Asked by a Republican gay-rights supporter at a Madison Avenue fundraiser in New York if a Ted Cruz administration would make fighting gay marriage a top priority, the candidate's reply was succinct: "No." Audio of the event, which took place in December, was obtained by Politico's Mike Allen

Any more of these highly charged audio leaks will be the end of the Cruz campaign. Rumor has it that he has said behind closed doors that his favorite 80’s singer is Dan Fogelberg. How many more self inflicted wounds can this man survive?
Have YOU heard of ANYONE in the field talking about the debt; and I mean aside from the ‘Oh, that’s *bad*’ offhand comments??
I hadn’t even heard of the ‘great White hope’, of some on this board, Mr. Cruz, stating he’d abolish SS/Medicare/Welfare in re: Constitution.
I’m sure to get inundated with the usual “You have to pick your battles...”, as if the Republic can last long enough to individually extinguish each illegal/unconstitutional program/act/dept/regulation/’law’.
Sure doesn’t seem to be on Mr. Budget (Ryan) boy’s radar. Guess he took Clink’s words to heart (to paraphrase), “Balancing the budget is too H-A-R-D”.
How can he fight Gay Marriage? The SCOTUS proclaimed it a Civil Right.
States Rights are now selective depending on Ideology. Welcome to the Brave New World.
Heck, I’m waiting for the fight over Incestuous Marriage and Polygamous Marriage to start.
Was this some sort of a gotcha question directed at Ted?
The Supreme Court should be forcibly shifted to the right by impeaching Justices who make rulings clearly against the meaning of the constitution.
As much as I’d love to see Ted Cruz as president, I’d almost rather he be the first pick of a Trump administration to replace Ruth Buzzy-Ginsburg. Next would be Mike Lee to replace an impeached John Roberts.
While I wouldn’t disagree with his priorities, that’s not really what he said. He said upholding the Constitution is one of his highest priorities, that marriage should be a state issue and not a federal one, and that as part of upholding the Constitution his administration would fight to return the matter to the states.
I agree that security comes first. That said, our debt issue will become a security problem if not dealt with.
In other words, he’s pro-choice for states on the laws of nature and nature’s God.
A notion that the great philosophers of western civilization, and the founders of this great republic, would have greatly deplored.
He’s right!! Secure the country, get the economy back on track, then work on culture.
Bullsh!t. Congress has the capacity to tell SCOTUS to eat its hat when it comes to ANY topic.
To lay one’s hope SOLELY at the feet of the President is disingenuous at best.
Congress should be bitch slapping these punks left and right; abolish all other federal courts (Article III, Section 1), and then start over.
“Terrorism, gun rights and stopping the illegal invasion are more urgent issues.”
Agreed!
Welcome, newbie. For which candidate are you shilling?
I agree, and I have pointed out that Trump is also laser focused on these issues and the economy as well. The social issues will need to take a back seat for now. We need Trump to clear the path and lay waste to the uniparty before we can bring conservatism back to where it needs to be.
Has trump announced that fighting gay marriage is a top three issue?
Cruz clarifies a priority that blankets the question at hand and this implies some sort of flip?
Nice try, no dice.
The poster is straw grasping... it’s all they can do.
“sorry conservatives” - Donald Trump
Of course it’s not a top three priority. Does anyone think it is?
But we know when you are either lying or deluded.
He did not say he was in favor of gay marriage.
He simply said it wasn’t a top three priority and it’s not.
i guess that depends on whether ted thinks the appointment of judges and justices are a “top three priority.”
Ted is the only one that we can be 100% sure of that will appoint true Conservative judges (true conservatives are pro life pro family no exceptions)
So we can be sure Ted Cruz will appoint the right judges, with others we only hope they will.
That was NOT a slam on Trump btw, just that anybody who says they are Certain that he will appoint the right judges is really out on a limb.
I like Trump he is my 2nd choice, but he will be a mystery in that regard, I suspect he will do what`s right.
I also suspect that Rubio/Bush etc would say...”could not possibly get a real Conservative through, so will have to pick someone that Dems will stomach”
Cruz will not be a question mark.
I dont buy the argument for a 2nd that social issues should take a back seat, that is a line from the pit of hell, but I dont see any benefit for Cruz to announce to the world that its his top priority.
