As someone who spends a fair amount of time reading conservative media and a fair amount of time reading about film, I was struck by an odd coincidence last week. On January 6, both the Weekly Standard and National Review Online published reviews of the new Michael Bay movie about the terrorist attack on America's diplomatic compounds in Benghazi, "13 Hours." Around this time, nationally syndicated radio host Hugh Hewitt mentioned that he had seen it; a few days later, he wrote about it for the Washington Examiner.
Noting the synchronicity (as well as the fact that these conservative outlets were given screening opportunities and review embargoes well ahead of the mainstream press) and mentally filing it away, I thought no more of it. Until a couple of days later, that is, when an advertisement for the film ran during the NFL playoffs. It didn't jump out at me at first--TV spots for "13 Hours" are more or less ubiquitous right now--until the pull quotes started coming up. "A cinematic masterpiece" raved -- Weekly Standard senior writer and Fox News contributor Steve Hayes? Praise from Hugh Hewitt was also quoted, as were kind words from Fox News's Megyn Kelly. Most movies have these kind of blurbs, of course, but they're sourced to movie critics, not conservative pundits.
Needless to say, this was rather unusual. But it is indicative of the lengths that Paramount is going to in order to reach conservative audiences who might be interested in Bay's new film.
I talked to four people who attended three separate screenings of "13 Hours" last week. All of them are involved in the conservative media (and all asked to talk on background so as not to alienate those who invited them to the screenings),

Didn't Mel Gibson's movie on Christ do extremely well at the box office. Oh, and American Sniper and so many others. Conservative appeal in films is a money maker but Hollywood and the media would rather promote ideology than be fair and balanced.
Money talks and there isn’t any more greedy than the government than hollywood elitists.
” Weekly Standard senior writer and Fox News contributor Steve Hayes? Praise from Hugh Hewitt was also quoted, as were kind words from Fox News’s Megyn Kelly.”
Did any conservatives review it ?
When the American dream and “real” Americans are under attack and being targeted, entertainment has little choice.
“Where have you gone Joe Damaggio?”
“Joltin Joe has left and gone away”
Hey, Hey Hey!
Interesting.
Not sure Star Wars would have done well if Han Solo had died of lack of medical care due to mismanagement and inability to pay the deductible.
So the TRUTH only appeals to conservatives? Jus sayin’!
Only conservatives?
If there is anyone can stomach that idea -- then they don't deserve to be called Americans.
I certainly hope this goes mainstream like American Sniper. Then at least Independents will see the film.
Is it acknowledgment of conservatives or acknowledgment of actual events?
Bay’s The Island was very pro life
Michael Bay also produces “the Lost Ship” which has a lot of patriotic and conservative messages in it. It also has the Hollywood conservative Adam Baldwin as one of the leads.
I think Michael Bay is a “Secret Hollywood Conservative” so the fact that he made 13 hours doesn’t surprise me in the least.
[ Bayâs The Island was very pro life ]
I think Bay is a secret hollywood conservative
Haven’t seen it but hear it never mentioned Hilliary or Obama’s part in this treason.
i am stunned they got actors to participate in this film.
“Republicans consider âLoyalty/Betrayalââwhich âunderlies virtues of patriotism and self-sacrifice for the groupââto be a very important value. Democrats, not so much.”
“conservatives canât stomach the idea of brave Americans being left to fight and die because weak-kneed or oblivious bureaucrats refused to send in air support.”
This explains the difference between Givers and Takers. There will always be those who take and give nothing in return. These are those who sat in the Situation Room of the White Hut and did nothing. All that while many readied a response and rescue they were not allowed to give.
Sadly, Libtardians will ignore the sacrifice and honor of these men. They will ignore its implications and support The Butcher of Benghazi, and her willingness to leave Stevens and his group flapping in the wind.
