Imperial College London has found that two networks of genes determine whether people are intelligent or not so bright.
Genes which make people intelligent have been discovered and scientists believe they could be manipulated to boost brain power.
Researchers have believed for some time that intellect is inherited with studies suggesting that up to 75 per cent of IQ is genetic, and the rest down to environmental factors such as schooling and friendship groups.
But until now, nobody has been able to pin-point exactly which genes are responsible for better memory, attention, processing speed or reasoning skills. Now Imperial College London has found that two networks of genes determine whether people are intelligent or not-so-bright.
They liken the gene network to a football team. When all the players are in the right positions, the brain appears to function optimally, leading to clarity of thought and what we think of as quickness or cleverness.
However when the genes are mutated or in the wrong order, it can lead to dullness of thinking, or even serious cognitive impairments.
Scientists believe that there must be a 'master switch' regulating the networks and if they could find it, they could 'switch on' intelligence for everyone.
"We know that genetics plays a major role in intelligence but until now havenât known which genes are relevant," said Dr Michael Johnson, lead author of the study from the Department of Medicine at Imperial College.
"This research highlights some of genes involved in human intelligence, and how they interact with each other."

I haven’t read the report. Does it state that liberals don’t have the genes?
That’s right. Great intelligence in the hands of someone morally corrupt and evil can wreak great havoc in the lives of many people.

His successors created a mass pogrom of the Roman upper classes, just murdered them for their connections, also for their priceless knowledge of how the Republic worked, how to make the offices work, how to govern a province, how to finance political campaigns. Marc Antony and Octavian just butchered them -- starting with Cicero, and getting around to Caesar's assassins later.
People still think of Caesar as a big shot, but he was small where it counted.
Seven Multiple Intelligences, currently the rage in California education is B$.
What's a "Multiple Intelligence"?
I received money to get a PhD. Other than that... it is true that it takes a lot of qualities in addition to intelligence to get through a PhD program. It takes qualities like patience, diligence, and perseverance to get through a PhD program.
You don't know my husband. The moment he wants to find something, he asks. I would rather take some time to observe the layout, look at maps, etc., and try to find the thing or place myself--so I rarely ask for directions. I can have a map in my hand, and be pointing at the route to where we need to go, and hubby *still* wants to find someone and ask.
Poor nutrition and disease also take their toll on IQ, especially during the crucial early years. Once the body's resources are shifted towards surviving these threats and away from brain development, the child's IQ will never catch up to that of children raised in clean healthy environments.
Just my opinion, but the “Jews” have a rich tradition in study of the Torah. They memorize entire sections and repeat the writings from those studies. This is a mental exercise that sharpens the mind. It also gives them confidence to debate fine points of law and scripture, and socializes them with adults. Most other “ethnic” groups are more worried about GTA-10, playing ball, or getting high. I think the Jews experience is similar to Asian types of rote memorization and then presenting their thoughts on the knowledge gained to parents or teachers.

Um... your Freeper page says “Since Jul 19, 2003”
That sounds like a mark of intelligence to me.
Generations of selecting mates for desirable traits, as opposed to indiscriminate mating, for one thing.
This exercise of reading scripture or knowledge and then debating the fine points appears to be something severely lacking in most Islamic education, where memorizing the Koran in Arabic (even if not an Arabic speaker) is a goal and being able to repeat it verbatim. I suspect there is very little discussion and certainly no disagreement.
