Turkey's Erdogan warns Russia not to 'play with fire'

ISTANBUL

Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan warned Russia not to "play with fire" on Friday, but added he did not want to harm relations with Moscow, comments that look more likely to inflame than quell the dispute over a downed Russian bomber this week.

Relations between the former Cold War antagonists are at their worst in recent memory after Turkey shot down the jet near the Syrian border on Monday. Russia has threatened economic retaliation against Ankara, which Erdogan has dismissed as "emotional" and "unfitting".

"We very sincerely recommend to Russia not to play with fire," Erdogan told supporters during a speech in Bayburt, in northeast Turkey. "We really attach a lot of importance to our relations with Russia... We don't want these relations to suffer harm in any way."

I wish that Putin would spend more time talking about the loss of these pilots. It must be devastating for the families. However, Putin actually seems more upset that Turkey stuck a pin in his macho routine. Putin could use a bit more humility. He is dealing with very complicated problems.

Your comment indicates to me that you may not have read much Russian history. Expecting Putin to behave like a modern feminized American politician is myopic.

“RT 5 minutes ago
Attack on Su-24 was intentional and planned in advance - Russia Air Force chief on.rt.com/6xqb “

Which means the opposite is true.

Yes, maybe he will tell us when he plans to turn on his EW systems and blank out Northern Syria and probably southern Turkey to non authorized flights

Erdogan has gone nucking futs & thinks he’s Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent.

Poking a nation with eleven time zones & swarms of nukes & led by a cold eyed dictator just doesn’t seem real smart, no how.

“Putin was cooperating with the West when his military shared the target and flight route of those Fencers - and look what he got.

1. Up to the point of the Russian airliner going down, Russia was not cooperating in going after ISIS, only attacking anti Assad targets.

2. RT reports regarding the shared flight routes are incorrect. Russia gave no flight info stating they would violate Turkish airspace, which they did. RT is as reliable as Cold War Pravda and Tass. They report Putins line of BS or they get poisoned.

I think I am watching what is actually happening in the world. I recognize that some people who saw Putin running around with his shirt off believed that Putin must be some kind of superman who did not have to observe any realities in this world. I recognize that some of them are now disappointed and shocked to see a country like Turkey puncture that balloon.

If your reading of history is that Russia has dominated the USA, your reading differs from mine. Let us hope that Putin does intend to be more cooperative. ISIS will be defeated, but healthy relations with Russia will be good for everyone. Who knows, maybe even Russia's ally Iran will be forced to come around someday.

You have not been following the war very closely
When Russia took on Al Nusra front early in the war, look up who that is
Also any group with an islamic name- check out their alliances and goals

As the war moved east they took on more and more ISIS
Check out what is happening now in Aleppo, Raqqa, and Palmyra

Don’t rely on pentagon briefings for your information

Sicial media is waaay out in front of the propagandists from both sides but ours is definitely the weakest and most agenda driven

Putin doesn’t play with fire. Radioactive polonium occasionally... but not fire.

I am going to disagree here. Obama would be more likely to take the call from a muzzie pal.

Turkey is a muzzie nation. They cannot be trusted. I wouldn’t risk one US soldier in their behalf — not one.

“Also any group with an islamic name- check out their alliances and goals”

Islamic Republic of Iran - chief ally - Russia
...sells nuclear and advanced ballistic missile technology to Islamic Republic of Iran.

Perhaps you aren’t following close enough.

Hmmm... a tad late, I'm thinking.
