NSA PC), is located just outside Panama City, Florida and is a United States Navy military base. It is located within Bay County. Among other commands, it houses Naval Surface Warfare Center Panama City Division (NSWC PCD) and the Navy Experimental Diving Unit (NEDU).

The NSA Panama City was founded as the U.S. Navy Mine Countermeasures Station on 20 July 1945, as a result of the transfer of the test station from Solomons, Maryland, but was renamed in 1955 to the U.S. Navy Mine Defense Laboratory.

In 1972, it was renamed the Naval Coastal Systems Laboratory which changed to Naval Coastal Systems Center in 1981.

The base has been a subsidiary of several other commands in the past including Naval Surface Warfare Center Carderock Division, and Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division, under which it was designated Naval Surface Warfare Center: Coastal Systems Station.

It obtained its current name in 2007 after changing from the prior command structure to the tenant command structure used by the Navy today in its command of research and development centers.

In addition to waterfront port facilities, the installation also contains a hangar and a paved heliport facility approximately 300 feet by 400 feet in size to accommodate naval helicopters up to and including the MH-53E Sea Dragon.

Having her close by is a huge plus. No way to get there in a hurry when something went wrong.

Where she is, she’ll have her independence but there’s someone there to keep tabs on things and help when needed. Win win. :-)

Nope, I missed the 50. Still plugging away at copying the email chains between Dad and me into Word docs to save on a CD. Wasn’t paying close enough attention and it was snagged before I realized it. LOL!

She and my Mom are having a really good visit.

Today sis got a good dose of the hallucinations that my Mom has. We are pretty sure she has Charles Bonnet Syndrome. At this age we have no plan for any testing, but the symptoms fit and she is good with reading for herself. Elderly folks with hearing loss and macular degeneration can have CBS. She knows she has the symptoms and despite really “seeing” workers in the back yard, working there for months, she accepts that they are hallucinations.

She hears lots of singing, but I never do, and sis didn’t either.

Thankfully the main road for me is mostly dry. They are moving our office to a big mall, around a skating rink, on the 4th floor, that has had shooting incidents, and will be at least 3 times as far for me. I am NOT pleased, nor is anyone in our department.

Sounds like a really nice place if she wants to enjoy it.

It was probably interesting to her to open and go thru her boxes.

Glad you were able to get home without much trouble. The 4th Ave. cam shows a slick-looking street. Oof!

That office move doesn’t sound good! Why on earth would they want to move to an area like that????
And being so much farther away will make it harder for you if you need to rush home to deal with anything that comes up with your mom. Not a good situation all the way ‘round, is it?

They had already eaten, but everything was laid out for taco salad...it was yummy, and tonight I will get some of the leftovers ready to take to work tomorrow.

I’m thinking it’s not good at all for me. And the answer is money.

Ever since the “ice skating to work” day, we talk about how to get to different places without hills, or curves, etc. Someone brought up the security issue...they said they would look into the security company being there to walk the women to their cars in the dark. I am not pleased. And the parking lot is not flat.

It certainly doesn’t sound good for you in any way.

Considering it gets dark up there so early these days, having security walk the women to their cars is a good idea. May be a good idea no matter if it’s dark or light. The neighborhood sounds like a rough one.

Ummmmmm, we’d certainly appreciate it if y’all would drag the cold weather back up there. LOL!
It’s colder here than it is in Anchorage!

Whew! Yeah, still dark plenty early in March. I hope y’all ride herd on whoever is supposed to talk to the security company to make sure they arrange something for y’all.

14 and still falling here. BRRRRRRRRRR! It was 16 just a few minutes ago.
This old house isn’t well-insulated and I’m about to put on my long-johns. The heaters can only do so much without being on non-stop. Can’t do that so we just layer up.

I’m ready for Spring!

LOL! It’ll take all of them to keep my Chilly Willy self warm. My parents would call me Chilly Willemina during winter after that silly cartoon character because I was always cold.
Where’s a hot flash when it would come in handy?
