South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley says she would consider being the vice presidential candidate for the Republican Party this year.
The rising political star revealed that she is open to the possibility in an appearance on NBC Newsâ âTodayâ show Wednesday, a day after delivering the GOP response to President Obamaâs final State of the Union address.
âIf a candidate wanted to sit down and talk, I would sit down and talk,â she told host Matt Lauer. âI think thatâs a big decision. Itâs a family decision. Itâs a state decision. Itâs something Iâd have to think about. But I absolutely would sit down and talk with anyone that wanted to talk about it.â
Despite speculation that Haley is being prepped to join the Republican ticket, she said that she has not given the prospect much thought even if people in the media do not believe it.
Itâs worth noting that her speech the night before did not merely target the Obama administration. She warned against the siren call of the countryâs angriest voices and said Republicans share the blame for our current state of affairs and should look in the mirror.
"I was given an opportunity to say what I think, and I appreciate that from Speaker [Paul D.] Ryan and Senator [Mitch] McConnell,â she said.
Itâs likely that the Republican establishment tapped Haley to deliver the SOTU response not simply to criticize Democrats â but to distance the GOP from its current frontrunner, Donald Trump, whose dominance in the polls continues unabated.

Go Trump/Haley! /s
Simple question for you all?
Can you imagine ANY Democrats giving this speech in response to a Republican President SOFU address?
This is why the GOPE is so utterly useless. They want to sit down and hold hands with the same Democrats who will stop at nothing to tear their political heads off.
They had to do something since their “lady in waiting” Lindsay dropped out...
Sounds like she HATES Republicans that voted for her!!! LOSER.
I bet Nikki says that to all her RINO johns.
If one of the RINOs gets the nomination, she’d make a great RINO running mate. She just poisoned the well as far as Trump is concerned (at least I think she did).
Once again, Trump is controlling the narrative. He wasn’t present in the SOTU speech last night, but was obviously in the head of President Obama and Gov Nikki Haley.
She has all the right credentials: a token of "diversity" (female and south Asian), she supports amnesty and open borders, and she hates the Confederate Flag.
Wouldn't she make a better running mate for Hillary Clinton than for Cruz or Trump?
Correction:
“the former rising star.”
I am a solid Republican voter. IF Haley is on the ticket, I will have to find someone else to vote for.
After last night, she wont be Trump’s running.
Maybe Cruz will take her on if he is the nominee.
Or Maybe she can run with Hillary.
Yah forget it if it’s Trump or Cruz. No VP for her.
Gag alert...no way!!!
What does she bring to the ticket aside from be a liberal party hack? Nothing.
For those wondering, she was born in the USA.
>> What does she have to offer other than unbridled amnesty?
She’s good with a shiv.
Take her stand on just a battle flag. She blamed the horribly church murders on the flag. In a controversial move - a move greatly applauded by the tyrannical left - she removed the flag. She enjoyed doing it, judging from her smirking expression and how she enjoys bring it up again.
People in the South lost the war and went through horrible hardships afterwards, and Nikki Haley begrudges them even a battle flag. It brings to mind the Bolsheviks who after the Russian Civil War would condemn to death anybody caught in possession of a White Army battle flag.
Instead of limiting her rebuttal to Obama's speech, she attacks the GOP front runner. How absurd is that?
Nah she’ll work out a deal with Hilary or Sanders for the VP slot ... just imagine the possibilities ...
Nikki, that speech was a world-class clunker, the equivalent of a Great Pyrenees stool bobbing up and down in Reince Priebus's champagne fountain at the RNC social. Any more painful and tone-deaf than that, you're talking Yeb Bush territory.
Governor Haley, Martin O’Malley is on line six for you.
