If you are white, and you are reading this letter, I ask that you don't run to seek shelter from your own racism. Don't hide from your responsibility. Rather, begin, right now, to practice being vulnerable. Being neither a "good" white person nor a liberal white person will get you off the proverbial hook. I consider myself to be a decent human being. Yet, I'm sexist. Take another deep breath. I ask that you try to be "un-sutured." If that term brings to mind a state of pain, open flesh, it is meant to do so. After all, it is painful to let go of your "white innocence," to use this letter as a mirror, one that refuses to show you what you want to see, one that demands that you look at the lies that you tell yourself so that you don't feel the weight of responsibility for those who live under the yoke of whiteness, your whiteness.
I can see your anger. I can see that this letter is being misunderstood. This letter is not asking you to feel bad about yourself, to wallow in guilt. That is too easy. I'm asking for you to tarry, to linger, with the ways in which you perpetuate a racist society, the ways in which you are racist. I'm now daring you to face a racist history which, paraphrasing Baldwin, has placed you where you are and that has formed your own racism. Again, in the spirit of Baldwin, I am asking you to enter into battle with your white self. I'm asking that you open yourself up; to speak to, to admit to, the racist poison that is inside of you.

“Racism” is the act of drawing conclusions about others based on their race/ethnicity.
But somehow Yancy’s judgments about me are not called “racist” even though all his conclusions are rooted in it.
Just as his conclusions about black people are also racist.
A professor at Georgetown is complaining that people like him can’t make it in racist America?
And even though white people are “privileged” in 2015, the New York Times still would never post a column written by a white guy titled “Dear Black People”, because that would be racist.
But such is life in Obamaland - where terrorists are heroes, the law abiding are punished and the thoughtless idiots run everything....

No one tried to exterminate your whole family and nearly succeeded. You weren’t stripped of your passport or thrown out of your homeland. Your dead grandparents didn’t have “extermination dates. “ bite me. People are people. When I was in college I vowed to live the truth as if races don’t exist. Because genetically they do not. That is how I live. If I have ANY prejudice it is from groups behaving toward me and mine since turning adult. That is called logic.
In my life I have found more racism among other than white. No racism is good. Including that against whites.

He can’t EVER be responsible. Responsibility was another evil scheme dreamed up by white people to oppress the people of colors.
When the mirror presents no easy answer, the other guy becomes a scapegoat.
Presumably this means those are combining their non-white race with a ‘tude about it.
I'm a racist, sexist and homophobe. I'm also an America first Nationalist who doesn't givva sh*t about the plight of those who have allowed despots to rule over them.
I'm sure if I spent some time thinking about it I could come up with several other "ists" that I am.

Yet, you presume to know all these things. In fact, you presume to know how I should live my life going forward.
You must think you are a pretty smart guy to be able to do all that.

Great point. Racism is when you blame all of one race for thing a small minority of them did, judge them to all be alike, judge them all to be one way, naturally hate-filled or cowardly, etc. This man is an acute racist.
He should get a visit from the reddest redneck around and get asked, real slow and in a drawl, to explain these things.

I posted this earlier on another thread but it seem apropos here:
Some 200 hundred years ago,
some of the White people (North and South) sat on their porches
and watched the Black people do the work that needed to be done
so the Whites could live the life they wanted.
If the Blacks didn’t produce enough to keep the Whites happy,
the Whites complained about it.
In those days, it was called slavery.
Today, 200 years later,
a lot of the Black people (North, South, East, and West)
sit on their porches and watch the White people work to pay
the taxes that are necessary for the Blacks to live the life they want.
If their welfare check is not enough to keep them happy,
the Blacks complain about it.
It would appear to me that the only thing that has changed
in the last 200 years is the color of the slaves.
Racist blah blah, racists blah blah, vote democrat blah blah, hate white people ok blah blah.

It’s only the sick way that academia sucks up to this kind of ‘tude that foments it and keeps it going.
