Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad (R) said Monday that the birthplace of Sen. Ted Cruz is "fair game," adding to a growing chorus questioning whether the Texas Republican's Canadian birth could affect his ability to secure the GOP presidential nomination.
"When you run for president of the United States, any question is fair game. So let the people decide," Branstad told reporters Monday.
Cruz, speaking to reporters in Baton Rouge, La., noted that Branstad's son has thrown his support elsewhere, hosting fundraisers for New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie.

Arthur, to be natural born one must be able to produce a clear allegiance to America. Being born on foreign soil is a problem in itself, but coupled with the fact that his Father is Cuban muddies the water even more. If Cruz’ Mother could confer citizenship (and thus loyalty and allegiance) to the USA through her American citizenship . . one must assume that Cruz’ Dad could confer citizenship (and thus loyalty and allegiance) to Cuba through his Cuban citizenship. For me, it is the melding of cultures that makes Cruz’ natural born citizenship suspicious. This is the very same issue we had with Obama . . and I think it has been borne out to be conflicting to him to have two cultures dominating his allegiance and loyalty to America. Don’t we have any other candidate who was clearly born on American soil who is qualified to be our President? Of course we do. We don’t have to settle for another President who obviously has issues due to his spurious birth situation.
The original meaning, born here of citizen parents, has been morphed to “born a citizen”.
The change does make anchor babies eligible, along with Winston Churchill and Ted Cruz and Obama.
The original definition was intended to protect us from foreign influence. If one could be considered anything other than an American at birth, one cannot be a natural born citizen.
Why would you call that hate? When you do that it sounds just like what homosexuals say when you don't agree with them. Say...are you one of those log-cabin republicans? I thought one of your previous posts was ...well fabulously fashionable.
Are both of your parents American citizens? If so, your case is totally different from Cruz. If a Mother can confer citizenship, allegiance and loyalty to her birth country . . one would assume the Father does the same. We have to take into consideration that Rafael, Sr. was a Cuban citizen so just as naturally as Cruz’ Mother gave him HER birth citizenship . . wouldn’t Cruz’ Father have automatically done the same? Or is the Father not as important as the Mother? Since Biblical times, the Father’s bloodline has held a lot of authority over how the Son was to be considered.
“Why would you call that hate?”
Because it ignores the massive positive contributions DT has made over his lifetime. Thousands are working right now because of him.
“When you do that it sounds just like what homosexuals say..”
Homos don’t have the word “hate” copyrighted. If it’s a trigger word for you, then substitute “negativity.” I’ll try my best to make FR a safe place for you.
“Say...are you one of those log-cabin republicans? I thought one of your previous posts was ...well fabulously fashionable.”
Ad Hominem: Attack the person rather than the argument.
Meanwhile, Obama is still eligible and in office....
“Meanwhile, Obama is still eligible and in office....”
And an approved Cruz would forever legitimize Obama’s precedence.
Trump has spent less than 10% of what Ted has.
That is because he is frugal spending his own money.
I am starting to guess that Trump is going to have the IOWA Gov. Terry Branstad as his special guest at the rally tomorrow in Iowa.
That would certainly help as much as endorsements could. Most times even someone as popular as Branstad’s endorsement wouldn’t change to polls much. But, Branstads state organization could help Trump who isn’t anywhere near as well organized as Cruz is for the Caucus.
I can’t wait to see if I am reading the Tea Leaves right.
But you still didn't answer the question about being a log-cabin type, not that there is anything wrong with that.
LOL....Trump doesn’t need to waste his hard earned money.
I think you’ve got that confused with PAC $$, which Trump doesn’t have because he’s NOT owned, that OTHER candidates throw around.

Those are issues their candidate cannot run and hide from.
No matter how much they spew :) It’s called deflection and it’s all they’ve got!
Go Trump!!
Could very well be. It certainly wouldn’t hurt, that’s for sure.
“I am standing with Ted.”
“I will ride Ted to defeat.” There, I fixed it for you.
I am sorry, but Ted would have been the VP and now he won’t. In fact, he won’t get any position in the Trump Presidency. That ship sailed long ago.
First Huckabee, then Christie, Santorum and now Branstad, all going after Cruz.
Anyone not named Cruz is GOPe to Cruz supporters at this point? Cruz isn’t more conservative than Huckabee nor Santorum in reality. Cruz is a Bush disciple
See what happens when you don’t kiss the ethanol ring?
If I am right this could really make Cruz explode.
He snapped at some people last week a sure sign he got in hot water for his New York City values remark.
Cruz made a tepid apology, but reading the remarks here on Freerepublic from his supporters, Cruz has not convinced them to STFU, and its still hurting Cruz.
Like I said my wife and I hoped a Cruz Trump ticket could come from them getting along. That blew up for my wife with the New York City values attack Cruz apologized for.
My wife doesn’t buy that the Apology wasn’t more of the same. While we are very conservative, I supported Nute last time, she like Santorum. We know lots of libs as family and friends, and even thought their bleeding heart misguided views are not our thinking, it doesn’t make them evil people.
Tip O’neill and Ronald Reagan worked together and Washington today doesn’t work because we have a Republican bashing President who never sought a consensus in congress.
I guess I don’t like Mc Turdle any more than Cruz does, but Cruz has to learn how to cajole and persuade, and how to lead and increase his support and marginalize Mc Turdle so Cruz can get the outcome we all want. You got to be smart how you play your cards.
Or kiss the gas and oil companies.
That was a bunch of nonsensical commentary.
Whatever it was that you meant to say, Ted Cruz is not a natural born citizen and he is not eligible for POTUS. Ted Cruz is a U.S. citizen naturalized at birth by the authority of the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Act of 1952. That makes Ted Cruz a naturalized U.S. citizen, which by definition is not and can never be a natural born citizen by any stretch of the imagination. Just as Arnold Schwarzenegger is not eligible as POTUS because he is a naturalized U.S. citizen, so too is Ted Cruz ineligible as POTUS because he too is a naturalized U.S. citizen.
