Bill Kristol: ‘We’ll Have to Start’ New Party If Trump Wins Nomination
Breitbart ^

Posted on 12/21/2015 10:07:19 PM PST by TigerClaws

On Monday, Weekly Standard editor-in-chief Bill Kristol tweeted out what the rest of the Republican establishment is thinking: better Hillary than Donald. Here’s the tweet:

Crowd-sourcing: Name of the new party we’ll have to start if Trump wins the GOP nomination? Suggestions welcome at editor@weeklystandard.com

— Bill Kristol (@BillKristol) December 20, 2015

Kristol isn’t alone. As I wrote at Daily Wire today, Politico’s Jeff Greenfield says, “If the operatives I talked with are right, Trump running as a Republican could well face a third-party run – from the Republicans themselves.” That follows last Thursday’s Politico column from former New Jersey governor Christine Todd Whitman, who compared Trump to Hitler and called him “evil,” and last Wednesday’s Politico column reporting that Jeb Bush’s aides “began looking into the possibility of making a clear break with Trump – potentially with the candidate stating that, if Trump were the nominee, Bush would not support him.”

Actually, onyx, that is just what we have hoped for— to take over the Republican Party, restore it as LOYAL OPPOSITION and run the Establishment/neo-con/Lefties right OUT of the party.

It so suits me just fine if they evaporate. You know what I mean.

Glad to see Cruz has finally come around on this issue. Your initial comment was a little misleading. It seemed to imply that those supporting Trump’s plan to build a wall were abandoning conservative principles by doing so.

Brilliant plan. There’s no reason for them to leave home. What would they say about it? “It would be too easy to manipulate votes. Uh-oh!”

Answer? Like it isn't easy to manipulate votes today?' The only difference I can see is the votes MIGHT be influenced by the people who elected them and not by big money.

I would truly like to see elected officials have to go back to work after their time in office.

Bill Kristol and all his fellow conservative elites would have a hard time electing a dog catcher without our help...

So when Trump gets the nomination, if the GOPe cobbles together a 3rd Party to run YEB! or Carly or anyone else; by what magic trick will they get anybody to pay any more attention to them than they do now? And by what powers of persuasion will they get more than 3% to actually VOTE...

Good point. The GOPe and more timid conservatives always compare that situation to Perot in 1992 handing the election to Bill Clinton but Jeb doesn't remind me of Perot in 1992, he reminds of John Anderson in 1980. Anderson ran as a centrist alternative to "extreme" Reagan and the failed Carter administration. He got 7% of the popular vote and no electoral votes. Reagan got 51%, Carter 41% and just 49 electoral votes. Reagan got 489.

The moderate pulled votes from the liberal Carter not the conservative Reagan. That could happen in a Jeb-Clinton-Trump race.

Though Jeb is a lot less exciting than John Anderson.

Agree, but I take exception with your characterization of Kristol as a "conservative" of any kind. Other than the fact that he and his circle may want slightly lower corporate taxes than Hillary Clinton, there really isn't any difference between a Democrat and any one of Kristol's dream candidates (think Lindsey Graham).
