Donald Trump unloaded on Sen. Ted Cruz, saying, "I'd do the public a big favor" by suing Cruz over his eligibility to be president.
-snip-
Stephanopoulos then said, "But you know, the person who sued him probably doesn't have standing, a lot of legal scholars-." Trump interrupted, saying, "That's all right. There will be a lot of people who sue him who do have standing."
"Say you have standing, why don't you file the case," Stephanopoulos asked. Trump responded, "Oh that's an interesting case. Wow that sounds like a very good case. I'd do the public a big favor."
-snip-
Stephanopoulos then asked Trump if he was going to put his money where his mouth is, and Trump said, "Well it's a good idea. Maybe I'll talk to them about it. I'd like to talk to Ted about it, see how he'd feel about it. Cause you know, when I file suits, I file real suits okay."

There isn't any way to do that. Keep in mind that States elect Presidents - not citizens. So this cannot be settled until either a State puts Cruz's name on a ballot, or a State refuses to put Cruz's name on a ballot. It is how judicial law works. Cruz knows this. Grayson knows it, too. The only one ignorant of this is Donald Trump.
Outstanding point. And while SCOTUS, and Congress, and the press may be trying to lead us down the primrose path bay pointing at each other to settle the question, we can ask them to settle it outside the formal process. I've called my Senators and Rep asking them to mail me a letter in response, after they read Rogers v. Bellei. We can try to get talking heads to ask the question, we can push on GOP officials to answer the question, etc.
That doesn't happen when the target is charismatic and appealing, and especially when he is not forthcoming with "Born Abroad."
The people ought to royally pissed for being played.
-People are openly discussing how unpopular Cruz is with his peers. It seems to be common knowledge in DC and itâs why no one in the Senate is coming to his defense-
I wonder why though ? They are all back stabbers, it’s a vipers nest. What makes Cruz so different ?
You must be kidding..any muck he gets hit with comes from him slinging it!!
It's rock-solid precedent. You done good, for a non-lawyer.
No he didn’t. He said he’d like to TALK TO TED about it.
Like who? McConnell?, Ryan? McCain? Come on man, that is a badge of honor in this day and age. He has the right friends though!
‘Cruz and Trump may both be smart and patriotic enough to work together behind the scenes’
I wish this were so, but I think you are imputing this. Trump has convinced himself he ‘hates’ Cruz.
The vitriol in Trump tweets is too intense. According to Levin, only a damaged party like Lindsey Graham has standing to sue. Not Trump ( at this point ) nor Grayson has standing.
While you are right, the burden of proof is inverted in election cases, using that as a claok makes it look like you are hiding something. This is a legitimate question, and the answer renders Cruz unqualified. If the answer was in his favor, he would say more than "this is settled law" and hope you trust him.
Someone isn’t anti-conservative just because they aren’t the most conservative. Trump is quite conservative in many aspects. he just isn’t the evangelical’s guy so that makes him public enemy #1 to a lot of people.
I would think that Trump does have standing. Cruz is possibly running a fraudulent campaign that Trump is running for the same position. I hope Trump sues. This will finally rid us of a horrible candidate in Cruz.

Actually, napscoordinator, if TRUMP (PEACE BE UPON HIM) does sue, he risks a quick summary judgement that would get rid of the only issue (as ridiculous and silly as it is) that Trump has. Therefore, the likelihood of him doing that anytime soon is pretty remote.
May let it fly. You know Trump would put together an A Team of legal eagles.
********************************************************************************
Who would, with near certainty, drag it (i.e., an actual decision) out as long as possible with delaying tactics.
Do you think he's really a conservative?
I don't think he is. I think he's saying what he believes conservatives want to hear and he sure seems to be successful at it, but deep down he supports NY values. The leftist NY values crowd look down their noses at Born Again Christians that are pro-life, pro family, pro 2nd amendment and anti big govt.
His attack on Cruz is no different than all his other attacks of candidates. He attacks the person. He lies about the person. He never attacks the issues that person supports. I used to think I would vote for him if Cruz wasn't the nominee, no more.
It's a lesson in propaganda and manipulation of public perception.
If anybody is REALLY interested in a little “light” reading on the subject, the so called “birthers” rely on a book that is KNOWN to have strongly influenced the drafters of the Constitution, Emer de Vattel’s “Law of Nations”. Pay particular attention to Sections 212, 213 and 214. I think this will answer any questions and educate you on what everybody is talking about when they say “Born ON THE LAND to TWO [already] citizen parents.” The book is available free on the internet at http://lf-oll.s3.amazonaws.com/titles/2246/Vattel_1519_LFeBk.pdf . In my opinion, after extensive research, is that Cruz has a problem, as do Rubio, Jindal [if he’d stayed in the race) and probably Santorum, as one or both of their respective parents had not completed the US naturalization process at the time of their births. Bring it on - but please read the relevant sections of the book (they’re pretty short) before you launch the rotten fruits and veggies at me!!
Why would you visit a site built to promote the discussion of different points of views if you are not willing to be convinced that your current position may require adjustment?
I have read it. (I have also been regularly following and posting on The Last Refuge, a/k/a The Conservative Treehouse for several years.) It is a very well researched article and one reason why I am keeping an open mind. However, Sundance (who posted the article on The Last Refuge) is a very vocal and unabashed Trump supporter. I am not convinced.
For the opposing viewpoint, read: https://www.commentarymagazine.com/politics-ideas/campaigns-elections/donald-trump-not-conservative/ or http://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2015/07/donald-trump-running-for-president/398345/
They all know it. I know it. You know it. And if the staunch Cruz supporters don't eventually realize it, then they should be under suspicion as trolls. They may not admit it publicly later on, but the ones who are genuine will know it.
But today, right in the middle of realizing Cruz's foolishness, it's understandable that Cruz backers are mad. I'M a Cruz supporter, and I'm pissed! It would help if Trump people can try to understand that and just let them vent. Cruz has done a very selfish thing to all of us by not handling this matter before running. He KNOWS it's not settled law. He KNEW this would come up, yet he was willing to jeopardize the election and the very survival of our country because HE wants to be President! (Like i said; I'm very angry at him right now. I'm from Texas and I feel very betrayed.)
Any true FReeper knows this election will be our last if the UniParty wins and pushes through amnesty. Within a few months, only an idiot or a paid troll will not "see it," especially as the RNC continues stabbing Trump in the back at the convention and beyond, trying to get their designated RINO in there somehow.
Right now, it's a little hard to tell the difference between the paid trolls and the genuine conservatives. Give it a few months and they'll stick out quite plainly. Then we can play Whack-A-Mole. lol!
Talk is cheap Donald Chump. I dare you. You won’t because like every bully, you really are a wuss.
Donald Trump is spending lots of time and money campaigning against TEd Cruz. If Cruz is ineligible, Trump’s time and money is being stolen from him. He should have standing. Seems like George Stephanopolous (sp?) acknowledged that. I think a judge would be VERY hard-pressed to say that Trump has no injury if his money is being wasted campaigning against somebody who is ineligible.
