Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad (R) said Monday that the birthplace of Sen. Ted Cruz is "fair game," adding to a growing chorus questioning whether the Texas Republican's Canadian birth could affect his ability to secure the GOP presidential nomination.
"When you run for president of the United States, any question is fair game. So let the people decide," Branstad told reporters Monday.
Cruz, speaking to reporters in Baton Rouge, La., noted that Branstad's son has thrown his support elsewhere, hosting fundraisers for New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie.

Easy now.
I’d love to support either Ted or Donald for POTUS.
The acrimony between political camps at Free Republic is downright assinine (sp) and stupid.
We all want a BIG Wall with Mexico.
We all want to cancel ObamaCare.
We all want to scrap the Iran Deal.
We all want to rebuild the U.S. Military.
We all want to ship Syrian Islamic Terrorist Refugees back to the Middle East.
We all want to protect the Second Amendment.
Need I continue ?
.
I don’t believe so. There’s little room in politics for grudges. Trump as POTUS and a friend like Cruz in the Senate to help with the judicial picks is a powerful combination.
I know we see grudges all the time, but that s because most of the time we re looking at the little men and little women.
Trump and Cruz are neither.
You’re free to rally where you want. I believe “The Donald” is nuts.
disgusting
No we should support Cruz, at least Christians should
Same thing with John McCain, born into a military family on a US base in Panama. Automatic natural-born citizen.
ON, NTSA
Theyâre just raising âdoubtsâ and âconcerns.â In other words, they are just slime artists.
No more slimy than “Trump is a NY Liberal.” If you’re going to dish it out you better be ready take it, IMO. They’re not competing for a boy scout merit badge here.
Doesn’t need cover. He did nothing wrong.
Branstad is a revered figure in Iowa and has not endorsed a candidate. This is a devastating hit to Cruz’s campaign, IMO.
Natural born to be eligible to be President of the United States per the Constitution. It is not settled law. If it were, we would have never had the Chester A. Arthur controversy, Obama’s place of birth issue, or the Senate feeling the necessity to issue a non-biding resolution in 2008 finding McCain eligible to run.
Branstad is hoping to revive Chris Christie, not acting to help Trump. Take it to the bank.
Oh my. This won’t help the mental stability of some here.
There is no clock to run out. You can claim citizenship at any age as long as the conditions are met for derivative citizenship.
While I think that it would be unfair for Ted Cruz to be prohibited from being president because of where he was born, I fully agree that it’s a salient issue that must be resolved. I think he needs to go to court and sort it out.
No thanks.
Is that a bashing? Seems like an open statement.
Any question is fair game.
It is just a matter of if the question hurts the questioner more than the questionee.
[ For me, it is the melding of cultures that makes Cruzâ natural born citizenship suspicious. ]
Cruz spent a majority of his childhood in the United States and the “First World”, While Obama spent it in “Turd World” Indonesia during the rise of radical Islamism in Indonesia.
The founders intent was for someone growing up in the country and loving the country they grew up in.
Obama was certainly not of that intent, he loathes the country he is president of.
Iâm beginning to suspect that the Establishment has made their peace with The Donald,
and that’s scary.
“Iâm standing with Ted Cruz ...”
I’m cruising with Ted!
