EXACTLY. Now if Trump picks someone like Cruz for VP, he then also locks down the base.

Because he does not talk like a 4th grader. He doesn’t make threats he cannot keep, nor promises that are so outlandish, nobody could keep them. And he doesn’t throw childish temper tantrums.

I wouldn’t sweat it. Just a tempest in a teapot. These people don’t matter any in the big picture and just serve to negate each other here on FR. I make a habit of looking first at who is doing the pinging, and skip the usual suspects (we all know them by now). They don’t deserve our time of day.

And yet more than one poll shows him beating Hilary, and Hilary beating Trump.
Let Trump beat up on her, he has more pressing fights. Like that little taco salesman Rubico, D.A. Bush, loser Santorum and fatty Huckabee. They are all three using their PAC’s for the attack on Cruz.
Actually, Trump should be helping attack those 4 guys to help eliminate them and then he could take on Cruz. It is always better to fight one on one rather the one against four.
Trump has successfully defended himself.
Cruz will have to, as well. We shall see if Cruz is as good at defending
himself, as Trump has been.

You are so right. Cruz is the most truly genuine conservative we’ve had to vote for since Reagan and he gets vilified by the same six or eight posters in every thread. I’ve followed Free Republic for fifteen years, mostly just as a reader not a poster, and I’ve never been more discouraged with this site. How many of the Cruz bashers are actual conservatives? I daresay very, very few...I leave disheartened after I visit this site now. It used to be a much needed source to help me get through the tough times of the past eight years. I always knew there were people out there who thought as I did and believed in conservatism as I do. I don’t feel that way anymore when I come here—just read endless bashing and lies directed at a sincere Christian man who is a tireless champion of the Constitution...Very, very sad.

The Trumpettes have not the eyes to see nor ears to hear any criticism about their hero. Some stoop to smears to keep back rising competition. Many do not. Some are great FReeper friends and hope we all stay friends through this election cycle.
It is the conservative ideas that matter, not the people. They come and go. We must win on the principles or we have nothing worth fighting for.
The attacks on Trump were just verbal and easily deflected by Trump’s bluster. The attacks on Cruz are going to be from outside orgs spending millions and millions of dollars that only can be defended by more millions and millions of dollars.
The attacks on Trump were of no consequence but after they take care of Cruz they will come for Trump in the same way. Lots and lots of money with constant barrages of media. Trump has seen nothing yet and the attacks on him will be more ferocious than the ones on Cruz. And in the end we get Rubio for the candidate.

Operative in your statement “OVER THE YEARS”. My response is (1) Good, he is not rigid fanatic and (2) Who cares. It is not like Cruz supporting 500% increase in H1B until just a few weeks ago.

In the past, that's how Mod/Lib GOP GOP candidate get's the nomination!
By getting lots of more conservative GOP candidates than they, then encouraging us to fight, saving them from dirtying their hands on us, getting us to refuse to stand behind another more conservative candidate - then some stay home on election day when our choice lost so we gave the Left's ultimate candidate, Barack Hussein Obama a BIG WIN against ALL conservatives!!!
