During a weekend campaign stop in south Alabama, Republican senator and presidential hopeful Ted Cruz said he had "three words" for people questioning whether the southern border can be secured: "Secretary Jeff Sessions."
"We are going to deport criminal illegal aliens, we are going to pass Kate's Law [mandatory minimum sentences for illegal immigrants who are deported but later return to the U.S.], we are going to end welfare benefits for those here illegally," Cruz told a raucous crowd of over 1,300 Alabamians. "For anyone who wonders, 'Can we really secure the border?' I've got three words for you: Secretary Jeff Sessions! You want to talk about a homeland security secretary who would go down and build the wall himself!"
Cruz is in the middle of a campaign swing through several southern states, seeking to lock up conservatives support in the southeast where many voters will head to the polls for the so called SEC Primary on March 1st.

Cruzâs record on immigration has been under attack in recent days after rival candidate Marco Rubio criticized him for offering an amendment during debate over the Gang of Eight immigration bill that would have granted legal status, but remove the possibility of citizenship, to individuals in the country illegally. Rubio said the amendment was proof that Cruz supported âlegalizing people who are in this country illegally."
Cruz says now the amendment was meant as a "poison pill" to kill the whole package, or at the very least as a way to expose that what Democrats really wanted was not to âbring people out of the shadows,â as they often claimed, but rather to grant citizenship to millions of future Democratic voters. By removing citizenship from the equation, Cruz allies said he was exposing Democratsâ true motives.
The media have seized on the disagreement and pressed Cruz on the issue in numerous interviews over the past week, but Senator Sessions, whose credibility on the immigration issue is unquestioned among the conservative base, has repeatedly come to Cruzâs defense.
"One of the things you've been hearing about is criticism of Ted and what he did with regard to the massive immigration bill they tried to ram through in 2013,â Sessions told the crowd on Saturday. "Let me tell you, I was there every step of the way. Ted Cruz was on my side, he fought this legislation all the way through."
Reading some of the categories in the CBS poll in Iowa, 63% say Cruz is electable, 41% say Trump is electable. In several polls, Cruz does better against Hillary than Trump does.
I’m just praying Trump and Cruz squeeze out Rubio.
Rubio’s non-vote on the budget might have killed his chances.
cruz is doing “me too” arguments?
Then your memory is faulty. It's been in Cruz' published immigration plan for over a month.
Cruz is a real conservative, he’s saying he will build a wall, and he has a legislative and personal history of doing conservative things. Trump says he’ll build a wall and has no legislative history* and a personal history that stinks.
*You could say Trump does have a legislative history if you count the politicians he’s praised and the political leanings of celebrities he praises.
The senate is no place for a conservative, as Cruz has demonstrated.
For as long as I’ve listened to him, his position has been that he would secure the border. He explains that existing federal law mandates 750 miles of double fencing on the border, of which only 30 miles has been erected. He said he would complete the entire 750 miles and secure the border.
If the word “wall” resonates more with the public- or is more simply understood- why shouldn’t he use it? Double fence or wall— it doesn’t alter the underlying purpose.
Nah. Congress is worthless.
Except Cruz has being saying this back when Trump was saying the opposite.
Walls are permanent, fences don’t work. Go Trump!
Kanye West would probably pull in 60,000.
The citation is bogus. For the law to apply a prosecutor would have prove beyond a reasonable doubt that there had been a quid pro quo of Cruz making a promise of the appointment to Sessions in return for his political support.
...but Trump really means it right?
Cruz supporters have heard all this before. It really doesn’t matter to them. They’re not here to get ideas on who to vote for. They’re here to promote Trump, screw the truth.
But he did “Warren Buffett is a terrific guy and a very common-sense person. I mean, Warren is a very common-sense person. That’s how he makes the money: with common sense â smart, but common sense. You take some of these great minds that we have, nobody can beat us.”
If you are comparing Trump to West, you are loony.
Cruz is a good man. No doubt a great conservative.
But if one truly wants to change DC, Trump is the only option.
If can even be changed. And I’m not so sure it can.
