MOSCOW (AP) -- U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry on Tuesday accepted Russia's long-standing demand that President Bashar Assad's future be determined by his own people, as Washington and Moscow edged toward putting aside years of disagreement over how to end Syria's civil war.
"The United States and our partners are not seeking so-called regime change," Kerry told reporters

Indeed the whole leprous “Arab Spring”.
I had rather get rid of Kerry and keep Assad.
The lesson to 3rd world governments is clear, if you want a reliable ally choose Russia, not the USA.
Yeah, overthrowing bad guys in the Middle East hasn’t exactly gone too smoothly the last few Presidents.
Who was in the Senate, the WH, head of State, hmmm?
It’s enough to make Stanley Laurel blush.
Well, this is just a great demonstration of Obama sticking to his principles. He was always against America bullying everyone and forcing “regime change”.
Oh, wait...
"Of course I'm referring to Secretary Kerry's grasp of the ISIS threat, what did you think I was referring to?"
Russian response - We came, we saw, he lived. No Cackle.
Indeed the whole leprous âArab Springâ.
I remember when the Obamanites were acting like the cat that caught the canary over their `Arab Spring’.
And thinking—OK, they’ve managed to destabilize an entire region, with deaths and mayhem, families torn apart, economies ripped asunder, refugees ... how in the world can they consider this a good thing?
Har!
What a waste of money, Kerry could have surrendered by phone.
“:^)
“No, Vlad, stop! Uncle, uncle!”
Power Negotiations by John Kerry. .
“So what happens to the U.S. Support for those Good Rebels fighting to overthrow Assad?”
The US Green Berets who were running the train and equip operation in Turkey near the NW SYrian border have redeployed to train Kurds in Erbil,
The Saudis have reportedly sent out a (secret) memo to their embassies to cease funding them. That is basically all their salaries, as well as other critical expenses like food.
The Assad Regime and the Russians have thrown open the doors to reconciliation, and are accepting applications from individuals who want to get on the right side of things, and are cutting deals with the commanders of several of the many “Free Syrian Army” groups, such as the recent handover of most of Homs.
The Turks and ISIS are a whole different matter.
Wonder if it had anything to do with Putin’s final Chess move when he moved in his Queen (er S400 Missiles) and said Checkmate! What is Obama doing with his F15s that arrived at Incirlik Air Force Base, Turkey a few days earlier?
Thanks, Nachum for the ping.
IMO Assad is far better than what would replace him. It doesn’t matter whose idea it is, the “syrian rebels” = Isis.
Wow “Big John” is going to “allow” Assad to stay in accordance with Putin’s wishes?
What the hell else could this big dopey twat do now that the USA is always bargaining from the position of weakness?
Well, apparently kerry gave Putin a really stern letter or something
