Trump Threatens 35% Tax on Ford if Mexico Operations Expand
Mustang 360 ^ | 12/23/2015 | John Gilbert

It was the Detroit News headline "Trump goes after Ford Motor Co." not how long Hillary went overtime in the restroom that got our attention. Donald Trump made a whistle stop outside Grand Rapids, Michigan to take aim at Ford’s plans to expand production in Mexico. Trump promised if elected he would threaten manufacturers with big tariffs on imports to discourage building manufacturing plants south of the border.

Trump to Ford, "If you build that plant in Mexico, I’m going to charge you 35 percent on every car, truck part that you send into our country," he said. "Every single one." Trump went further saying he would engage in tough negotiations with car companies to build new plants in the US and Michigan. Political analysts say Trump’s proposal would at the very minimum require congressional approval and possibly violate NAFTA.

You are lying. If you go out of business your competitors will supply the needs of your customers, their market share will increase. That is unless you have a competitor free business model, then what you charge woukdn’t matter. So quit the BSing.

You are just being stubborn. Those in favor of tariffs are also in favor of lower taxation and regulation. Trump has already addressed the issue many times.
You still have not named the product that you can’t buy in America.

Yes. That is the root of the problem. Trump has explained it.

The obtuse don’t ever lead, and don’t ever want to follow a true leader either. We americans have been without a true leader for so long most don’t know how to act when we finally have one. Sad.

So disagreeing with Trump on anything in a public forum and discussing that rather than bowing down to him equals trolling and supporting Hillary. Gotcha.
Oddly, before Trump came along, it seemed attacking companies for outsourcing was by and large a liberal tactic. Yeah, conservatives don’t like such things either, but by and large we understand that too much government control in the economy and almost criminally high corporate tax rates are generally the leading causes of such things. So by and large, government is more the villain than businesses are

Jeb tried to hit Trump on his own outsourcing in one of the debates but it fell flat because, well, it is Jeb.

The sad thing about all this from my perspective is Trump indeed out of all the candidates is in prime position to explain directly how government policy makes it more practical and affordable to drive at least some business overseas. He has the loudest voice and platform of all the candidates. He speaks to the largest crowds. He has the business experience. He could articulate the greatest capitalistic and free market message that because of all those factors could be one of the greatest classes on the subject imaginable. Instead he goes for something that at least in rhetoric might fit better under the Obama administration as we threaten to put the boot on the throat of these greedy, treasonous corporations. Talk about a missed opportunity!

Nope. Discussion if great...that’s what makes this forum so great.

It’s the constant anti-Trump trolling, by anti-Trump posters, who’ve nothing better to do (95% of their posts are anti-Trump, on Trump threads)...like post all of the wonderful things THEIR candidate is doing, rather than the continuous Trump bashing.

Trump’s bonafides have been posted, time and again, by Trump supporters, including the boss of this forum.

Nice try, but not taking your bait. Go tout your candidate.

>> I would assume Trump knows the president shouldn’t have that power <<

If he does know it, then he’s an outright demagogue who will mouth just about any untruth in order to get elected.

If he doesn’t know it, then he’s an ignoramus whose knowledge of the U. S. Constitution is near-zero.

Is there a third possibility? Inquiring minds want to find out.

Trump has said tariffs are a tool to be used against deliberate currency manipulation. Deliberate currency manipulation is the root problem. People need to follow and think trough what Trump says instead of attacking a strawman they imagine to be Trump.

“By using the presidency to tell Ford they are a loser?”

No. By convincing Ford to help Make America Great Again. Is there a downside to Ford building the plant here in America instead of Mexico?? If so what is it?

Just bringing up this idea puts a spotlight on the issue of outsourcing and builds pubic pressure to change the status quo of letting corporations do whatever they please. Score another one for The Donald.
