Ted Cruz cited this research when he said most violent criminals are Democrats. Now the researchers say heâs wrong.
In the wake of last weekâs shooting at a Planned Parenthood facility in Colorado Springs, Colorado, Sen. Ted Cruz on Monday claimed that the âoverwhelming majority of violent criminals are Democrats.â When asked for evidence, the senatorâs campaign cited a paper we published in 2014, in which we present data on the party affiliation of ex-felons in three states.
The paper Cruz cited is one in a series of papers in which we have combined public records â from departments of corrections, state courts, and secretaries of state â to directly measure ex-felonsâ party registration and turnout history. But our research does not support Cruzâs claim.

Most academic papers of late need to be subjected to long walk, short pier review.....
Well, let’s take a look at how many Federally elected Democrats vs. how many Federally elected Republicans during the past 30 years have been judged guilty of a crime.
40 % D- 16% R in their own table— that’s not overwhelming; if it were a Super Bowl score, you’d say the D’s squeaked by... not.
The faculty of almost all dumbo departments (e.g. Non-STEM) is liberal.
As such, one can always depend upon them to provide the pc answer, and resort to their college’s Ministry of Truth should changes be required in what they have written.
They will produce what their govt masters want.
Else, how could they earn a living? There are not enough Starbucks to support them.
The naysayers ‘fact checking’ for this article neglect to acknowledge that the shooter was registered as an independent, not a Republican.
Exactly. The facts support Cruz’ statement 100%. Silly facts. They always get in the way.
Cruz is absolutely right, but the authors are under pressure from the PC crowd.
Where I work, we compile data on crime victims and perpetrators. Conveniently, Race of perpetrators is limited to either African American, Asian, or Caucasian. Hispanic/Latino is not an option. For victims, there are a dozen or so options. But for perpetrators, only three.
how does that make sense? Agenda anyone?
Well I guess Ted Cruz just lost the non-violent, ex-felon vote.
It also needs to be asked what percentage of other and/or independent voting felons vote Democrat versus Republican despite registering as other or independent?
Their own stats support Cruz, yet they deny it, with BS arguments.
This attack surprises me... I expected the Left to ignore this story outright. But this will be MUCH easier to defend than, say, Trump’s celebrating Muslims claim. They simply can’t win this one...or come close.
I use academic papers every morning.
Interesting. How are comparisons made as to white on black crime when white could include 4 or 5 other races? Don’t you love statistics? I consider it white collar crime. LOL
Then these two idiots need to return the money to the agency that funded their “research.”
Cruz was only wrong in under stating the number of felons involved. The “ex” part is wrong. Either you have been convicted of a felony or you have not been convicted of a felony; being in prison or not does not change that. A University of Minnesota study done in the 1990s showed the ratio of Democrats to Republicans in prison was 87/13! Common sense tells us this. The 13% were lawyers caught stealing trust funds. The 87% were converts to Islam.
Either that or they noted the implications and decided to ignore that part of the "research" and not "come to that ugly conclusion".
