It is a moral outrage and a national disgrace that civilians can legally purchase weapons designed specifically to kill people with brutal speed and efficiency. These are weapons of war, barely modified and deliberately marketed as tools of macho vigilantism and even insurrection. America's elected leaders offer prayers for gun victims and then, callously and without fear of consequence, reject the most basic restrictions on weapons of mass killing, as they did on Thursday. They distract us with arguments about the word terrorism. Let's be clear: These spree killings are all, in their own ways, acts of terrorism.

Certain kinds of weapons, like the slightly modified combat rifles used in California, and certain kinds of ammunition, must be outlawed for civilian ownership. It is possible to define those guns in a clear and effective way and, yes, it would require Americans who own those kinds of weapons to give them up for the good of their fellow citizens.

If the NYTs wants to ban Bill of Rights to prevent these kinds of attacks, far more effective would be to ban the first amendment right to be Muslim in America. After all, no right should exist without reasonable regulation, I believe was their logic.
I’d bet at this moment that it wouldn’t be wise to take a national poll on whether banning Muslims is a reasonable regulation on the first amendment. My guess is the NYTs would be shocked, shocked I’d say, to find how just how un-PC the American public truly is.

Last I’d heard, 15 percent of the American population are licenced concealed carriers. Less than 1/10th of one percent of them break the law. Far less than the percentage of law enforcement personnel that break the law.

Note the lead “mind-shaping” assumption that guns are specifically designed to kill people-—not to defend a person’s life and that of his loved ones against evil-intentioned humans-—but only to kill. This one-sided assumption derives from a mind not only in denial of its personal proclivity toward evil in myriad forms but ready to project its’ own evil outward onto inanimate guns, social constructions, private property, fossil fuels, and other people (scapegoats).
