Republican officials and leading figures in the party's establishment are now preparing for the possibility of a brokered convention as Donald Trump continues sit atop the polls and the presidential race.

That’s where I get confused. I mean, if you cant gt the majority of your own party to vote for you in the primary, what makes you think you have any chance in the general?
They’ll worry about that part afterword. That’s what their $500,000,000 war chest is for. Seriously, that’s how they think.
The difference is Bush is trying to save his party while Trump is trying to save his nation.
Just curious. Shouldn’t the GOP prepare for this anyway? Trump might win a lot of delegates but possibly not enough to put him over the top. It would make sense IMO.
Suppose Trump decides to go third-party and other significant candidates, such as Cruz and Rubio, decide to join his third-party, do you think this would guarantee that the third-party would have the winning nomination and lead to the demise of the GOPe?
I’m not going to bet, but I will acknowledge that Trump could win. I think I understand Ted Cruz’s strengths and his strategy to play to them in early primaries.
I support Ted Cruz financially and will continue to do so right on through the campaign.
Translated that becomes “they are arranging a brokered convention so that they can deny Trump the nomination”.
Ike had his good points. He was an intelligent, talented man but he was as George Patton pointed out a political man even in uniform who flattered people like a politician.
Ike’s best contribution was his farewell speech where he warned us about the ‘military industrial complex’ whose modern day friends include the likes of John McCain and Dianne Feinstein.
“The only reason Bush was on the ticket was because that was the compromise the establishment forced on Reagan in order for them to agree to back him.”
I remember this very well - sort of...
I was working that summer in Alaska at a salmon cannery.
There was a breakdown and we had a few hours to ‘relax’ (recuperate is a better word).
We turned on Armed Forces Radio, played some cribbage and heard that it was going to be Reagan/Ford - a co-presidency!
My buddy and I were ecstatic! Apparently the long hours were getting to us...At the dinner hour we would say things like: ‘Slide me a slice of supply side pie.’ It was funny and we were exhausted...
We went back to work for three days knowing the ticket was Reagan/Ford.
Turns out it was a backroom delay to get Bush on the ticket and the ruse only lasted an hour or so...
In my mind it lasted for days...
Translated that becomes âthey are arranging a brokered convention so that they can deny Trump the nominationâ.

Exactly.
Let the RINO shenanigans begin. They are panicking.
bkmk
How do you become a Trump delegate in Cleveland? We can’t let the GOPe infiltrate.
What we have here is a Paradigm Shift
I responded but the questioner could handle the answer.

They haven’t had a contested convention since 1948; not a close one since 1976. Won’t happen

A dream; Demos will remain steadfast for HRC and the left as they have since at least 1932, no matter what "evidence" surfaces.
