New York Rep. Peter King had some sharp words for Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz on Thursday, in the wake of the Texas senator's attempt to criticize Donald Trump.
Cruz, who had been playing nice with Trump for much of the campaign, recently attempted to disparage the real estate mogul by accusing him of possessing "New York values." The attack came after Trump raised questions over the Canadian-born Cruz's ability to serve as president.
Trump "may shift in his new rallies to playing 'New York New York,' because you know Donald comes from New York and he embodies New York values," Cruz said Tuesday on "The Howie Carr Show" on Boston-based WRKO.
King, a Republican, had a pointed response for Cruz.
"Memo to Ted Cruz: New York Values are the heroes of 9/11; the cops who fight terror; and the people you ask for campaign donations. Go back under a rock," King said in a statement to CNN Thursday.
Trump has also cited 9/11 as an example of why "New York values" are something to be proud of, rather than a turn-off for voters.
"New York is an amazing place with amazing people," Trump said on Bloomberg's "With All Due Respect." "We took a big hit with the World Trade Center -- worst thing ever, worst attack ever in the United States, worse than Pearl Harbor because they attacked civilians, they attacked people having breakfast and frankly if you would've been there and if you would've lived through that like I did with New York people -- the way they handled that attack was one of the most incredible things that anybody has ever seen."

I wish the ultimate RINO King would crawl under a rock. The problem is that if the Republicans hold onto King’s seat, they’d replace him with another RINO.
Congratulations.
You were the first contestant and you beat Trump at stringing together a sentence.
You win a lifetime supply of Trump flavored Kool Aid.
The NY values play is smart for Cruz and Trump. Attacking NY works for Cruz since he knows he has no chance of winning there. It also signals that he is against extreme liberalism and corruption. Defending NY works for Trump since he is a NYer and at least has a small chance of winning there.
If Cruz had referenced ‘San Francisco values’ or ‘Hollywood’ values everyone would nod their head. Or does Pete contend that NYC is actually representative of American values?
You have to have lived in New York to understand and appreciate what Cruz said.
The conservative audience knows what Cruz means by New York values. In the same way San Francisco values doesn’t mean a slam on Thomas Sowell, New York values is not meant to be a slam on 9/11 responders. All but dishonest people know it.
I love New York, both the state and the city.
We have vacationed in several areas of New York. It’s beautiful.
Cruz is an idiot.
.
“and the people you ask for campaign donations”...ouch.
RE: âand the people you ask for campaign donationsâ...ouch.
WHY OUCH? Did Cruz ask for campaign donations from non-conservatives?
Some years ago a sort of New York everyman put median New Yorker values on display for all to see.
People who have never been to New York City thought this was a caricature. People who have had to go there recognized it as a perfect representation.
Iâll take my chances voting for someone outside of Texas this time thanks.
Haven't you been paying attention? They say Cruz is a Canadian, how much further outside Texas do you want?
Now nobody start attacking me OR agreeing either, that's sarcasm plain and simple!
No reason for King to say anything. What Trump said was great and put Cruz in his place immediately. Trump was beautiful in his response. King is just being stupid and is late to the game anyway.
I'm from MA and I know what "Massachusetts values" are: Liberal.
Why is Pete taking offense? Unless...
I can't speak for NY, but in Boston the entire city "sheltered in place" for 48 hours.
And when Speedbump and Flash-bang were apprehended, everyone wore "Boston Strong" t-shirts.
I am pretty sure King is referring to Goldman Sachs, so ouch in terms of kinda showing a little hypocrisy from Ted. BTW, do you have a list of his donors? Do you know for sure they are all conservatives?
+1.
RE: BTW, do you have a list of his donors? Do you know for sure they are all conservatives?
One can never be sure if all one’s donors are conservative. Some might even have ulterior motives.
If one donates to a SuperPac, you won’t even know every single one who is donating.
Cruz had to return the donation of one donor after it was discovered he had KKK sympathies.
Peter King has transformed himself into a nasty, shoot from the hip politician. Perhaps he has always been one but was able to hide his faults.
I think that New York’s values are the same as the rest of the country, it is ATTITUDE that makes them open to criticism.
Amazing, how a Presidential Election Primary battle can bring out regional prejudices.

lol. It totally backfired. Cruz is NOT having a good week. Tonight is going to be HELL for him. He better be ready. His so called strong debate skills had better be on display because so far there has been zero proof of them.
RE: Cruz was educated at Princeton and Harvard. Guess he didn’t have trouble with those not a country boy attitudes when he was getting his education.
He went there to learn THE LAW. And he passed with flying colors without being tainted by the liberal slant of a lot of his professors ( see Lawrence Tribe and Alan Dersowtiz ).
One can be in Babylon yet not be influenced by Babylonian values ( see Daniel and his friends ).
