Why Ted Cruz won't slam Donald Trump
CNN ^ | 12/8/15 | Ted Schiefler

Posted on 12/08/2015 5:38:37 PM PST by VinL

Donald Trump's inflammatory rhetoric has invited the scorn of nearly every Republican presidential candidate with one notable exception: Ted Cruz.

As every GOP White House hopeful raced on Tuesday to issue harsh condemnations of Trump's plan to forbid Muslim immigration to the United States, Cruz made significant news by barely saying much at all. He disagreed with Trump — that's it.

"I do not agree with his proposals. I do not think it is the right solution," Cruz said in the Capitol. "The right solution I believe is the legislation that I have introduced."

This was only the second time that Cruz has created any distance between himself and Trump, who have pulled away from most of the pack in Iowa, where the two of them lead in polls. In a pair of new polls released Monday, Cruz and Trump alternated in the top position.

But Cruz's campaign has wagered that attacking Trump — who has shown tremendous political durability through all of his controversies — is a fool's errand, more likely to sink Cruz's numbers than Trump's.

So for six months, Cruz has bashed reporters for trying to bait him into shots into a conflict with the New Yorker, casting the media — and not Trump — as his foil. Even when asked for policy differences with Trump — which Cruz has said are at the heart of the political campaign — the Texas senator would not miss a beat before chastising reporters or encouraging "Republican-on-Republican violence."

It's a gambit that ...

Cruz will win the nomination because his plan is jelling at just the right time and will continue to gather the voters who sat out the last two presidential elections. Trump is not the man needed for this country and Cruz has the leadership and intelligence to get us back on the righteous path.

Nobody knows what Cruz's plan even is. His best hope is that people assume his plan's are the same as Trump's.

“Couldn’t believe it, myself— But, I put up the thread today about Cruz disagreeing with Trump.. Someone else put it in breaking news - 400+posts, say 95% bashing Ted. Should check out the first 10 posts on the thread— one name will floor you.”

Scary is the only word that comes to mind. I am amazed that so many can be tricked into believing Mr. Trump’s rhetoric. Even otherwise long time posters to Free Republic. It breaks my heart that otherwise great folks can be so very gullible.

It would probably help if the anti-Trump folks stopped acting like Ron Paul supporters-- but for their guy Cruz. The total denial most Cruz bots have for the flaws in their own candidate doesn't give your whining much legitimacy. If you want to say that Trump is so awful, it's not wise to then take the position that Cruz is "pure," "consistent" and "true" to "conservative principles." It's too easy to disprove.

It was a crazy time in the past. I remember the days when FR were telling gore to get out of Chaneys house. Lol. It was great then one day, and it’s different for everyone, you wake up and realize there is a knife in your back and hands in your pocket. Both done by the GOPe that we were fighting for. We got used, abused and told t F’k off when we demanded conservative leadership. So down with the uniparty. Be proud, be strong and never compromise the principals you Hold dear. Call out those who will destroy, sell or neglect the God given liberty we have.

Oh, yes. I was in your corner. As a big Bush supporter, even taking to the streets during the recount, the disappointment in his presidency was hard to handle. The spending—oy! Irag—oy! Although I admit I was slow to figure he was letting us down.

insurmountable 40% vote ceiling

Once again wishful thinking on your part. The latest PPP poll has Trump with a favorability of 63%. Trump is way ahead in every primary state. It will be over by 3/5/16.

So many eager for a Cruz/Trump or Trump/Cruz ticket!

With respect ... that's a pretty scenario -- but here in "Realville," as Rush likes to say, we have to choose one. Weighing variations of how we could have both in a fantasy is only a comforting distraction from the difficult and critical task at hand: We have to chose ONE.

Actually who the hell knows what Trump’s plans are because there is no love for the American people in him no more than Obama.

As a big Bush supporter, even taking to the streets during the recount, the disappointment in his presidency was hard to handle.

Wow. You said it. I loved and had faith in Dubya, and he came close to downright betrayal. In his way, Dubya was the last straw for me.

I am also floored at how many people who should know better are enamored of Trump. Maybe it's because I haven't participated in television for the vast majority of my adult life, and I'm sneakin' up on 60. People whose lives are daily nourished with TV culture I guess totally accept Trump as he has been marketed in terms of skills, specialties, and talents. They think I'm crazy for pointing out he's only famous because he pursued celebrityhood.

From their many long years of TV anchorage as a frame of reference, they think he's famous because he is so "good" at what he does, and his brand image on TV is of a brilliant businessman and communicator, persuader, negotiator, a pop figure that articulates the anger and frustration of people in impatient language, that of course he's the logical choice for President!

And I am standing with my jaw dropped in ... dismay.

People supposedly wary of the MSM are not even aware of the ways in which it controls them. I truly urge every person in America, just try an experiment, and go without TV for one year. For entertainment, read a book or watch a movie. Yes, it can be done, and the doer will still be alive at the end of it. For me, Trump is just evidence of the sheer power of TV.

