TED CRUZ MAKES HUGE LEAP, now just FOUR points away from Trump in new poll!!!

Ted Cruz is going to wake up to an early Christmas gift from the polling elves at Quinnipiac University, as their new results show him making a YUGE leap in popularity to gain on the front-runner Trump. For his part, he increased by one point as well.

Donald Trump’s perch atop the 2016 presidential polls is looking a little shakier this morning.

In the latest Quinnipiac University national survey released Tuesday, Trump leads Texas Sen. Ted Cruz by just four percentage points.

Trump’s share remained essentially unchanged from the university’s last poll, ticking up one point to 28 percent. Cruz, meanwhile, shot up eight percentage points to 24 percent.

Florida Sen. Marco Rubio finished third with 12 percent, a five-point drop since late November, while retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson continued his downward spiral with 10 percent, a six-point hit in the same period. New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie registered 6 percent, his highest level of support in a telephone poll since late May. Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush took 4 percent, while all other candidates earned 2 percent or less and 8 percent remained undecided. Of those who named a candidate, 58 percent of Republican voters said they might change their mind before voting in their state’s primary.

Cruz commanded pluralities of support over Trump among those describing themselves as members of the tea party (38 percent to 27 percent) and white, born-again Evangelical Christians (33 percent to 22 percent). Cruz also led Trump among very conservative supporters (38 percent to 27 percent), while Trump led at least nominally in every other demographic polled.

But it’s close. Among men, for example, Cruz trails Trump 30 percent to 29 percent, while among those with a college degree, he trails 24 percent to 21 percent.

In other results, it looks like Cruz does best in a head-to-head competition with Hillary, but he finishes even:

Click on post #49 for the most recent RCP poll averages. I generally think that offers the best snapshot.

Cruz has moved into a solid second place ahead of Rubio after the last debate. It appears as though Cruz is picking up the supporters that Ben Carson and Rubio are losing.

I was referring to Cruz's path to victory in the general election, not the GOP nomination...

Most polls I ve seen show him doing better than Trump against Hillary, including the 12/22 Quinipiac Poll.

Cruz is my first choice absolutely but that does not mean I t rule out this as being pushed by the MSM... Everybody on the MSM seems thrilled about it. Fox considers it the only poll out there

I predicted that the pollsters would take matters into their own hands, I absolutely did, next time it will be Ted they go after, once they are finished with Trump (they hope) they are coming after Cruz

It was the right question and I was asking you!

I will ask those other people the same question.

I wasn't basing my statement on polls, but rather my own instincts. Cruz's appeal seems to be much narrower in terms of demographics.

I hope I'm wrong, of course, because I'd like nothing more than to see Cruz destroy Hillary in any and all debates.

You seem to think that there is animosity between the Donald and the media. In fact, their relationship is symbiotic, each benefitting the other. The more Trump spews, the more copy for the press. The more copy from the press, the more opportunity for Trump to spew. The media have their candidate. For all their protesting, they know he is pro-choice. They know he can’t do jack about immigration without congress. He can never lead a true conservative groundswell like Cruz can. So congress doesn’t fear him, they welcome him. His business insider schtick is made to order for the crony capitalists in congress. And that includes big media too. Kabuki theater.

The BIG LIE in this poll is that 50% of Republicans would be embarrassed by a President Trump... that is a lie from the pit of hell, more like 35 % max

And this horse crap that Slutty Hillary beats Trump by 7, another lie from the pit of hell

Rush is pointing out, as I type, how Trump’s polling numbers are skewed lower because participants are “embarrassed” to admit support. The poll you mention also states as much.

In public? Sure. But to pollsters? Maybe a little bit.

For some reason it’s reversed. Obviously he has no problem drawing 10-20 thousand “in public”.

From the poll you sighted:
“For Trump, half of those responding - 50 percent - indicated that they would be embarrassed to have him as commander in chief, “

If you're prepared to believe that, you have to ask yourself if these pollsters really have their finger on the pulse of those who will stay home if it's Trump, but not if it's Cruz.

I just don't believe such insights are credible, particularly when the chief functional disparity between Trump and Cruz is regard for Constitutional principles, something that pretty much concerns only us.

Cruz's appeal seems to be much narrower in terms of demographics.

Cruz has a calm demeanor, like Obama (ducking), that is TV gold. His temperament undercuts the extremist label given to him by the Democrat media. At the very least he seems reasonable. This minimizes reflexive emotional opposition and makes it possible for liberals to consider what he is saying.

I’m talking one on one versus being a face in the crowd.

I considered going to see him in Worcester, just to enjoy the show.

Cruz can win. Cruz SHOULD win. Cruz brings everything The Donald brings to the table and more.

Cruz bring the destruction of Planned Parenthood which I support that Trump does not bring...Other than that, your statement is the opposite of reality...
