Why Donald Trump’s big advantage among those without college degrees is important
The Washington Post ^ | December 4,2015 | Philip Bump

Posted on 12/05/2015 7:29:16 AM PST by Hojczyk

On Friday, CNN/ORC released new poll data showing Donald Trump with his biggest lead in their 2016 polling -- which also gave him his highest polling average since he joined the race.

One big reason for that is that Trump has a massive advantage among those who don't have a college degree, as we noted in a graph

We can look at this as a microcosm of the 2016 election on the whole. Trump has consolidated a base of support; the establishment is fractured in its support for someone to stand up to him. This isn't a clean analogy, but it maps loosely. More than 40 percent of those without a degree in the CNN/ORC poll back Trump. Those with a degree can't make up their minds.

If that holds, or if Trump's grip on those without a degree strengthens, it's not good news for those hoping he's not the nominee. In 2012, turnout by those with or without a degree varied by state. In Iowa, 52 percent of Republican caucus-goers had college degrees, according to exit polling; in South Carolina, 47 percent did. The average across 20 states was about half-and-half. Thirteen states, though, had more people without college degrees turn out to vote than those with a degree.

He’s a great person, brilliant in many ways. But a new dealer all the way. Yay, for big government. Argued with me that a comma determined the real meaning of the 2nd amendment.

On the few occasions that I convince him on a point, two weeks later he reverts back and never realizes that he did agree with me.

Absolutely flabbergasting!

Philip Bump of the Washington Post needs to do the same nose-in-the-air bullsh*t analysis for Hillary's supporters. Black inner city ‘communities’ are known for their college educated intellectuals... right?

Let's ‘mock’ equally Philip...or are YOU Philip a little insecure about your ‘bonafides’?

Come on Philip Bump - make an effort to show a little class...

“Those with a degree can’t decide.”

Powerful statement. Applies to much in America today.

Those with a degree were indoctrinated with unnatural dogma (socialism, godlessness, queerness, false self-esteem, etc.), against natural law, human nature, morality and plain d common sense. They now suffer with cognitive dissonance, just can’t decide.

"breakdown of the population that has a college degree?"

Why would that be important?

A college degree is no indicator of a person's knowledge or wisdom.

This is just another in the countless attempts to divide the American people into tribes. The only people that benefit from that sh!t are the publicos.

Someone should do a similar study and report on who those with DD214s support.

****************************************************************

Much more relevant, in this case, than a degree.

“Why Donald Trump’s big advantage among those without college degrees is important”

Because that means he’s reaching people the Republicans struggle to reach - which are people that look at themselves as “little guys”, as opposed to upper middle class and beyond, which was traditionally the voting base of Republicans.

So Trump is already solidifying support OUTSIDE of traditional Republican circles...the next step is to nail down the base, which can be done with Cruz on the ticket.

At that point it becomes a LANDSLIDE.

What they really mean is white working class people and, even better, union members.

I don’t have a college degree. I supervise a laboratory for a multi-billion dollar global pharmaceutical company. I’ll be voting for Ted Cruz.

I have a college degree and 2 graduate degrees. I cringe at some of the Donald’s remarks and his relative lack of knowledge about issues. However, I still believe he can do the most adequate job of getting this country back for the people! The people! Love the intellectualism of Cruz, but Donald touches the heart of the people.

Because people with jobs or are looking for jobs, like Trump because he promises to bring jobs back to the United States. Even if you have a job, this is a positive because it would tighten the labor market and cause wages to rise. (A concept that liberals seem to not comprehend)

And all the labor/skill unions would benefit from this as well. Who is going to build and set up the new factories? Retool the old ones? Skilled labor

Even the degree holders benefit from this as well, these new factories are going to need engineers, architects, accountants, project managers, plant managers, etc as well

hmm. What instance can he point to in which big government solved a problem instead of made it worse?

or if it did solve a problem, what was the cost compared to private industry solving it?

we all have one in the family. Mine is my aunt Madelena.

Generous to a fault but i want to strangle her when she cheers for obama!!!!

A lot of what makes a man a good President is his ability to make decisions, not waffle around while Rome burns as was Jimmy Carter’s wont.

Also, it is not reasonable to expect one person to know everything. A good leader knows how to choose those who know what he needs to know and he delegates to them. Liberals are top down micro managers and it shows in a very negative way.

So, as regards Trump, if he knows the right people to stock his administration, if he knows how to delegate when appropriate, then his lack of knowledge at times will be corrected and not an issue.

My late father, a 3 war US Marine officer said to me many times that you don’t need to know everything, you need to know those who do. Also he was fond of saying that he would take a man of average intelligence with common sense and leadership ability for President anytime over an extremely smart man.

Too funny ,the majority of the college graduates I know are challenged by what i consider simple common sense task’s. The degree’s qualify them to push paper with a guide book of regulations to dictate the form #’s. I was always interested in foolish things such as constuction , mechanic’s , waterproofing , electrical , plumbing , computer’s....self taught or on the job training (thought it was wise to get paid to learn trades)...I have never called a for a serviceman for any of the mentioned interest’s in all of the home’s I have been in ...also I have been self-employed for over two decades and I currently build and install complete contained hydro-electric generation systems for private homes and small businesses ....I had been striving to do this for over 25 years ...I stuck to it and now I love what i do and get compensated very well.....college is a racket and nothing more than an indoctrination against independence and self-reliance , and in the process they rape the public funds while unfairly avoiding taxation to extremes that would offend most if they ever paid close attention ...so in closing for this liberal puke with his “degree” to insinuate that a college degree is a necessity in order to choose a President should look at sotoreo’s base...

“Somehow they always manage to overlook Trump’s support among those of us with Ph.Ds.”

Two degrees here in computer science, patents to my name, internationally recognized expert on computer networking before I retired.

Oh, and a MAJOR Trump supporter. As is a number of the college-educated folks I know. And the support here in Colorado includes all different political stripes.

Thinking people are fed up and realize this country has run off the rails and they’re starting to realize something and someone completely different and completely non-beholden to the Uniparty is needed to save us from the abyss that obama is trying to shove us into.
