The planet is on the edge of catastrophic climate change, a warming of the globe that is already creating a mind-boggling array of human suffering. The United States is leading an international effort to fix the problem, but no nation holds more historical responsibility for creating it.
We're the top cause of global warming, the all-time leading source of the pollution that traps heat and drives extreme weather. So, as world leaders gather in Paris in hopes of striking a historic deal to curb that pollution, a large and uncomfortable question is bubbling up: Should the United States pay for the climate-related damage it's already caused - and will cause in the future?
Dozens of small, low-lying island nations think so, and on Tuesday they made their case to a sympathetic - but ultimately unmoved President Obama. His administration has fought hard against "loss and damage" payouts, as they're known in the parlance of the United Nations, viewing them as a kind of unlimited liability for bad weather.

What is “nothing,” Alex?
Then there is the old saying that "It's the first effect of not believing in God that you lose your common sense."
The extortionists should get paid harmoniously..
This tool obviously didn’t see the video of smog-filled Beijing that was on the news the other day.
Even Obama knows reparations to the Third World would sink a climate change deal.
Let’s hope the greed of the latter sinks it of its own accord.
The first sentence in this article was probably the best example of hysterical drama-queen bullshit I’ve ever read.
Tony Dokoupil is the author of “The Last Pirate.” About his prolific drug-dealer father. In looking at this model photo headshots it looks like he could be writing an auto-bio sequel called “The last Butt Pirate.”
I will do you one better. How about we give the rest of the world the one gift the media thinks is the “greatest”, the one and only Barack Husein Obama. One condition, he can never set foot in the US again.
The only thing driving “extreme weather” is the media.
I wonder if terrorism in the US will overshadow global warming politics? Really, that might be the only thing that keeps American tax payers from being raped.
I almost drove off the road laughing so hard at a comment on that very subject from one of the characters on Don Imus’ radio show. He pointed out that the air in the U.S. is very clean, while Beijing “looks like the inside of Willie Nelson’s bus.” LOL.
Recall when the USSR dissentegrated several European communist parties asked what to do.
Join the environmental movement was the answer.
All about redistribution of wealth and people like Al Gore as middleman.
The goal is to get the global power structure in place, not to fix the environment. If Obama were to sign off on this, it could threaten getting the global power structure in place. Therefore, he must oppose it. Once the power structure is in place, locked in and and fully unaccountable, they will drop all pretext about global warming etc and get on the doing the real work of global economic, political, and cultural control.
But subtract it from our very real cost for liberating the world twice.
I know, right? I could barely believe someone wrote that and believes it.
Yeah, I figured if that man (or whatever) was turning down reparations for globull warming, he must be planning something even more dastardly. And then pay them down the road. Like @ss marriage.
Plus they have been literally saying this for the past decade “the planet is on the edge of no return”...Al Gore said it 10 years ago in 2006 and Rush has been keeping count ever since. I believe he has 60 days to go.......
