Rudy Giuliani on Friday said Ted Cruz should apologize to New York City for attacking its "values" in the presidential race.
"After all we have been through as a city and as one undivided nation, to have a United States senator running for President paint New York as a city consumed with greed, sin and media obsession is shocking," Giuiani, who has not made an endorsement in the 2016 race, wrote in the New York Daily News.
"Sen. Ted Cruz should apologize to the people of New York for his remarks and to the people of the United States for his crass attempt to divide us."
Giuliani, a former mayor of New York City who made an unsuccessful run for the White House in 2008, joins a growing list of figures pushing back against the Texas senator.
Cruz this week said Republican voters should reject Donald Trump and the "New York values" he embodies, such as support for abortion rights and same-sex marriage.
Even Hillary Clinton backed Trump on Friday, tweeting that "New Yorkers value hard work, diversity, tolerance, resilience, and building better lives for our families."
A spokeswoman for the senator defended the statement on Friday, saying the country must not become like liberal Manhattan.
Trump rebuked Cruz for the attack during the GOP debate on Thursday while recalling how his home city responded to the 9/11 attacks.
"When the World Trade Center came down, I saw something that no place on Earth could have handled more beautifully, more humanely than New York," Trump said.
Giuliani, who was mayor at the time of the attacks, said New York should be proud of Trump, who delivered a "strong, truthful and eloquent defense of our great city and nation."
Trump is dangerously close to a mullet in that pic.
Just posted on that thread. There is nothing hypocritical about Cruz raising money from anyone who wants to support him. Cruz has never changed or hidden his social conservatism so if someone that he disagrees with on one issue wants to support him because they agree on another issue there is nothing wrong with that.
-How come obama didnât have to apologize calling folks in PA âBitter clingers to their guns and Bibles?â-
He apologized by calling his grandma a racist.
I tell my kids sometimes you have to choose:
You can be right,
or you can get what you want.
Sometimes you have to pick your fights to get to your goal. Cruz picked the wrong fight this time.
Ugh, that’s hard to look at without retching. But you’re absolutely right. Pro-abortion, pro-queer, anti-gun New York “values” can go straight to hell.
"Wait a minute. He was onstage Thursday, bashing New York City and gay marriage. But on Monday, he was in Manhattan begging for money from married gay people?"
I really think Trump has got him on the ropes. And you know he's not going to let up.
And Ted was Kissing his Gay donors.
New Yorkers think that New York is the center of the universe. It’s not.
I highly doubt this. The average man in Iowa knows who is defending socially conservative Iowa values and who is defending socially liberal New York values. Sorry, but your dog wont hunt.
Ted’s memory is perfect, but he another FEC reporting ommission he FORGOT to report. That is troublesome.
Wonder how the honest people of IOWA are going to react to all this begging for money, kissing gay donors, taking hedge fund donations and forgetting to make FEC reports?
Oh yeah! ...Our Type Not Welcome.
Cruz’ parents are divorced?
This New York, New York, thingy was sparked by an interview Trump did with the late Tim Russert. Which I remember watching then tunning out by changing channels in disgust. When during this interview Trump went through his list articulating and defending liberal positions originating by NY eastern libs claiming, that he, Trump as a New Yorker, proudly supports.
The tactic to missdirect Cruz s effort of reminding voters of Trump defending those lib positions taken by Trump into remarks of criticisms of New Yorkers or 911 might work with the LIVs. But will they be participating in the Iowa caucuses?
As far as Rudy is concerned;
Because it was under threat of questioning and possible impeachment proceedings by its so called political opposition the regime needed to defer or stop any movement toward this. It was necessary to use a political device usually atrributed to Saul Alinsky but used by the nazi and commies like Stalin with the Kulacks through racial division.
Through the use of The Bully Pulpit It created persons engaged in felonious assults on authority who were black youths into; Victims of an evil society (thus approving their actions) out of whole cloth.
The regime began with the Zimmerman case which resulted in a series of assults by black youths on completely innocent whites, hispanics, and asians who were either targeted or wandered near or through black gang infested areas.
The perpetators excuse; The reported; Cold blood killing of Treyvon Martin because he was black
It led to a score or more deaths and serious injuries which were treated as local news ignored and forgotten. And it was met with silence while this was happening. Neither the locqatious POTUS nor his political opposition uttered as much as a; Now!,Now! or a tsk!,tsk.
And that includes Guiliani....
Anyone offended by Cruz’s NY values comment has NY values. No one with these values would vote for Cruz anyway....so it won’t hurt him that way. It does give the mediawhores and their pimp (trump) something to go after Cruz with.....anything to avoid a discussion about issues.
Cruz’ parents divorced in ‘97.
Obviously! LOL!!!
He was not referring to 9-11.
Everyone outside NY knows EXACTLY what he meant by New York and it wasn't 9-11.
Besides, there were many first responders that were not from NY.
The FEC has not ruled yet that the omission of those loans was a violation. They were personal loans secured with personal assets, not loans made to his campaign. The campaign was not required to pay the loans back.
At most, an amended filing could be required, but at this point, that hasn’t been determined.
You mean, Trump?
sorry.....I don’t type nearly as well as I cogitate
