Here's Why the US Government Suddenly Banned a Bunch of Soaps, Bodywashes, and Toothpastes

President Obama approved a bill on Monday banning soaps, toothpastes, and bodywashes that contain a harmful ingredient. That ingredient is microbeads — tiny, nearly impossible-to-dissolve plastic particles that enter water streams by the billions. The beads are typically found in cleansing products because they can be used as tiny scrubbers, helping to wipe away oil and dirt from the skin or teeth.

I recently read an article about dentists finding microbeads from toothpaste stuck in patients’ gum lines.

If a muslim had invented microbeads, Obama would be making all kinds of excuses as to why they CANNOT be banned.

Well, for once I think they’re right. Microbeads are not necessary, and we don’t really need tons of them in our lakes and streams. I looked at the products that contain them, and there’s nothing that I would consider using.

Can we ban leaf blowers too? Because the Mexican labor yard crews use them to blow leaves into the storm drains (clogging them up, leading to flooding and costly sewer pumping).

A recent study found as many as 1.7 million of the tiny particles per square kilometer in the Great Lakes region's Lake Erie, where much of our trash ends up.

How would Texas' trash wind up in Lake Erie?
