Giuliani: Cruz owes New York an apology
The Hill ^ | January 15, 2016 | Rebecca Savransky

Rudy Giuliani on Friday said Ted Cruz should apologize to New York City for attacking its "values" in the presidential race.

"After all we have been through as a city and as one undivided nation, to have a United States senator running for President paint New York as a city consumed with greed, sin and media obsession is shocking," Giuiani, who has not made an endorsement in the 2016 race, wrote in the New York Daily News.

"Sen. Ted Cruz should apologize to the people of New York for his remarks and to the people of the United States for his crass attempt to divide us."

Giuliani, a former mayor of New York City who made an unsuccessful run for the White House in 2008, joins a growing list of figures pushing back against the Texas senator.

Cruz this week said Republican voters should reject Donald Trump and the "New York values" he embodies, such as support for abortion rights and same-sex marriage.

Even Hillary Clinton backed Trump on Friday, tweeting that "New Yorkers value hard work, diversity, tolerance, resilience, and building better lives for our families."

A spokeswoman for the senator defended the statement on Friday, saying the country must not become like liberal Manhattan.

Trump rebuked Cruz for the attack during the GOP debate on Thursday while recalling how his home city responded to the 9/11 attacks.

"When the World Trade Center came down, I saw something that no place on Earth could have handled more beautifully, more humanely than New York," Trump said.

Giuliani, who was mayor at the time of the attacks, said New York should be proud of Trump, who delivered a "strong, truthful and eloquent defense of our great city and nation."

Agology? I thought New Yorkers were tough.

(Ted should've said "downstate New York values." Much more precise and accurate!)

You might be forgetting that most of those people probably left New York for all the reasons Ted Cruz described in his “New York values” comment.”

You may be overlooking there are so many great people who will tell you they are NYers. I have two neighbors who grew up there - who vote republican - and will proudly tell you they are NYers.

Ted screwed the pooch.

I'll be they are on Ted's side on this one.

"sorry.....I don't type nearly as well as I cogitate"

That's ok - just wanted to make sure. Thanks.

I thought New Yorkers were so blasé they laughed off stuff like this.

Sounds like they are a bunch of liberal babies who need safe space.

If Cruz owes New York an apology, than so does Trump for declaring that his support of ultra liberal policies is because he comes from New York and are New York values.

Apologize, Donald!

That is true. Some may not be aware that both Cruz’ parents abused alcohol. (Certainly not a knock on the kids, by any stretch, but adults who were raised in alcoholic environments do tend to have issues. (I’ve had some personal experience in this area. It can be devastating.)) Also just today I learned that Cruz has three living and one deceased half sisters. This is not a family we know all that well, at this point.

Prayers for all concerned. It cannot have been easy.

I’m surprised Vermont is not on the list. I read Bernie was from either the Bronx or Brooklyn.

Trump could very well turn out to be like Michael Bloomberg.

Why do you think those people left New York?

And your candidate’s 3RD WIFE was a NUDE MODEL. Do you really want to play the morality game here?

I am not the one initiating personal garbage on the candidates.

In any case, Cruz has no control over his parents actions, versus Donald Trump's, action in his personal life which in his case speaks for itself.

You proved your cluelessness with your first post. There’s no need to underscore the point.
