Apparently, Detroit Millennials get a lot of bang for their buck. In comparison to cities like New York or San Francisco where Millennials can only afford 165-square-feet and 135-square-feet, respectively, Millennials in Detroit can afford a whopping 3,205-square-foot abode. That number is larger than the national average size of a newly-constructed single-family home, which was 2,453-square-feet in 2014.

Millenials who increasingly don’t plan on having children have no interest in having a municipality get their property tax hooks in them (especially in an area abandoned by Europeans decades ago).
It would probably be worth buying to dismantle for the stone.

Thriving, dynamic cities like Detroit was in its heyday are national treasures.
And just think, Detroit was destroyed by venal, greedy, shortsighted politicians and foolish national policy.
Even worse - Almost every other American city is being destroyed in the same way.
At different rates and at different stages of decline but almost all headed in the same direction.

It’s a Good Thing that the people who enjoyed that nice home long ago are certainly not around to see these evil days.
When I look at the statistical sample, I would remove the outliers. Detroit is well beyond the others here - I interpret the data as something is seriously wrong where we see one value outside the other data points. Interesting that Memphis is at ~2800 sq ft. — would not live in Detroit nor Memphis due to crime.
