As the end of the year approaches, Donald Trump is solidly ensconced at the top of the Republican polls nationally. The man just behind him? Senator Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) , an establishment bugaboo. The establishmentâs favorite candidate, Senator Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) , is currently running far behind in national polling, a distant third in Iowa, and in a deadlock with Cruz and New Jersey Governor Chris Christie for second in New Hampshire.
Panic time.
So, hereâs the establishment roundup for Christmas week.
If You Support Donald Trump, You Want to Lose. Earlier this week, Bret Stephens of The Wall Street Journal unleashed a petulant column accusing all Trump and Cruz backers of begging for defeat. âLet us now pledge to elect Hillary Clinton as the 45th president of the United States,â he snarked. âLetâs do this because itâs what we want. Maybe secretly, maybe unconsciously, but desperately. We want fourâand probably eightâmore years of cable-news neuralgia. We want to drive ourselves to work as Mark Levin or Laura Ingraham scratch our ideological itches until they bleed a little. We want the refinerâs fire that is our righteous indignation at a country we claim no longer to recognizeâruled by impostors and overrun by foreigners.â Stephens specifically singled out Cruz for criticism, calling him a flip-flopper âhappy to be on any side of an issue so long as he can paint himself as a âreal Republican.ââ(continued)

He is the perfect spokesman for Fox Snooze.
Merry Christmas
In SMOD we trust.
George got run over by a Trump Deer,
on his way home from Fox bitters;
George got run over by a Trump Deer,
And lighted the way for him to carry Hillary’s ditters;
Wow. This guy’s going off the deep end.
If he accomplishes nothing else, at least Trump has torn the mask off the uniparty, and exposed its members.
Hey George, remember these oldies but goodies:
In 1980, elect Reagan and the GOP will disappear from the face of the earth. Hold your nose and vote for Bush.
In 1988 and 1992, it was hold your nose and vote for Bush.
In 1996, it was hold your nose and vote for Dole.
In 2000 and 2004, it was hold your nose and vote for Bush, Jr.
In 2008, it was hold your nose and vote for McCain.
In 2012, it was hold your nose and vote for Romney.
In 2016, it is your turn to hold your nose.
What's the point of your post? You're just clarifying a deeper insanity.
Gee, you think the game would go on without them?
“What’s the point of your post? You’re just clarifying a deeper insanity.”
Accuracy. Will is not guilty of the accusation.
G. Will is despicable and is pulling for Hillary.
George Will, certifiable MORON
Anyone have a WSJ ID to see were this comes from? I'm guessing he parrots Rubio's screed on Cruz's words in an effort to defeat the Go8 Amnesty Bill and expose their one true purpose in granting citizenship to millions of new democrat voters.
Perhaps. Though Will’s basic contention is so outrageous that I just don’t see the distance between it and the title as meaningful. YMMV
Bret, ol' buddy, ol' pal, if that's what we want to happen, we don't have to nominate Trump (or Cruz). We can just leave the country in the hands of the Republican party leadership.
Quote:
“...... the ones who told grassroots Republicans to ignore conservatism in favor of who could win.”
That’s the mantra droned from on high by the GOPe talking heads at Fox News, the WSJ, NRO, and other so-called “conservative” media outlets.
And at best this has brought us either ignominious defeat(Bob Dole, John McCain, Mitt Romney), George W. Bush and his disastrous spending and NeoCon nation building, and last and certainly least, Jeb Bush and John Kasich.
Stuff it, George Will. You can’t lead, you refuse to follow, now you need to get the hell out of the way.
Illusions of invulnerability lead members of the group to be overly optimistic and engage in risk-taking.
Unquestioned beliefs lead members to ignore possible moral problems and ignore consequences of individual and group actions.
Rationalizing prevents members from reconsidering their beliefs and causes them to ignore warning signs.
Stereotyping leads members of the in-group to ignore or even demonize out-group members who may oppose or challenge the groups ideas.
Self-censorship causes people who might have doubts to hide their fears or misgivings.
"Mindguards" act as self-appointed censors to hide problematic information from the group.
Illusions of unanimity lead members to believe that everyone is in agreement and feels the same way.
Direct pressure to conform is often placed on members who pose questions, and those who question the group are often seen as disloyal or traitorous.
>Thank you Irving L. Janis for identifying this symptom of imminent national suicide.
Everyone who lives in Washington DC and environs has it
I guess this means that of Trump wins the Presidency, George Will won’t invite him to his Georgetown Townhouse for dinner.
What a shame.
He will however have Hillary over and let her use the Bathroom all by herself.
Then the NYT can comment on the perfect crease of her Pantsuit.
