During her response to President Barack Obama’s last State of the Union address, the South Carolina Governor recounted her own Indian-American heritage to call for fixing the country’s broken immigration system.
Indian-American Republican Governor Nikki Haley on Wednesday faced flak from the supporters of her party’s presidential candidate Donald Trump, as she cited her family’s immigrant experience to warn against rhetoric that could make hardworking people feel unwelcome in the US.
During her response to President Barack Obama’s last State of the Union address, Ms. Haley recounted her own Indian-American heritage to call for fixing the country’s broken immigration system.
“During anxious times, it can be tempting to follow the siren call of the angriest voices. We must resist that temptation,†the South Carolina Governor said.
“No one who is willing to work hard, abide by our laws, and love our traditions should ever feel unwelcome in this country,†she said.
“We must fix our broken immigration system. That means stopping illegal immigration. And it means welcoming properly vetted legal immigrants, regardless of their race or religion.
Just like we have for centuries,†Ms. Haley said.
Mr. Trump said after the Paris terror attacks he would consider creating a national database of American Muslims and later called for a temporary halt to Muslims entering the United States.
Ms. Haley’s remarks apparently made Mr. Trump’s supporters upset, which was best reflected in the series of tweets made by Ann Coulter, a strong supporter of the Republican candidate.
“Trump should deport Nikki Haley,†tweeted Ms. Coulter.
“Nikki Haley says ‘welcoming properly vetted legal immigrants, regardless of religion.’ Translation: let in all the Muslims,†she tweeted.
“The country is lit up w/a populist fever & the GOP (Republican) responds by digging in, criticising the GOP candidates dominating polls?! NOT SMART,†radio talk show host Laura Ingraham tweeted
Being a Northerner I don’t feel that I have any say on the confederate flag other than to say it doesn’t bother me.
As far as Trump is concerned....yeah that’s about the size of it.
Trump sees the problem, allowing illegal unvetted immigrants from hostile parts of the world, who are destined to segregate themselves while becoming dependents of American welfare system.
Halley's speech was a direct attack on populous candidates and is more proof that the GOPe needs to be defeated along with the dems.

Why? after sending thousands of dollars educating our children we throw them in cauldron of artificial international competition from wage slaves from all over the world under the H-1B visa program.
Rising wages and falling unemployment used to be desirable things that our government and industry at one time promoted. The term for this situation was prosperity. An archaic term for sure.
All that has changed because rising wages and falling unemployment is now consider a crises by the Establishment and its only solution it to flood the US labor market with culturally incompatible wage slaves from really awful places, most of them hate America.

Why? We are 20 Trillion Dollars in debt, over 100 million Americans of working age out of work, 54+ Million on Disability. What possible justifiable reason is there to take even ONE more Immigrant until we can take care of our own without strapping future generations with Additional Debt?
Nikki Haley is just an anchor baby. Hardworking means little. Some of the hardest working individuals, all illegal aliens from Mexico. are the black tar heroin pushers who target youngsters as well as those wanting to stop using drugs. Oddly they are under orders to sell only to whites.
The remark is so inane and stupid I have to believe this was actually a Jeb supporter trying to pose as a Trump supporter.

DT has clearly tapped into a stream of deep anger and worry and his magical solutions to all the mess does resonate.
It's worrisome to me that ANY call for a tempering of rhetoric and for more thought out proposals, gets FReepers immediately castigated.

Birthright Citizenship is a misinterpretation of the 14th Amendment. Regardless, as she was born to NON-citizen foreign nationals she is NOT eligible for vice-president or president. She is NOT a natural born Citizen.

That’s just nonsense. No one can deport you as a citizen.
She has no American/Indian heritage. She has Indian heritage which is likely why she’s a RINO who has no problem destroying the symbols of her own state’s past.
I thought India handled the problem pretty well. They created Pakistan and Bangladesh and pushed most of their Muslims there and closed the borders.
