Donald Trump took his front-running campaign for the Republican presidential nomination to Pensacola, Fla., on Wednesday night. And, holy cow, did people come out in droves to see him.
Here's a photo of the crowd taken by WaPo's own Jenna Johnson.
*snip*
Trump's campaign claimed it gave out 20,000 tickets; the arena holds 11,500 people. According to Jenna's reporting, there were "at least 11,000" in attendance and "several thousand more were turned away."
Large crowds are the rule, not the exception, at this point for Trump. He had 8,000 people in Lowell, Mass., earlier this month; more than 2,000 showed up in Burlington, Vt., -- not exactly a conservative enclave -- to hear Trump speak last week.
I've written a lot about crowd sizes this election and how they remain an uncertain indicator of actual support. But, Trump's ability to draw thousands and thousands of people to hear him speak this close to actual voting -- we are 19 days from the Iowa caucuses -- suggests to me that the enthusiasm and passion he has sparked among a certain segment of the GOP base isn't going anywhere any time soon.

[We wouldnât want the focus to slip toward Trump and the questions about his mental illness.]
Mental illness is repeating the same thing over and over, post after post, in every thread that you can.
Perhaps YOU are the one who needs the psych evaluation.
You know ambulance chasing libel lawyers take cases on consignment (i.e. they don't charge unless they win...no out of pocket to Trump). And you have provided some great evidence on this thread.
So keep up the good work.
“Iâm trying to help him out here, he could fix this real easily.”
Why not help yourself and others, and just go away...quietly.
ROFL!
Oh, I’m not saying Donald Trump is mentally ill. I never have. I never would. I’m not qualified to make the assessment that Donald Trump is mentally ill. I’m only saying the concern is out there.
Lol! You sir have perfected the art of concern trolling. Well done!
His sources are “Snap, Crackle and Pop”.
“BHO got the same kind of campaign reception, and the press swooned. Trump just gets derision.”
Well obviously none of these people are going to show up to vote. They are just there because they liked his TV show.
At least that’s what our “betters” keep trying to convince themselves that this is what’s happening.
Seriously, I learned from the best. I’ve tried to carefully craft every word through what I’ve learned from Donald Trump. Which is maybe why people assume that I’m the one that’s mentally ill.
Silly mongrel. Your joke fell flat and you’re still trying to prop it up....much like Jeb does.
Ronald Wilson Reagan was a Democrat before he was a Republican. I don’t think Mr Trump is a Socialist.
“Does the term âReagan Democratâ ring a bell?”
Are there any left? I haven’t encountered any Dems who are anything but left wing nuts, and I live in a conservative county.
Not a joke. Serious concerns are out there. Hope Donald can fix it so that people don’t think he’s mentally ill. We don’t want him spending all his time out there answering these questions rather than staying focused on the campaign.
Wow. What a crowd Rooster.
"Republicans are going to have to ask themselves the question: 'Do we want a candidate who could be tied up in court for two years?' That'd be a big problem....."It'd be a very precarious one for Republicans because he'd be running and the courts may take a long time to make a decision. You don't want to be running and have that kind of thing over your head."
And flipped it to feign "concerns" about Trump by sliding in the mental illness phrase?
Low energy.
Afraid to say 'Reagan democrats' aren't you. Afraid to admit folks want an 'America first' candidate.
The real establishment is the globalist cadre - flood the country with third worlders, ship jobs overseas. The establishment can tolerate a social conservative but they cannot tolerate an 'America first' candidate that they cannot control.
Cruz has dropped his religion in NH and has met with the establishment power brokers. The sellout is underway but too many social conservatives really will not care - he's their guy. Too many social conservatives will tolerate a 'call to prayer' blasted five times a day in their small towns as long as their favorite politician comforts them with his words.
In the end I will vote Ted Cruz if he is the only choice, but I will know right now what I am getting.
Trump ALWAYS sues when someone libels or slanders him. It sends a clear message to others...and doesn't cost him a dime.
That's one of the major points in "The Art of the Deal."
New York is full of slime ball lawyers just itching for libel suits. They'll probably get into a dog fight over your case.
You're about to become a very popular pooch.
