Senator Ted Cruz has positioned himself as a strong opponent of same-sex marriage, urging pastors nationwide to preach in support of marriage as an institution between a man and a woman, which he said was âordained by God.â
But on Monday night, at a reception for him at the Manhattan apartment of two prominent gay hoteliers, the Texas senator and Republican presidential hopeful struck quite a different tone.
During the gathering, according to two people present, Mr. Cruz said he would not love his daughters any differently if one of them was gay. He did not mention his opposition to same-sex marriage, saying only that marriage is an issue that should be left to the states.

Sometimes self restraint can be taken to a fault. Trump is tipping a lot of secular sacred cows right now. All virtues matter, not just all vices; it’s possible to be self restrained even against doing what is right. We have a “truth is fallen in the street” problem and if God has brought a Trump answer to this, we might want to take a second look at it.
Oh, and thanks for asking, though, if I'm the savior. No, I am not. I thought Trump was the one presenting himself as a savior.
Well, Trump doesn’t smoke or drink, so that shows some self-restraint. What virtues do you associate with him? I saw recently that he barely contributes to his own charity, choosing instead to buy influence with his Democrat buddies, like the Clintons? So I’m serious about asking what are the personal virtues we would find admirable in Donald Trump?
Not close to truthful. Get a job.
Not close to truthful. Get a job.
If I understand at least part of your post correctly, what you’re basically revealing is that you believe Conservatives want someone who isn’t owned from outside Washington, D. C., until they get someone who isn’t owned from outside Washington, D. C.
We don’t want career politicians until we get someone who isn’t a career politician running.
Yikes.
Seems to care about the problem of politically correct lies to the point of making a major spectacle of correcting them.
Exactly.
Whom you meet and do business with is just that and nothing more.
The NY tabloid can twist any lie into truth.
Please correct any specifics that are not true by stating what they are. Otherwise, have a nice day.
Uh, no.
I have more confidence in both of them than you do.
I agree on the GOPe crap. I’m sick of their lies. I am sick of them selling out the US.
“Sure. Riight. The super PACs maybe, but not Cruz campaign. There is, after all, another demographic besides evangelicals”
Canadian Americans?
:-)
So you don’t know anyone who is gay and like them? This is way old news. The gay guy owns a hotel and his gay buddies went nuclear on him trying to hurt his business.
So who is inclusive? Who is against gay marriage but doesn’t discard all gays? Indeed who respects peoples right to be who they are except lawbreakers?
I commented on the fact that this apartment - where fundraiser was held - was the same apartment where the young man had recently passed. I’d never heard about that, before.
So does Cruz invite his homosexual politically active donors to his Iowa Holy Roller events? Just curious. Somebody is in the closet here so to speak and this is quite a bipolar campaign Cruz is running.
isn’t this what the establishment has done to the base for the last MANY election cycles?
Preach for the based but pander for the money.
How is it that you define “outside” Washington in a political sense.
If you define it as Trump or someone like him with absolutely no political track record of any kind, then you run the acute risk of electing someone that you cannot vet or predict.
It’s bad enough that newly minted politicians often go off the rails once they get to DC, and that politicians as a rule are predisposed to tell you what you want to hear and not what they think at the time, but these traits can be found in any human being, Especially one who is running for high office.
My point is that knowing full well the pitfalls of sending a politician to DC, electing a newly minted one with no way of vetting for predictability, is even worse. Especially one that does not appear to know what party he belongs to or does not think in the same terms that I do in regard to the real issues we have as a republic.
I cannot and will not vote for Trump. Even if he were the last and only man running..he’s a blank slate. You have no clue what he’s going to do except for what he says..and that’s not much, is it..
While I fully grasp the basis for this Trump love fest that I see here daily and also see elsewhere, I view it as a knee jerk reaction to Obama’s contempt for us as Conservatives, and his utter contempt for tradition, history, and liberty.
But I have never in all my days witnessed a emotional reaction by a human being result in a good thing.
Never....
In the case of the office of President, the track record, short as it is with total outsiders is not good either. This has all happened before.
The best way to sum this up is to “look before you leap”.
Thanks for one more attempt to rescue us poor dumb Trump supporters from ourselves.
You folks are not listening.
That’s okay. I accept it.
I have to accept you, and so it is...
