Obama didn't discover this prolem, someone in a lab discovered it and informed the proper government medical-safety bureaucracy, and the testing/vetting process began....and the beads were busted.

Obama had nothing to do with this except try to snatch the credit as he always does.

So let's not give him any.

Miralax causes me to have horrible seizures, it makes me feel like my entire body is on fire. I read it is a neurotoxin.

The GI doctor had my 5 yo grandson on 3 doses of Miralax a day and 16 doses once a week. We were afraid to leave the house with him.

It’s because of my grandchildren that I even know anything about Miralax. Two out of four are having constipation problems. What gives?

How is an ingested microbead different from an ingested grain of sand?

We usually don't deliberately mix sand into our toothpaste. If we did so, enough of it would probably cause a few problems.

AFAIK, Goop is the same as it was when it was invented in the late 1940s.

Interesting fact I found while looking up Goop. The guy who invented it was a tank gunner under Gen Patton. He was one of the Hellcats =>

But the story of GOOP really started back in 1943, when our founder, John Critzas, was drafted at the young age of 18 to serve his country in World War II. As a Sherman tank gunner in the 12th Armored Division under General George Patton, John belonged to the group of brave young men known as the Hellcats. During his service, he took part in numerous heroic missions, including rescues and concentration camp liberations.

Lol, Grandpap would use Lysol or rubbing alcohol as a deoderant in a pinch and spray RAID on himself copiously as an insect repellant.

Sometimes those little microbeads can get in your eyes, and cause problems, as this old song attests:

"Beady-Eyed Buzzard"

“Obama didn’t discover this prolem, someone in a lab discovered it and informed the proper government medical-safety bureaucracy, and the testing/vetting process began....and the beads were busted.”

So - does this mean the FDA or whoever got it wrong to allow these things INTO our system in the first place? Or - is it just some study somewhere with a bunch of fear-mongering. (Like the book/farc “Silent Spring” brought about the EPA.)

Here in the state of Washington, parents are thinking of sueing some school for using ground up rubber tires for the playing fields. No studies have found that they are harmful - but they just might be. Because, well - they could be bad. If it saves the life of just one child.... One school has already closed their fields.

From the interwebs:

“Today, the abrasives you might find in your toothpaste include hydrated silica (which can be made from sand), hydrated alumina, calcium carbonate, and dicalcium phosphates. None of these materials would have any cleaning effect on teeth without the scrubbing action of a toothbrush. Likewise, brushing teeth without an abrasive-containing toothpaste will not adequately clean and polish the tooth surfaces and will not remove stains.”

- See more at: http://www.deardoctor.com/articles/toothpaste-whats-in-it/#sthash.y6Ny3wJl.dpuf

An aside: aluminum can cause digestive problesm, calcium carbonate leads to global warming, and don’t get me started on phosphates.

Currently, using rubbing alcohol isn’t a good idea. They’ve
taken to making it with petroleum-based products. (Plain
old grain alcohol or vodka is organic & safe.)

I take garlic capsules; they seem to make my body odor
repellent to insects. Ticks don’t latch on to me any more!
- Of course, it might take Raid if one is going out into
the woods.

Remember, what we rub on our skin absorbs into the blood
stream same as if you swallowed it. (Rub an essential oil
on the bottoms of your feet; wait a few minutes and you’ll
actually TASTE the oil!)

That's good info. What we are talking about is "waterless hand cleaners". I was never crazy about goop. My go-to became Orange GoJo.

Upon further research, it turns out that microbeads are the modern day replacement of pumice in multiple applications. "Pumice", it turns out is from lava! Hence Lava soap! Who knew? One might say that pumice is true grit. I predict it will return and take its rightful place among exfoliants, abrasives and scrubbers.

Ironically, pumice, among many of its other uses, is used in water filtration!

Oh, I’m familiar with the skin barrier, though molecule size and solubility play an important role. You can put a couple fingers are in acetone and blow into an organic vapor meter and it will show up right away. I don’t recommend that as a frequent activity but it’s safe enough for a demonstration...

My grandson has autism and about 75% of kids with autism have bowel issues. Poor kid, it breaks my heart. He now gets enemas every 3 days if he doesn’t go. It’s about to drive my son to drinking.

There does seem to be a lot more constipation in children than I remember when my son was a child.

Miralax is the go to drug for treating children with constipation because it has no flavor but I’m far from convinced that it is safe.

I'm amazed when I hear that people don't believe things are absorbed through the skin. Many medications are applied topically to get into the blood stream. Nicotine, fenalyn (sp?) and nitro are 3 that come to mind quickly.
