During a weekend campaign stop in south Alabama, Republican senator and presidential hopeful Ted Cruz said he had "three words" for people questioning whether the southern border can be secured: "Secretary Jeff Sessions."
"We are going to deport criminal illegal aliens, we are going to pass Kate's Law [mandatory minimum sentences for illegal immigrants who are deported but later return to the U.S.], we are going to end welfare benefits for those here illegally," Cruz told a raucous crowd of over 1,300 Alabamians. "For anyone who wonders, 'Can we really secure the border?' I've got three words for you: Secretary Jeff Sessions! You want to talk about a homeland security secretary who would go down and build the wall himself!"
Cruz is in the middle of a campaign swing through several southern states, seeking to lock up conservatives support in the southeast where many voters will head to the polls for the so called SEC Primary on March 1st.

Cruzâs record on immigration has been under attack in recent days after rival candidate Marco Rubio criticized him for offering an amendment during debate over the Gang of Eight immigration bill that would have granted legal status, but remove the possibility of citizenship, to individuals in the country illegally. Rubio said the amendment was proof that Cruz supported âlegalizing people who are in this country illegally."
Cruz says now the amendment was meant as a "poison pill" to kill the whole package, or at the very least as a way to expose that what Democrats really wanted was not to âbring people out of the shadows,â as they often claimed, but rather to grant citizenship to millions of future Democratic voters. By removing citizenship from the equation, Cruz allies said he was exposing Democratsâ true motives.
The media have seized on the disagreement and pressed Cruz on the issue in numerous interviews over the past week, but Senator Sessions, whose credibility on the immigration issue is unquestioned among the conservative base, has repeatedly come to Cruzâs defense.
"One of the things you've been hearing about is criticism of Ted and what he did with regard to the massive immigration bill they tried to ram through in 2013,â Sessions told the crowd on Saturday. "Let me tell you, I was there every step of the way. Ted Cruz was on my side, he fought this legislation all the way through."
He's gonna win Iowa.....big.
He needs to win more than Iowa, much more.
Yikes! Cruz needs to be very careful about mentioning names and positions during a campaign. Federal law is really strict about that.
Been saying for years this is the way to go. Name your staff before or during the campaign and run as a team.
We does everyone want to take the really Conservative Senators out of the Senate? I make one exception, because as Vice President, Ted Cruz would still be in the Senate. ;-)
That’s what I thought. Well, my first thought was are we buying the public by mentioning Sessions, or trying to buy Sessions?
Because they can accomplish little there and a lot in cabnet positions making rules and enforcing law.
We need Sessions to remain in the Senate.
I thought so as well....
WHOO! Hold on there! Enforcing laws is OK, but we need to be UNMAKING rules and regulations, not making them.
Federal law prohibits naming a staff of people.

He was an excellent AG for the state of Alabama and you've seen his work in the Senate.
One man cannot move the direction of the senate...voters will have to do that.

Suddenly he’s well Donald J. Trump. LOL!
Name you staff and go to jail for a year or so. :-)

Hint strongly. Stay out of jail and win a landslide.
Does not matter, Trump or Cruz. They both sound good. IMO they are the only two choices.
I know this is fantasy, but if they teamed up, and the dem ticket was split between Hitlery as a dem, and Sanders an independent, it would be just one huge landslide. There is no way they could roust enough people from the cemeterys to fudge the election. They could even get all the illegals to vote and still lose.
The establishment would be just worried sick.
Sessions... Cruz is genius.
“favor, or reward for any political activity or for the support of or opposition to any candidate”
So agreeing with a candidate is a felony? This entire law is a hole big enough to fly a Saturn 5 through sideways.
Example
“John and I agree on X. The country would benefit from having a guy like Jon as our Y”.
“Bob and I agree on X. The country would benefit from having someone like Bob as our Y” instead of the garbage we have.”
Good luck trying to convict on that statement.
