The cost of electricity for Colorado residents skyrocketed 63 percent between 2001 and 2014, far outpacing median income in the state at just 24 percent over the same time period
...
Retail residential electricity rates increased from 7.47 cents per kilowatthour in 2001 to 12.18 cents per kilowatthour by 2014, a 63.1 percent hike. Coloradans median income, however, went up just 24.1 percent, from $49,397 to $61,303. Median income in Colorado actually declined between 2008 and 2012.
...
Not to mention the state's many business owners, including small business owners, who face the same hikes in energy costs that could force decisions like layoffs or relocation to nearby states, where energy costs are lower. This reduces job growth and harms the state's economy twice, with increased business costs passed on to consumersâthe same ratepayers who already are paying more at the meter.
Colorado is an outlier in front of an unfortunate nationwide trend. According to federal data, average U.S. electricity prices in 2016 are projected to be about 4.5 percent greater than 2013 levels
...
The saddest part of all is that it is as yet uncertain whether any of Colorado's rateshock would help stave off the worst of the Obama administration's climate initiative, were that regulation to survive judicial review. That means that it could get much worse

“That should teach people to not vote democrat”
You always hope for this, but they always disappoint, being very slow to learn.
Only because of the PTC, aka a government subsidy at the expense of the taxpayer.
My apologies, and sympathy to both of you. You did your best.
ELECTRICITY RATES
NECESSARILY SKYROCKETING
PING!
53% to 44%, Obama over McMoron in 2008 in Colorado.
Man, we’ve had some really horrible candidates.
lol my SIL just bought an “electric” car.... she’s a nice woman but she and my bro are Boulder looney libs.
Colorado Springs was smart enough to keep running their multi-megawatt Drake coal plant until 2035 overcoming the Dimbulbs and Eco-greenies who don’t know or care.
When Trump becomes president, they may have the option if it is not too late to drop the expensive scrubbers and recoup the money.
A little over 12 cents per KWH is lower than most states in US.
What seems to be the problem in Colorado? Stop spending on marijuana!
How can this be with all the legal pot, illegal mexicans and muslims obamas shipped in?
It’s outrageous.
Electricity should be really inexpensive. Only under a failing reckless government and leadership could this occur.
They always find a reason to raise rates no matter what.
Cut back, rates are raised because you are using less.
Stay the same, raise rates for fixing current stuff and/or planning for future growth.
Use more, rates raised because you are using more.
Funny how that works.
Be sure and thank mr obama next time you pay your bill.
Same reason govt spending never goes down.
I voted against obama and against all that support his side twice.
I never asked for this.
Wind is not the only energy sector in the US that receives subsidies.
And none should receive subsidies.
My electricity bill here in the western suburbs of Chicago went up $40 more per month starting a couple of months ago.
Nothing is ever really free, I would look closely at how the bill is being paid. Sounds like a dysfunctional market, enjoy it while you can because the electrical fairy may not stick around very long.
“Coloradans who voted for Democrats got what they paid for and have no right to complain.”
Seems like every other car here has California or New York tags on it. The progressives are drawn here like flies.