Oh well. I count my blessings (they are legion) and know the Lord is in charge!

Interesting remarks Finny. Trump is a producer. He has built many wonderful things for individuals to enjoy. Politicians are parasites. They have built this -

http://www.usdebtclock.org

and they will keep taking and forcing, and taking and forcing, and taking and forcing, etc., etc., much like every government throughout history.

Trump doesn’t need the money or my money. Money is the lifeblood of parasites - er politicians. They take it by force.

I have watched the least amount of TV of any person I know. We didn’t have one in our house until I was 7 (1957). There was only 1 house on our block (that I know) that had a TV. I haven’t watched TV in 4-5 years. Most of my adult life I worked. I worked a lot. Most of the time a full-time and a part-time job. Some years a full-time and 2 or 3 part time jobs. I still work (but the least I have ever worked) - only a full-time job. I wouldn’t watch TV even if Donald Trump was on. It does not interest me.

As for a choice between Cruz and Trump - I’ll take Trump.

That's just the "Waaa Waaa, my cult leader Ted Cruz is losing" perspective. When you whining babies point your amazing, powerful discernment abilities towards him, you might get a better perspective.

The GOPe/Left hates Trump because they can't control him.

They fear Cruz because he is a strict Constitutionalist (understands it in a way that few others do) and a top flight lawyer.

IMO-Ted Cruz is the number one target of the GOPe/left because they are buried up to their eyeballs in massive corruption.

Cruz is the biggest threat to their back-room deals and bank accounts.

They will do anything to get him out of the race because he will expose them .

Well said.

As far as tv, I did not make a conscious decision to stop, I just couldn’t stand the noise any more. In January I sold my business, prior to that, I came home exhausted and turned it on to escape, although I had not watched tv news since the 2012 election. It’s very peaceful without it. I do a lot more meditating, which is offset by the time I spend worked up about current events. :)

First, amassing wealth is a very different thing than being a producer. He "produces" deals that in turn produce big impressive buildings that look really nice in photos and that, when they are hotels, employ a lot of people; when they are office towers, they either sit empty or provide office space for other producers.

Either way, photos and footage of those gorgeous buildings makes great media imagery, a lot better than a bunch of discount tire outlets, a "What'sApp" smart phone ap, or Amazon, although the brilliant minds behind all of those things are measurably MUCH smarter than Trump judging by Trump's own gage of wealth in billions, the confirmation of one's skill in "the art of the deal."

In comparison to the guys who really know how to do it, Trump is third-rate. The difference is that he's got a media persona and a bunch of inspirational books to make America think he's "at the top." In truth, he's fairly well down on the list.

According to the MSM brand image, Trump "has built many many wonderful things for individuals to enjoy." In truth of fact, as of 2011, he had declared corporate bankruptcy four times. That means some creditors likely went unpaid, jobs were likely lost -- some "producer."

You can try to change the subject to the flaws of politicians, but it is only avoidance tactic. Stick to the subject of the myth that Trump is "brilliant in business and that's why he's famous."

If you want to change the subject and look at flaws of politicians, then look at your own politician Trump and see how he has YUGELY exaggerated his net worth. Among other things, the Forbes' article linked observes is that Trump ... also consistently pushes for a higher net worth -- especially when it comes to the value of his personal brand."

A "producer" of brand images where the image alone is worth billions?

Trump is famous, and people think he's a "producer," because Trump for 10 years crafted that brand image for himself via the MSM. In point of fact, he is third-rate in the context of America's entrepreneur billionaires, and in his specific realm of real estate mogul billionaires, he is also third-rate. But HE is the only one among them who has established a celebrity presence on TV and written self-help inspiration books on how to amass wealth.

Admitting the truth is very difficult for many, and that truth is that the only reason people think Donald Trump is a great businessman, is because he marketed himself that way. If he was famous because of his great business acumen, then the real estate moguls who out-produce him as much as quadruple, would be four times as famous. But you have never heard of them. They don't have the "brand" image that Trump does ... yet they're worth a LOT more than he is.

How could they have accomplished so much more without the brand image that Trump values so highly in terms of his own success?

Trump is a creating and creature of the MSM, and has a documented 26-year history of leaning left-moderate in politics and has switched political parties thrice during that time.

Truth is truth. Look it in the eye and stop changing the subject.

“Third rate” Trump has a lot to lose putting his fame, his fortune, his sacred honor on the line, especially angering the opposition party, his own party, the media, foreign and domestic enemies - and many FReepers.

I’ll still take Trump. I still like Cruz. After those 2, the rest in both parties are a bunch of “also rans” in this horse race. This mess isn’t going to be addressed or fixed by the rest of the go-along to get-along club members.

Thanks for your response, Finny.
