'MASH' Star Wayne Rogers Dies at 82 ("Trapper" John McIntyre)

Actor Wayne Rogers died on Thursday from complications from pneumonia, his rep exclusively tells ET. He was 82 years old.
Rogers, who hailed from Alabama, is best known for playing the role of Captain "Trapper" John McIntyre in the classic television series M*A*S*H from 1972-1975. He also had recurring roles in City of Angels, House Calls, and Murder, She Wrote.

His character on the TV show was more of a sidekick to Alda’s.
In the book by Richard Hooker (I must be one of the few that actually read it-and I’ve also read most of the sequels-they pretty much suck after ‘MASH Goes To Maine’), Trapper John has a much, much bigger role than was portrayed on TV. It also reveals exactly how he came to be known as “Trapper John”.

Wayne was a good balance for Alda. When he left, the balance was gone and the show became purely liberal leaning. Got that right. When he left M*A*S*H and when Alda took over the entire show...well...it really sucked.

He got is old friend Peter Falk out of financial problems.
After he got let loose form “MASH” he found his real niche as a Financier.
