Horowitz: It's Beyond Time for A Cold-Eyed Look At Trump's Record
Conservative Review ^ | January 13, 2106 | Daniel Horowitz

Posted on 01/13/2016 5:50:38 PM PST by JSDude1

“You’ve convinced me [of the need to pass the Dream Act].” [NBC Latino, 8/22/13] "I hate the concept of it, but on a humanitarian basis with what’s happening, you have to [bring in Syrian refugees]." [Interview with Bill O’Reilly, 9/8/15]

Regarding Kim Davis: “Because we had a ruling from the Supreme Court and we are a country of laws and you have to do what the Supreme Court ultimately, whether you like the decision or not, and it was a 5-4 decision, whether you like the decision or not, you have to go along with the Supreme Court. That’s the way it is.” [Interview with Bill O’Reilly, 9/8/15]

These comments were not made by Jeb Bush who sits at 3% in the polls; they were made by Donald Trump, the front-runner for the GOP nomination.

After spending an entire week discussing the Cruz citizenship issue, can’t we have a debate over whether we’ve properly vetted the frontrunner on some of the critical issues facing our nation?

Everyone becomes an intrepid conservative convert on the road to Des Moines.

It is self-evident to anyone with a modicum of love for the Republic that this is an election our nation and party cannot get wrong. Following eight years of Obama’s fundamental transformation, the stakes are too high.

As someone who has vetted a number of congressional candidates who promised to be conservative but got sucked into the D.C. political vortex upon assuming office, I’ve seen that nobody runs in a primary as anything but a solid conservative. Everyone becomes an intrepid conservative convert on the road to Des Moines.

So, what is Trump's actual stand on healthcare? Aren't even the Trumpsters concerned about this?

Donald Trump: There's many different ways, by the way. Everybody's got to be covered. This is an un-Republican thing for me to say because a lot of times they say, "No, no, the lower 25 percent that can't afford private. But"

Scott Pelley: Universal health care.

Donald Trump: I am going to take care of everybody. I don't care if it costs me votes or not. Everybody's going to be taken care of much better than they're taken care of now.

Scott Pelley: The uninsured person is going to be taken care of. How? How?

Donald Trump: They're going to be taken care of. I would make a deal with existing hospitals to take care of people. And, you know what, if this is probably

Scott Pelley: Make a deal? Who pays for it?

Donald Trump: the government's gonna pay for it.

Writers of hit pieces on Trump seem to ignore that Trump has spoken as a private citizen not as an official with assigned decision making responsibilities. His private opinions are legitimately open to reconsideration to a degree that policy positions of elected officials are not. Nice try though.

Is single payer Trump’s campaign platform position?

It’s hard to comprehend what kind of silly game these “conservative purists” are playing, since they seldom get a candidate nominated, and never elected since Reagan.

When their heroes do get in, they generally betray (e.g., Rubio).

Trump is not exactly a Reagan conservative; I’ll grant that.

He is EXACTLY the force that is needed to fight for our nation today against the closet Marxists and globalists!

This takes nothing away from Cruz. I hope he is elected POTUS in 2024, after Trump has plowed the field for him.

Tell me what positions of these that Donald Trump has now repudiated, and I’ll believe him, as I would with Cruz if he changed his mind on a position.

It doesn’t matter. He is not to be scrutinized. All other candidates can be examined and found wanting. But not Trump.

I’ve never seen the likes of it.

Conservatives out for the blood of their allies again I see. (YAWN)...

Might want to talk to Trump about this kind of attack given his current attack on the eligibility of Cruz, since you probably BELIEVE he is a conservative

I guess we should have been willing to settle for Jethro Bush then.

We are so stupid.

Considering what options I have on the RINO list currently, he’s right at the top IMO. Either Cruz or Trump works for me.

I didn't find a position on his website and I haven't found where he's laid out a full position. He hints at this and that every now and then. He's mentioned something market based, but funded by the government.

But, the 60 Minutes interview and some older view are very concerning.

Can you point to something more definitive?

Yeah, really impressive with the total of zero delegates sewn up.

The inevitability talk needs to stop, it’s the same crap Hillary’s pushing. He may very well win, but it’s not written in the stars.

Cruz has not held different views. Cruz fought the gang of eight. Sessions said Cruz was with him fighting it and that without Cruz, that horrible bill would have passed.

When the other candidates can draw a crowd larger than the crowd at a half off buffalo wings lunch then maybe there will be a race.
